I don't know that I'll have the time to put 1000 miles on it. Last time I built the motor, I had a week off during Xmas break to do laps around the bay area in the car.... this time I'm going to bring it back to Reno (I think) and I'll just have an hour a day or so to drive it around.... can I get away w/ 500 miles? Less? More? I don't want to screw up the motor, but the season is looming, only one month from today!

I don't have an answer for you that your going to want to hear then mate :(

Good news is the motor is going to be back with us this week, Hydra arrived already things are certainly happening.

Awesome!

I'm not surprised about the break-in time... It'll just be a challenge to find the time to drive it. As long as the weather stays decent, I should be able to pull it off... and if I have to co-drive the 1st round, I think someone might be willing to loan me a seat.

I think I might have met you before. Are you friends with Cory? If you're the person I am thinking of, I met you about a year ago when Ed was tuning Cory's car and my friends wrb bugeye. You didn't stick around for a tune that day but I remember your tires were bald as hell.

2004silversti 2009-02-28 11:24 PM

No your probably thinking of Jason. He also has a silver sti with a green. I never run bold tires but I now that jason does lol. His car is pretty damn fast.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-03-01 08:58 AM

Ah yes, I think that was jason.

Torque on an auto is a weird beast. The torque converter before lock-up can multiply the motor's output dramatically. Not to say that's not real torque at the wheels, since that's the whole point of a TC (multiplying engine output), but it pays to remember that that's not exactly what the motor's putting out.

I bet if that graph wasn't cut off at 2500 rpm the peak torque would be closer to 350!
