Did you guys get a chence to really check out the track in terms of runoff safety, etc.? Did he talk about more pavement at all?

The track has had a *lot* of grading done all the way around the road course. Much more safe runoff. No real "gravel traps" or anything yet, but *much* better since the last time I was there. If you put all 4 off, you'd still have a chance.

I agree, that track looks 10 times better. I don't see any real trouble spots anymore . In fact, I remember looking to the side of the track on my first lap, as I got a feel for the runoff. The area that has REALLY improved, is the infield on the back side, (Where Neil V's Honda went off course), It has been smoothed out a lot, and the rocks and stuff are gone.
Looking much better out there.

Scott, you shooda taken your camera out there and filmed your laps.

How about the inside runoff near start/finish? And did Rich say anything about paving timeline for phase 2?

I thought about the camera, but we were trying to sneak in there between other sessions, and it had already taken me too long to take the crap outta my trunk and hook up my harness I didn't want to waste the time settup and aligning the camera.

As far as runoff, the *whole* track looks like it's got at least a 20' wide strip of nice smooth dirt on both sides, except for the wall at the S/F line that's got a foam layer in front of it now. At the ends of the track there's even more runoff, IIRC.

Rich implied the new paving would be ready for use this season. He also talked about adding a skid pad area that he'd potentially use for AutoX. His big issue w/ AutoX now is that it'd take up the road course's paddock, and he can make way more money renting the track for track time than for AutoX. So he's not "anti-AutoX", he just doesn't have the space from a profit point of view.
