Weight reduction is weight reduction, and every pound counts... but when you're working with a limited budget (as most of us are), perhaps one should consider the Dollar/pound ratio of whatever one is thinking about buying. If a new hood shaves 5lbs off the front end, but costs $1500 once it's bought, painted & put on the car, that's $300/lb. I can think of quite a few better uses for that kind of money...

Yep. It's rice. I admitted it the day I put it on there. The best excuse I can come up with is that it should help reduce drag a bit. But then, so would a lip on the trunk.

Hey, at least it will do something if/when you start running track events with that car.

$1000 ...$2000...Who the fuck cares.

The STi is already fast as HELL. If I had an STi I would do absolutely nothing in regards to power mods. I have had my WRX for a year now with no power mods; only suspension and RICE. Mike, that hood is pretty killer. Personally I don't like the unfinshed look of CF except on a black car( 8) ). I would rather see you go with a wicked set of new wheels which I'm sure you will eventually but that hood is pretty cool and will defiantly stand out(get reved on even more).

ZER026D 2004-02-04 07:02 PM

I love the look of CF and every pound counts. I saved over 20 pounds with my CF trunk. I think stock with wing is 27 pounds CF no paint 5 pounds. 8) The other pluss is that I did not pay $1000 for I paid $0 for it. 8) Right now I have taken over 100 pounds off of my car with all the seats still in it. 8)

I agree with Evan, its not only light, its hella stylish :)

The hood looks nice because of the body Kit..Maybe once it's on a SAID Blue STi .. It will make a difference. Meaning because grey/Silver and black almost resemble each other the Body kit offsets the difference,But once on a WR Blue STi(WRX) it will be better matched....
Mike, To answer your question, I love the way it looks

MikeSTI 2004-02-04 10:24 PM

I guess my thing would be show and go to some degree. It's a STi and I don't want it to look like everyone else's. All I know is there are a few things I want to do to make it look a little different and changing the hood would be the first thing to do it.

Mike !!! What is the one QUOTE I live by and say it ..time and time again ....
Make it your own !!! Be original... the hell with everyone else... 8)

I agree, that hood in Blue would look really slick. I like it. Dress up mods= A O K ! If race mods are not your priority, then so be it, dress up stuff like that is bad ass too. Seriously, the first dress Up Id do to an STi, is a mild body kit, like the factory one, or even something like the one posted.

MikeSTI 2004-02-05 11:49 AM

is that a fiberglass hood?

JC 2004-02-05 12:26 PM

It's not based off the GC hood. It's based off the Cusco bugeye hood.

That fiberglass hood probably weighs twice as much as your stock hood. It looks ok put I wouldn't put it on my car.

I want those grills... Any good deals out there on them? I think they would look eally good in black...

ZER026D 2004-02-06 09:53 AM

pkzero used to make them but he Works for JIC now. I guess he does not make CF parts any more. I wonder if thats why JIC service is so crap now I read in some thread ho is shady.

Evan's info's out of date:

pkzero has been out of business for like over a year. The guy over there is Kevin (not BAN SUVS... another Kevin). Kevin got a job working for JIC USA as their tech rep, and due to the conflict of interest of being a JIC vendor and an employee, he shut down pkzero. Later, he left JIC USA because they're dolts over there (I heard some drama went down, but I have no details), but he continues to be *the source* for good info on JICs... he knows 1000x more than the JIC tech reps that replaced him. Kevin's name over at NASIOC now is "FJP", and he's a nice guy. He helped me A TON with my whole JIC issue.

The reason JIC USA's service went to crap is *because* Kevin left. Not because he worked there... he single handedly made JIC USA profitable IMO. Rumor has it, he's starting up another shop of sorts pretty soon... maybe the rebirth of pkzero?

As far as the grills... they're made by Prodrive. I don't know who sells 'em state-side, but they're *not* cheap, since they're made in England by Prodrive for the limited edition Prodrive WRX that's sold only in England.

ZER026D 2004-02-06 10:39 AM

Oh well thats all the info I could find on him cause we was the only person that was making the CF drop in WRC vent that I know of right now.

ZER026D 2004-02-06 11:07 AM

BTW Scott's JIC's are out of date.

How do you figure? The new JIC FLT-A1US's are entry level coilovers with only 5 way adjustment (in stead of my 15), no pillowballs or topmounts, and cheaper dampers that have the adjuster on the top (which usually means they're not the better inverted design).

However, they look like a wicked good deal since they'll probably be selling for under $1000. Figure $1200 for a set of JIC FLT-A1US with STi top mounts... not a bad setup! But not as good at the FLT-A2s I've already got.

AtomicLabMonkey 2004-02-06 11:52 AM

Scott's JIC's are pretty bad ass... better than mine for the Bilsteins, and mine are good.

ZER026D 2004-02-06 03:05 PM

I was just saying so cause they have new ones. Tein has 16 levels of adjusting and EDFC so the Tein's are better. Not to mention the teflon coating so they will not rust. :D :P
