thats a fun car^^
to me that looks pretty illegal for this thread's rules, but by defenition its sound. i meant i was inside tire slightly over a rumble strip.

so whats our next task? im about to have some time to kill, and i want to win so i can make a nurburgring challenge! :D

outferno 2006-03-08 03:08 PM

I've been using harder tires for the rear and softer tires for the front, I seem to drive better that way. I'm not sure why.

rallytheshytoutofwrx 2006-03-08 03:13 PM

might promote oversteer?

it kinda sucks not being able to adjust suspension...i can't believe a lot of my friends play without ever touching the TCS, gear ratios or suspension settings...i have (had) a CSL that if i changed the camber a half degree i would notice...

rallytheshytoutofwrx 2006-03-08 03:13 PM

charlie, im posting this only to tie you in posts! :P

outferno 2006-03-08 03:15 PM

It does promote oversteer, but at the same time, it destroys ability to drift since the front tires will grip a lot more - it's kind of weird and destroys game physics vs real life physics. I could see having a step harder tires on the rears in real life may possibly make you do donuts all day - but this is all theoretical. Anybody done this in real life that can chime in?

Charlie

We're in a bit of a quandry since Bemani was the only one to post a pic, and he won the challenge. The rules state that you cannot win your own challenge. You win, but you can't make the rules. So since Bemani beat his own challenge, the 2nd place person should make the rules. Well that would be Gary if he'd just post a pic, but he hasn't. I'd fell pretty wierd choosing the next challenge with so many people having better times than me, but if nobody posts a pic of their faster time by 9 or so this evening, I guess I'll make the next challenge. :?:

The only exception is when jumping the car. Then it's okay to leave the track, but you must still maintain at least two wheel "over" the prepared surface, even if they're not actually touching the track.

For example, check out my turn 4 in this lap: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car%20P...2_1-13-393.wmv

That's about as close as you can cut it.

You know, I'm going to guess that for the smallest fraction of a moment, you had 3 wheels on the grass...right before you reached the rumble strip.

GarySheehan 2006-03-08 04:11 PM

I'll see if I can get a picture up tonight.

Cool. I think if this happens again, we should just let the winner make a new challenge, even if they made the challenge they just won.

Actually, the picture is a little deceiving as far as the direction of movement of the car. Watch the external camera video I posted of the 1st 5 challenges. The picture is actually from the point where I have the least amount of contact w/ the track.

With regards to picking the challenges... I would vote that the next time the next person isn't readily obvious or available to pick the challenge, Cody should get to make the call since he started the thread. As long as he doesn't pick a rally challenge. :P

If you say so. :P I'll have to check that video. Got a link?

As posted earlier in the thread:

http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car%20P...CS_TT1-TT5.wmv

It's nearly 100MB in size. The particular spot is at about 1'47 into the movie. However, it's not as easy to see there as I thought it was... I was thinking of this clip from a lap that turned out not to be my best, so I never bothered to post a link to it in this thread. I had cut a lot of the curb, and because of the sliding of the car it really looks from the in-car like I cut too much, so I recorded and slowed down that footage to prove I was on the curb.

Anyway, back on challenge 2, I did review my Motegi lap from about 30 camera angles to make sure I was within the rules. I was actually pretty pissed that it was so close because cutting that corner so severly doesn't really help your times as it unsettles the car and prevents you from accelerating at full potential. I just happened to turn in a split second too soon on that lap and ended up eating a lot of dirt. :(

rallytheshytoutofwrx 2006-03-08 06:52 PM

hmm... i think we should freak out more about the grass issue..
charlie- i guess having sticky front tires would mess everything up. in endurance races i would sometimes put a harder compound in the rear so that the rear tires that spin a lot (depending on car) would have longer traction life that matches a softer compund front..but in real life, especially for drifting, it wouldnt work well all the time..

i got a 1.37 last time..

so do we have a new challenge anyone?

cody 2006-03-08 09:11 PM

Marty, if you have a better time than 1’37.499, post the pic and you can make the next challenge.

bemani 2006-03-08 09:15 PM

I say cody you should just pick the next track and car like what Scott suggested. Except I don't care if you choose a gravel track :p

cody 2006-03-08 09:25 PM

Ha, well I think you should pick. Heads or tails?

bemani 2006-03-08 09:27 PM

heads!

cody 2006-03-08 09:28 PM

Heads, you make the next challenge. :)

bemani 2006-03-08 10:04 PM

lol. okay, Corvette C5 Z06, Seoul reverse. Lap times should be very close.

cody 2006-03-08 10:05 PM

I'm in as soon as Southpark is over. :)

bemani 2006-03-08 10:09 PM

dude that's a rerun. You scared me for a second there, thought I'm missing the new episode.

cody 2006-03-08 10:22 PM

Yah, I've seen them all, but it's been a while since I've seen this one. A new Drawn Together is on next though.

Other than the long straight that gets a little boring, I'm liking this Challenge. I've yet to hit the toilet bowl correctly though. I got close once, but of course, I gave it too much throttle and fish tailed coming out of it.

That sucks Charlie. A friend sold my dead PS2 on ebay for $50 (advertised as dead). Some video game places will give you ~$40 for it if you haven't cracked the seal, but I opened mine up to attempt the laser adjustment and to clean the laser.

I had to buy a new one too.

rallytheshytoutofwrx 2006-03-09 10:12 AM

okay... i skipped school b/c i only had one academic class and one study period today,... and im kinda sick (and spanish class sucks in the morning).
so i played gt4...
i have a 1.01 on seoul..

bemani 2006-03-09 11:23 AM

Yeah that's my current time too (1'01.087). Wonder if anyone can break into < 1 minute?

rallytheshytoutofwrx 2006-03-09 12:37 PM

rallytheshytoutofwrx 2006-03-10 06:52 PM

anyone else?
i know its the weekend and we all have better stuff to do, but the link to this thread keeps popping up in my email so am reminded a lot... i wish i could win one of these i have the ultimate test in mind...

bemani 2006-03-10 10:28 PM

I haven't been able to match that ... 1'01.076

sperry 2006-03-13 10:59 AM

Okay, I'm pretty burnt out on this challenge... and I haven't even been driving it much. The course is basically 2 turns, the large chicane leading onto the long straight, and the haripin leading onto the straight so long, I take a nap or eat dinner or something while driving down it. All the rest of the turns combined can make you +/- about .1s, those two turns are more like +/- .5s each.

That said, my best lap so far is a 1'00.9. So I'm more than a second off the pace. I don't know where I'm supposed to pick up that much time... just to make sure, those of you under 1 minute are doing so w/o touching the walls, right? I guess I'm just not seeing something with regards to my line.

GarySheehan 2006-03-13 12:14 PM

I haven't played at ALL! Arg! I got called in last minute to coach a driver down at California Speedway this weekend and that killed Thursday night, Friday and Saturday. Sunday was spent working on the "special secret project" and I couldn't even look twice at my PS2 :(

I doubt I'll get the chance today, either.

For some reason I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for you Gary. :P

GarySheehan 2006-03-13 01:45 PM

Well, spend two days in near freezing conditions in the rain watching everyone else around you get into racecars and maybe you can feel some sympathy for me. Actually, it was a lot of fun because my student was very attentive and we saw some marked results over the two days!
