Sweet. Can you get titanium tension mount rings? Perferably with a Mossanite stone. Like this one?

or this one?

We have do have tension set, by Gelin Abaci, why would you want moussanite when you can get a princess cut diamond? We also have several vendors available... and if you really want a neat inexpensive gem, bet lannyte instead.

What about your last name?

No, Deede's new last name is "atari."

Ezdno 2006-06-14 08:41 PM

is that atari from the famous atari's? I was asking because a young man named Josh came in to the store today to order his tension set engagement ring.

Oh Deede....why Titanium? I know its light and the color is kinda cool, but if anything goes wrong with that ring, and you can't get it off, say you smash it or something will probably lose the finger. We sell ALOT of Titanium, but we always make sure the people know that its size to fit and you can not cut it off, if it gets too small, or something else happens. Just asking, I like them too.

We aren't located in Reno. We're in Sacramento, so I know for sure it wasn't my Josh at your store.

My new last new isn't actually "atari" silly, Kevin's just saying that because Josh's screen name is kidatari. ;) I'd rather not post his last name.

I love the color of titanium and the feel. Gold is ugly IMHO; white gold turns yellowish quickly, therefore requires a too much maintenance; and Platinum is almost as expensive as the diamond itself. I don't really care about how expensive my ring is. I'm really hard and on things and I'll destroy a precious metal.

I had a titanium tension ring before with a CZ. This is a horrible idea, becuase the stone can chip and which makes the ring shrink (it was soo hard to get it off). That why this time I am want a hard stone for the tension mount portion.

Now this lannyte thing is completely new to me. I'm just starting researching it now. Very interesting. What is the hardness rating for the Lannyte? I could not find it online, only the sparkle factor.
I didn't know that there was more that one type of synthetic diamond. I just found out that there is yet another called an "asha". Have heard anything about this Mr. Ezdno?

Thanks for your help!

Ezdno 2006-06-15 08:58 AM

Diamond Hardness = 10
Lannyte = 9.5 Asha = didnt say, but I guess comparable to Lannyte
Moussanite = 9.25
Sapphire/Ruby = 9

But remember the difference of hardness is similar to the richter scale for an earthquake, The difference between a 10 and a 9 is HUGE. I have not heard of asha, and I asked our gemologist, and our owner, both of which had never heard of it. The Lannyte Co. has been in business about 20yrs. We have noticed a huge surge in Lannyte sales, the cost is cheap compared to the same size diamond, and literally you can not tell, the facets are crisp. Unlike CZ where the facets are more rounded because the hardness is so low, and the color is very blue.

Good luck with the search. Let me know if I can help.

I am not fond of gold either, white gold yellows because its just yellow gold with additives and eventually the additives wear off and you need to Rhodium(Platinum) Plate them. I like silver better, just a preference.

I knew they don't resize them but didn't think of issues when cutting off. I'm sure it's more difficult than gold but impossible????

Ezdno 2006-06-15 01:33 PM

They have a special tool for it, and it can be cut, but it requires several cuts and it takes a very long time. The ring can not be bent off like gold. My concern would be if something happened and there was no tool to be found. So I guess its not IMPOSSIBLE. /retracts my can not be cut off statement.
