So, basically it's the aero restrictions causing the issues they are having?

Dean 2008-02-20 05:00 PM

I believe they specified minimum static splitter to ground distance, but insufficient suspension specifications to prevent them from coil binding or riding on bump stops.

I would think it would be a simple rule to require sufficient suspension travel prior to coil bind or bump stops to exceed the specified ground clearance by 1" or whatever it takes.

This Fontana race is going nowhere fast.

I was at PJ's for a late breakfast, thought I'd catch the start of the race there. Instead I got to watch ZZ Top almost die of old age while they waited for the rain to clear up.

Dean 2008-02-24 05:21 PM

Going again now.

Auto Club Speedway? For fuck's sake... I am so tired of everything under the sun with a little billboard space being branded by some sponsor's name. My kid is never going to know a world where stadiums & racetracks don't have some flavor-of-the-year corporate logo on them. That's fucking sad.

Let's recite the names of the dead.

California Speedway
Charlotte Motor Speedway
Sears Point Raceway
Laguna Seca
Candlestick Park...

The list is endless...

Looks like we might go racin again at 9pm...

BRISTOL!
Should be an interesting weekend. This was the best COT race last year IMHO. 3 wide racing lots of passing, few cautions...

It will be interesting to see how the racing is different between the nationwide and Cup cars is. I didn't pay attention to it last year.

It is kind of funny. The NASCAR drivers are having to actually drive the COT cars not just ride around with the foot planted, and now the F1 drivers do as well since they lost traction control, engine braking, etc...

In both cases I think it is good that the rule changes require more not less driver skill. I'd post this over in the F1 thread, but Scott would just tell me how the two are nothing alike.

So, after watching F1 qualifying, Trackside live was on.

About 10 minutes into it, someone holds up a sign that says "Jody Dykes Hates Puppies"

WTF?

Welcome to NASCAR and the "real" people from Lake Creek, TX or Deltona, FL (First two Jody Dykes hits in Google) who's friends(?) attend the races complete with their arts and crafts skills and sense of humor.

NASCAR just lost the +1 I've been giving it for the guy with the giant Boris Said head behind the analyst table a couple years ago. :(

The man was down right smooth with his 10th place finish. The rebel's never talked about him all day. Guess he's not one of the good old boys. That makes me even a bigger fan.

Joeyy 2008-04-01 10:49 PM

One more name to watch. He's from my area back in Upstate NewYork. Mark Martin has nothing but good things to say about him. Just to let you know he's going to get a top 10 finish by the end of the year.
