Damn, I feel like Rodney King, y0! "Can't we all just get along!" haha.

Anyway, my computer has been fux0red, so I haven't had much to say about this, but I witnessed some pretty shitty driving by the guy in the 5. Which is why I was under the impression that this guy was not in it for a race. He
was acting very maliciously towards us and the Ford truck for that matter.

However, Mike, you make some good points, and (you and) I both know what it's like to get baited all the time. I can't drive around town on a given friday night without being tailgated, flashed, etc. I just have to stay smart and ignore such advances. And by no means am I an angel  , I've wasted a car or two from stoplight to stoplight,, just to get it over with, Not a good rationale by any means, but hey , my car hauls ass

Anyway, the 5 was in the wrong, he may very well have wanted to race, I hope that's all he wanted. (Maybe he is in the Market for a WRX and wanted to see how good they perform  . J/K) Regardless, Scott is not innocent either, he drove very aggressively to get away, but had no intention of racing.

Bottom line, it don't matter, we hauled ass to lose some guy, call it what you will. Truth is, in most people's eyes, we were street racing. I'm sure thats what a cop would have called it had we been seen.

I knew that damn wing would get the wrong kind of attention!

For anyone not familiar with Doug Hayashi's Pyramid Of Speed, the full transcript can be found here. 8)

The only thing wrong about the pyramid is that it's missing on more level.

Rally.

Find me another motorsport where dodging cows at 120mph over gravel on a course you've never driven at speed before happens twice a month. Where wrecking doesn't mean you have to wait for the saftey crew to pull you off the wall or out of a sand trap, but where wrecking mean you hope you don't plummet all the way down the mountain into the ocean, but "luckily" hit a tree or post at 90mph instead. Where, if the car breaks, you have to get out and wrench on it all by yourself with nothing but a hovering TV helicopter to cheer you on. Find me one racing venue where when you roll your car, the spectators turn your ass over and you keep racing.

Those arrogant wheel to wheel guys have *nothing* on rally drivers.

I'll give you that one - I think Doug is a pavement-focused kind of guy.

Actually, just about everyone in motorsports at any level of the pyramid is an arrogant MF. I think it just comes with driving fast... that or the type of people that enjoy speed also happen to be the type of people that are arrogant. Hell, just look at this thread... we're all holier than thou in here! ;)

The difference is the guys up at the top can back it up better than the rest of us.

MikeSTI 2004-03-15 04:00 PM

true that

STIwish 2004-03-15 04:19 PM

Even I agree with this one, well said Scott.

Just kinda goes with the territory. Real race car drivers are by nature arrogant, selfish, and hyper-competitive (to varying degrees, which often seems to correspond to how often they win races); you have to be that way to win a race against 40 other guys just like you. People with dangerous jobs like military fighter pilots & special operations soldiers are usually very similar, if not even more competitive and cutthroat, since "winning" for them means not dying.
