Lovelock was dope!
The track consisted of three legs, one out a taxiway, one down the runway, and one back in the taxiway. The wierd part was that because the runway was "active" when a plane came in, we'd have to run around tossing cones off the runway so the plane could land! Luckily we only had two planes come in... one early before the event started came in to refuel, and another later during the 2nd run group (iirc) for a touch and go. The Saturday course was really difficult. Tons of cones and DNF's. It had a lot of long, fast straights interrupted by very tight, narrow chicanes and hairpins. Very difficult, but not necessarily "unfair" or a BS hard course. You could go fast, but only if you had a lot of balls to really push it on the straights and lots of precision to get it thru the small stuff. The Sunday course was changed quite a bit. In addition to running the course in the opposite direction, Dave also opened up the course a LOT. Times were a good 10 seconds faster on Sunday! Most of the spots that had been tight corners were now additional straights, connected with some high speed transitions. I almost lost it on the starting slalom... my stock springs allow for a ton of body roll on fast transitions, and I must have fish-tailed it 3 times before finally hauling the car back into control! The only problems with Derby field: it's small... there's very little room for the paddock and grid. It's also in the middle of nowhere... no food or anything for like 10 miles... I had no idea it would be so isolated, so I didn't pack a lunch, thanks to the Evans, Debbie and the Debordes for spotting me food! Finally... there's rattlesnakes at the airfield... you gotta watch yourself out there! It looks like the Hawthorne event is going to be moved to Lovelock. The people there are really friendly, the Ramada's a decent hotel (happy hour domestic beers only 50 cents!!) and the pavement at the airfield is pretty nice. So everyone'll have a second chance to do a Lovelock event. Plus, it looks like we're going to be trying to pull off the show-n-shine that event, so I'll prolly need as many SECCS people as possible! I'm about to upload some pics from the event... they'll be up here shortly! |
So who won STX? and how many ended up competing?

MattR: So who won STX? and how many ended up competing?
<homestar voice> seriously? </homestar voice> |

I beat Theo on Saturday, (we were the only STX cars there) and took 6th in PAX. (Surprised the hell outta me too, since I felt like I "left some on the table" on my fastest run..) On Sunday Theo couldn't run because his back went out. :( So I won STX Sunday too, but since I was the only car there, I only get 11 points!! This makes the STX champoinship potentially closer! In fact, I'm not really sure if I can beat Theo now... I don't totally understand how the drops work, but if I'm the only one left in STX this season, then I may not be able to earn enough points to beat Theo. So... Matt and Tyson.. you guys need to show up so I can beat you! :P  |
Ok, I'll run STX , and if I recall, last time I showed up, you didn;t beat me :D , is theo ok?

you're absolutely right, I can tell its going to take me a few runs to get up to competitive speeds in this beast. but at least running A Stock, I'll still be in the same run group.
I'm just starting to really push the car, (as much as public roads will allow, safely) and I can tell you that this car is in a whole different world as far as handling and balance goes. I love it more every day, but the power can turn it into a handful very quickly if I'm not careful...a few days of autocross will really help me out, I can;t wait. |
Okay, here's some pics!

I was either too busy or kicking it in the pits w/o a decent view of the track... But I do have some video footage from some of my runs: Day 1, Run 2 Day 1, Run 4 <-- tanked a lot of cones on this one... 2 in the 1st slalom... Day 1, Run 7 <-- this is the run that PAX'd 6th. Day 2, Run 3 Day 2, Run 6 |
