Similar Issue
My 99 Outback is Misfiring on #4. Coil is Good, Plug Wires are New, Plug is New and has spark, Swapped #3 and #4 Injectors with no improvemt, Throttle Body is Clean, EGR Valve Feels good, Sprayed Carb Cleaner on all hose connections (i think) w/ no change.... The car runs pretty good once its reved up but the CEL still blinks. It idles like crap but has never died. I just took it up to shasta and got 23mpg which is normal for me with snow tires. I ran it with the #3 plug out and there was a faint smell of fule. I ran it with #4 plug out and i dont think i smelt any fule. The motor was warm so it was evaporating fast. -With the #3 plug out it only ran slightly worse (on 2 cyl if #4 is truely not getting fule). I dont have a stuck valve do I??? (please no) What havent I checked??? Nate reno |
Compression. You need air, spark, fuel, and compression. You're on the right track, checking the plugs/injectors! If you have a compression gauge set, check the cranking compression of all the cylinders. Sounds like you've got a weak one.

Misfire
Boy if you thought Spark Plugs were fun Wait till you try the compression tester. What size exactially are the spark plugs. I dont think my tester has the righ size adapter but its hard to tell +/- 2mm.
Is it true that the H block can't be wet tested? |
Ah hell dude... of the top of my head, I have NO IDEA what size the plug threads are.

14mmx1.25 if I remember right.
