Default Wanted: Working Stock Subaru Radio, any

Edit: Needs to be 1994 or earlier...

Rachel's is toast.

Got one collecting dust somewhere? Single or double DIN... Anything with factory Subaru connectors.

Thanks.

I have the radio from my 97 outback. It even has a tape player and some spiders.

If she wants an awesome STi Limited unit with aux input and ability to play MP3 discs, I will sell it pretty cheap.

Crap, thought it was the same, but apparently 1994- is different. (9 pin + 7 pin)

I bet I know someone with a late model Subaru who is not going to put a stereo in his car and could supply a pigtail.

Dean, you can pick up 2 adapter harnesses pretty cheap and splice them together to put a newer radio in. I did it on my Mom's 90 Legacy with a 05 six disc. You need a male for the newer radio and a female for the older vehicle.

I have the stock radio from my RS if you need it. I was told it works, but I have not tested it as it came with an aftermarket stereo.

I have no interest at the moment in buying and splicing harnesses to put a radio in a 22 year old car. Was really hoping to just drop something in.

I think finding a 22 year old stereo is going to be more effort than splicing 2 or 3 wires to make a newer stereo work.

Exactly. Spend $15 or so on the harnesses and you've got a much better selection to pick from. Plus if you put an older stereo in who knows how long it will last.

FINE, Kevin is going to provide the late model harness, and I will pick up an old style reverse on eBay.

I think you need it the other way around. The newer male (reverse) harness and the older female harness.

Depends on what you call male? The plastic housing, or the pins? No comment necessary Juice...

The harness plastic goes inside the plastic on the radio, but the conducting pins are on the radio side and holes are on the harness side. So, going by plastic...

'90 Legacy harness (M) - (F) '87-'94 reverse harness - 95+ harness (M) - (F) '95+ radio

Connectors are always gendered by the pins, not the housing.

I've always seen it described as the male harness is the one on the factory pigtail. Also known as the reverse harness when buying an aftermarket replacement.

Like this...

Then you splice it to this...
