I'm pretty sure your homeowner's insurance should cover any losses since the truck was parked inside your garage. At least that's what they told me when my car was broken into a few years back. Unfortunately for me, the parking spots at our former condo complex are "common area" and therefore not covered against break-in. They said if I owned a home and the car would have been in the driveway or garage then the stolen property would have been replaced.

You may be able to get some money back from your insurance company but then your premium will likely go up, right? And if you tell the police department, I'm not sure what they will do.

Due to inflation, grand theft is now $5000.

Or 5 barrels of oil, whichever is greater. :(

My big concern is over a possible rate increase vs. the money I get from the claim. If the ins. pays me $1000 for the stuff but charges my an extra $300/year for the next 5 years... it's obviously not worth it.

My father-in-law had a bunch of stuff stolen out of his car(laptops, video camera, etc.) and the insurance only replaced that which he had receipts for. That might be different depending on the insurance company but, I take it that you don't have receipts for all of your cds.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my receipts from 1994 are gone by now.
