That's funny, I liked the big open courses... sometime you even get to use third!! Plus, the courses were real easy to memorize... I ran a few NASA events down in Monterey, and those courses were *tiny* with like 2 crossovers... I swear it was super easy to get lost...

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-03-31 08:46 AM

I like their courses too, good for the Mustang... 90 mph courses rule.

In the other direction, I think Boreal's a 40 minute drive for me; so, if you were to stay at your cabin in Boreal, you should have less than a 1 hr drive to get to Stead.

For the Winnemucca and Hawthorne events, most of the drivers stay overnight; we get a discount rate at the host hotel/motel, and we usually have some kind of gathering Friday night and a banquet on Saturday night (and pool party at the hotel in Hawthorne).

Hope to see you out at Stead & Boreal, & to meet you in person.

Im biased because my car = slow yet handles excellent. Small courses + my car = Victory. The last time I raced at an AA course I came in 2nd to last out of 100 cars :( But I did mange to do a perfect drift by accident :)

Hey dknv:

How do I get there? At the stead airport right? Thanks for any directions.

Arthur

dknv 2003-04-01 03:43 PM

The typical route is pasted below, but here's a shortcut: exit Lemmon Valley Rd., (there is a McDonalds at that exit); go past the light, 1st left turn is Military Rd, take that to the deadend, left on Echo Ave, right on Mt Vida (Stead Blvd turns into Mt Vida), you'll be at step 4 below, and will have missed the traffic lights down Stead Blvd.

Stead Airport -- Stead is located just North of Reno
1: From the Interstate 80 and US 395 junction, take US 395 north from Reno (towards Susanville.)
2: Take the Stead Blvd. exit and turn right (East).
3: Continue on Stead Blvd. all the way into the airport. At the "Y" intersection, remain in the right lane.
4: Once through the airport gates, turn left at Alpha and immediately right on Petriciani.
5: Proceed to the grandstand area to park and register.

If you're going to run in the morning, I'd suggest arriving before 9am to get registered, have your car tech'd and walk the course before a 9:30a drivers meeting.

Anyone wanna meet in Reno for donuts or something then caravan out there? Say Krispy Kreme (even tho those are crack laced donuts) at 7am on Saturday?

ZER026D 2003-04-01 05:13 PM

Im down for that.

ArthurS 2003-04-01 05:25 PM

I am down. I may not even do a run out there tomorrow, just get the feel for everything. My rear-diff isn't installed until Monday. That noise still makes me nervous.

So 7 AM krispy kream on saturday?

MattR 2003-04-01 09:14 PM

I'd like to go , but I don't think my car will pass tech. Is a swaybar mod. and 17" wheels okay? I'm not sure how it works, can I run practice? regardless, I want to go out here and check it out.

MattR 2003-04-01 09:17 PM

So, Krispy Kreme at 7 AM Saturday??? I'll see you guys there.

tysonK 2003-04-01 10:21 PM

dang i hate getting up early but if it's for the WRX i guess i will..

ArthurS 2003-04-02 01:39 AM

aww...come on. You can get the Krispy Kream donuts, which are like cocaine.

You know you want to be there.

It'll pass tech... tech basically checks to make sure your battery is tied down, you have no leaks in the motor, and you have seatbelts and a helmet (loaners available). It does not check to make sure you're in the correct class. Plus, AFAIK this is a non-points event. Which is good since I'll have to run in O-Mod or somthing due to my ALK still being on the car...

ArthurS 2003-04-02 09:23 AM

I assume when you mean battery tied down and seat belts that I would be fine with the stock stuff.

And as far as I know I have no leaks.

Yeah... any car built in the last 15 years, in stock condition will probably pass tech, as long as there's no broken stuff. Tech it to keep the clunkers from going out there and tossing a battery into the crowd, or catching on fire w/ a loose fuel line, or to prevent someone w/ bad brakes from killing themselves / others.

ArthurS 2003-04-02 09:31 AM

Gatcha. I do have a noisy rear-diff. I can deafen the crowd :?

If you're rear-diff is louder than the 95db limit, well... then you got much bigger problems thant you think... lol.

ArthurS 2003-04-02 09:48 AM

I don't think its that loud. Just annoying. Plus it gets fixed on Monday along wth my side skirt which is loose.

Does anyone know the class/run group information for the auto-x @ Stead over the 26th-27th? I'm running street modified, but I can't find info on what order groups are in on the Reno SCCA webpage.

The run groups are on the autocross schedule link on the left --
SM is in the white (W) run group, which runs 1st on Saturday, and 2nd on Sunday. So come on out & show us how to do it!

Austin... if you're gonna try to make the Sat Morning run, you'll have to come up Friday night. We gotta be out at the track at like 7 or 8 am to help setup!

Yeah that's what I figured... I'd leave here at like 7pm Friday night (to avoid a55-lici0us traffic) and get into Reno at like 11-11:30pm. Ughh... coffee required that morning. Plus I gotta screw with the car a little before the event, I think I'm gonna advance the timing a little bit more up there to try and get back some lost power. Up there I could probably get away with 2-3* more advance, especially running in the morning when it's cold.

Well, at the last event, I got up at about 5am so I could prep the car, and get out to Krispy Kreme by 7am. Made for a long-ass day, but it wasn't too bad since I went to sleep at like 10pm. Going to sleep at midnight and getting up at 5 will suck.

Is everyone else gonna come out to this event? Should we do the donut thing again? We owe Sergio free donuts!
