This might not be the correct thread to post this in, but i wanted to say hello to you all.

I recently purchased my first new car, an '08 WRX, and was wondering when your next meeting was so i could come and say hi and introduce myself. I live in Minden but work in Tahoe, and let me tell you, the car community down here in Minden is lacking at best.

Hope to hear from you soon...and if there is an appropriate thread to fully introduce myself, could someone please point me in the right direction?

100_Percent_Juice 2007-09-30 11:12 AM

Welcome to SECCS. I think your the first 08 to post here. Meets are on thursdays at like 7ish.

Wow, a new member that uses proper grammar! Amazing, and welcome.

MPREZIV 2007-09-30 11:57 AM

Welcome to the club!

A lot of members introduce themselves with an entirely new thread, but this is just as good a place as any!

wrxkidid 2007-09-30 03:42 PM

welcome man.

hehe, yeah......product of a perfect English SAT score and a desire once upon a time to be a journalist. right now i'll take anything with a decent sized paycheck, which dealing blackjack provides.

wrxkidid 2007-09-30 10:20 PM

you should come test that 08 out at the AutoX this weekend.

cody 2007-10-01 12:29 PM

Welcome Badrover. This your first Scooby?

I saw my first 08 WRX in person yesterday. It was a WRB sedan and the occupants all waved at me. :D

Do you drive the new silver wrx through Minden?? I see a silver 08 WRX all the time when i leave work.

M3n2c3 2007-10-01 05:22 PM

Sam and Max FTW, badrover. Welcome. :)

Oh, and I'll actually be at the meet this week, for all who care :P

wrxkidid 2007-10-01 05:32 PM

Oh snaps.

M3n2c3 2007-10-01 05:42 PM

Yeah, I think I've only been to two or three in the last year. Apparently autocross isn't the only thing babies are ruining.

wrxkidid 2007-10-01 05:44 PM

Are you calling me a baby?

Looks like I'm gonna have to come down for this one! I don't think I'd even recognise you anymore!

yeah...that would be me....I get to drive Kingsbury Grade 4-5 times a week to go to work. It really is a fun drive and a great way to get to know a car

Good way to wear out your tires too. I used to make that drive in my STi, and it killed my tires pretty quick.

Yeah when I got my STi I had classes up in South Lake and I had to drive it twice a week in the snow!!!

JonnydaJibba 2007-10-02 08:27 AM

Dang I think I'll have to miss the Office this week.

this may be true, but this is my first Subaru...my previous car was a '93 Toyota MR2, so the handling is quite different in this big Scoobie (and yes, big is the term i use because the MR2 was so damn small) so i need to get to know it better...if that costs me a set of tires, meh...no biggie. There are a lot more expensive things to wear out on a car than tires.

NevadaSTi 2007-10-02 09:55 AM

That being said, when I finally meet you face to face, I will tell you my best time coming down that road. From the top of Daggett Pass to the Stop sign.

Oh yeah, one more thing. The worst I ever did going up that hill at 3am in the morning, was I used up about 5/8ths of a tank of gas. LOL.

Kevin M 2007-10-02 10:03 AM

Personally I recommend not trying to match times of an STi in a WRX on RE92s. ;)

NevadaSTi 2007-10-02 11:00 AM

True, my bad.

M3n2c3 2007-10-02 12:41 PM

RE92s will last a good while as long as they're not attached to the car when it goes flying off the road.

badrover 2007-10-02 07:58 PM

i honestly dont know what my best time is. Every time i drive home from work, there is always someone on the road all freaked out about the hairpin and doing about 20 mph through it. its a bit frustrating, but my downhills are definitely faster than my uphills. I think i am going to start lightening the car up for faster downhills.

wrxkidid 2007-10-02 09:07 PM

faster uphill is much easier on your tires and brakes...but then again it sounds like you really dont care.

also much safer IMO because you have gravity helping you slow down but then again I don't like to go balls out on roads like that.

badrover 2007-10-03 01:12 AM

i think i have driven on that road more than any other in my life, whether it was riding with a family member or driving it myself. By no means am i a master of it per se, but i feel comfortable going fast either uphill or downhill on that road. but you are right, and i have been thinking about it. Uphill would probably be the best choice for this car. The downhill suited the MR2 much more honestly because it was already lightweight and the weight balance of the car was such that it did not put as much stress on the front brakes as the WRX does.

NevadaSTi 2007-10-03 07:56 AM

Here is another word of advice, those two >25mph turns on the Basin side are not doable at 60mph. Even in my STi. LOL!!!!!

yeah i know....i tried once. little too hairy for my tastes. Fastest i like to go through those turns is about 40.

JonnydaJibba 2007-10-03 12:29 PM

street racers.

M3n2c3 2007-10-03 08:10 PM

The obvious safety issues aside (or perhaps due to them), I don't know if a public forum is a good place to discuss something like this. . .

badrover 2007-10-04 12:12 AM

Aye. My apologies.

cody 2007-10-04 09:11 AM

I'm planning on going tonight. People still meet in the parking lot beforehand?
