I watched the LV mustang driver at the SD Pro, and he was putting down some fast times.
IMO we should stop worrying about running on street tyres (just for you, Mike) - and plan to go and do the best you can do, and Have Fun! For many reasons, the out-of-town events are alot of fun. The LV region has some really fun people too! (Hopefully my car will be fixed by Friday - clutch replacement, what a pain.) |

Good luck Renoites!

Any udates from the first two run groups?
|
Not til later. There are only 3 run groups at Hawthorne and everybody is expected to remain on-site all day.
|
We actually only had two run groups, and ran a morning then afternoon session. 3 runs, 3 runs, lunch, 3 runs, 3 runs. Morning was fast, but the afternoon just got faster.
I had a lot of fun, but I am beat right now. Right at the end of the day, when I was already starting to feel a little heat exhaustion and minor dehydration coming on, a kart hit a cone right in front of me and Matt. The cone ended up lifting his tires off the pavement and he just slid into the dirt. We were already beat, but now we had to go drag a kart back onto the pavement. What's worse is that the cone ended up wrapped in the front axle so the front wheels weren't turning. I don't think I've ever physically worked so hard at an autocross before in my life. As for times, I'll have to verify, but I think I was only .2 off a race tire ESP camaro. So, there you have it folks, definitive proof that race tires are only worth .2 seconds on a 90 second course. I ended up with an 88.8, Matt was running 84.5, Dean 83.5, Mike had an 82.x but it was dirty. I can't remember what his best clean time was. I think everyone else was running while I was working so I don't really recall the times. I think the fastest of the non-karts was a BSP Evo that ran an 81.6. |
Was it a two lap course or just long? Was everyone happy with safety? Thanks for the update.
|
Yeah, safety was fine. I think my top speed was actually no more than 70mph.
The course was just long. I think last year was about the same length, more or less. |

Top 10 Raw and top 11 PAX without the T modifier FTW. :) I learned to launch the STI today, so Mike and Scott should be very, very afraid... |

But seriously... sounds like you guys are beating up on everyone else a bit... makes me wish I was there to beat up on you guys. :P |
Man today was fun.
Reno took the trophy again, by .3 seconds. Closest margin ever. I did worse today compared with yesterday. I took a ride with MikeK and got physically ill. All in all, good times. |
Even without the street tire modifier, we won by three tenths of a second average PAX...
All did well. We think Mike's rear sway is binding, and on the mostly transition course he had a hard time keeping the front not in back. Debbie won BS and top Ladies PAX. Mark got 2nd in open PAX. Rachel did well, though it appears in all their cases that RX-8s attract cones. :) Carrie was third in Ladies PAX. Sue drove much better on day 2 and ended up happy which is good. And is even happier not to be on the "last page" of the PAX results. Alex is probably driving through dirt as I type on his "short cut" home. He also had cone magnets on his car this weekend and decided on Sunday he wanted to drive the triangle in the Saturday direction. :) I think Matt was 2nd or third in BS, and as you might have guessed, I beat Mike in SM. He ran away after the event to avoid scoring and I think to pick someone up at SFO. Matt, Randy and I were out there at the crack of dawn making the day 2 course changes. I think we were both slightly more dead than others after our afternoon work sessions. One of our new guys who's name now escapes me in a black STI did well also in N-STU and is following Alex through the dirt on the route back. Hope they make it. That's it for now. I'm beat and need a shower. |
Oops we did it again! Reno bringing home the trophy.I'm beat, but I had a ton of fun...Major Props to Reno Region Ladies....Debbie 1st in PAX, Patty 2nd in PAX, Carrie 3rd in PAX (on street tires)...they rocked.
I finished 2nd in BSP both days, but with my ST modifier, I won on saturday at least. As we said Dean, the transitions today favored the race-tire cars, but I think we did quite well. Dean drove like a damn animal, I was quite impressed. I am looking forward to new shoes on the Suby for teh next event...I'm down to slick RE070's after today (Especially after my spin in front of the bus which scored a 8 out of 10 according to the crowd  ) Anyway. Good times, now to watch Monaco. |
Did you kill the Hoosiers already?
Great job team Reno! |
Yes, the hoosier died two races ago...they went way too quickly. I might try Kumhos next year, but Street tires for the rest of this season.
|
Wow. That is fast. Did you flat-spot them or just wear them out?
|
Corded 3 of 4.

that dirt drive was AWESOME :) Both Dave and I managed fine. We almost made it all the way..
Dave was running really low on gas after we got about 24 miles out, we only had 8 miles to go, but then i came up to a stream going over the road. the water wasn't that deep, like 4 or 5 " , the problem was it went from sand and small gravel to all rocks that were 4-8" diameter. i drove slowly onto it with Dave watching my tires, he told me to back up. Apparently it looked like a rather pointy rock was distorting the tire a LOT . so we just decided to head back from there. the first 4 miles were very very much like Pikes peek. and very very smooth. Nothing like having your car aimed directly at the apex as you slide through it. :) Oh yeah, the autocross event wasn't too bad either :P LMMFAO . I thought all my runs saturday were clean but it wasn't until i heard Patty on the PA say i was still working on a clean run that i realized that. Sunday I dunno what i did really. I drove really really poorly with my fastest run being a run that only involved 1 cone :) i think my only clean run may have been my DNF . Guess I liked saturdays course so much i tried to drive it on Sunday :) Such is the life for a noob racer. |
Actually, your DNF wasn't clean. There was some radio chatter about you hitting a cone after a DNF .

Awesome job to Dean and Matt and Patty and Carrie, running on street tires on this 80+ second course! While I was awarded the top ladies pax (because LV was not including our street tire modifier), I think once again Patty beats me with the street tire pax. I had times in the 84's both days, but dirty. And with both of those times, I hit those cones early in the run, then thought ("doesn't matter now") and went for banzai runs. Those were the best runs of the weekend for me! (Well, except for when Rachel got her one & only clean run. ) Rachel and I worked corner 6 out in the triangle -- we had a snake, red ants and bees at our station, saw a few people into the dirt (the DSPL car that Nick & Matt also pushed out before the kart went in on Sunday; along with a Miata that backed into the dirt but got himself out) -- got a little sunburned, came home with multiple event shirts due to LVR's ability to upsell; made some new friends; and can't wait till we do it again. And truly, great job to Reno Region for bringing it home again! -- despite not being able to claim street tyre pax for Reno drivers -- and despite the LV Region bringing 3 fast F125 drivers who took the top 3 pax spots today. |
Nice work team!
