Hey Theo!

Yep, I had the same benefit when I lived in Carson City, no smog check.

Many years ago I lived in Orange county. At the time I was driving a VW Thing. After a few months I got a California drivers licencse and tried to register my car. One look at the motor and I failed smog. They insisted I must replace my motor with the original smog motor. The original smog motor blew up at 27k miles due to the smog system leaning out the mixture. I'm sure my motor would have passed the sniff test but I couldn't get past the visual test.

I fought a long battle and ended up with over $1000 in fines. I finaly told them to piss off and drove back to Nevada to get registered and a new license. I never paid the fines and they later nailed me for living in California and not registering my car. This ended up around $1000 fine also. When I moved back to Nevada I had multiple bench warrents remaining in Ca. I never paid a dime.
