Ya I remember that too but they had policies requiring people to have brush cleared a certain distance from their houses and what not too. So it's not like they did nothing. I think every one in Tahoe knew it was due for a huge fire at some point. I can't say I'm surprised at all. It sucks though.

yeah, previously one could not have exposed dirt. if there is no house, grass or tree, it must be covered by pine needles or wood chips. the should do great for erosion...
a friend of my wife described the layer of pine needles(next to her house) as a combustion. and down went the house.
