Bump

I might not be able to run my car this weekend. Anyone willing to let me codrive. i will pay gas and entry fee.

supraluke 2009-06-23 04:47 PM

I don't think i'll enter but I plan on watching since there is a carshow later on in the day at the same place.

WRX06TR 2009-06-23 06:35 PM

I will be out Sunday with my friend in his GTI and my WRX should be fun!

Jeikun 2009-06-24 11:57 PM

Haha, I'll be out there, probably running novice... But I dont know how much fun it'll be to run in my 170 hp car...

moose 2009-06-25 12:02 AM

HP doesn't matter to much in auto x. Shoot, last season, I kept up with WRX's and a swapped GC.
Plus, it is a ton of fun pushing your car to the limit, even though it may not have a gagillion hp.

Moose has it right. HP is not necessary. Watch Cory in his NA GC. He is almost keeping up with Stage 2 and beyond STIs. :)

Seriously, come out and learn to drive. Slowing down to make the corners correctly is much harder than getting on the gas pedal for the straights. And as a novice, you need seat time to figure that out. Don't be discouraged that you get your ass kicked by 135 HP Miatas and Hondas or the occasional saturn. Just come out and have fun.

?

moose 2009-06-25 08:14 AM

Yeah, you Van. Well within a few seconds anyway.

Not to discourage you, but once you've been doing it for a while, you'll realize that "close" is more like 0.02 seconds. In your first season, it's not unusual to improve by 3 or 4 seconds each lap. Once you've done a season or two, you'll find you get all excited by improving a tenth.

moose 2009-06-25 02:28 PM

I know what close is. But when the fact that the whole season last year he had more suspension mods done to the car, and a swap I felt quit pleased in the fact that we were that close.

cody 2009-06-25 02:31 PM

Meh, I'd suggest you only be proud of yourself when you beat someone in a supposedly faster car, not when you come within seconds. I enjoy looking at raw times for that purpose, but I also enjoy improving in pax.

It's certainly a valid benchmark to compare yourself to another, more modified car, and see if your times are consistently off by around the same amount.

But it's not exactly supporting evidence for this statement:

Getting beat by 2 seconds isn't a case for horsepower not mattering. In fact, getting beat by 2 seconds consistently (for example) is evidence that the additional horsepower is actually worth 2 seconds per lap. :P

van 2009-06-25 02:53 PM

I rode with Moose last year and I was impressed, He's a good driver, especially working a 4eat around an autox course. The suspension didn't help me much as when I put on the rear sway I gave myself full rear toe out which has in turn made me a wimp in slaloms/turns. I gotta relearn everything.

MattR 2009-06-25 03:16 PM

I hopped in Moose's car to day to pre-run the course after we set it... and he laughed at me while I fished for the clutch pedal. hahaha. Course is set bitches, but you better stay away 'til tomorrow or my security team will go Rodney King all over your ass.

Thanks Moose.

I should be out sunday too. Egads for ESP!

cody 2009-06-26 10:41 AM

Nick and Nick, either of you want to trade rides the first one or two runs?

Dean 2009-06-26 11:23 AM

DK is going to the SF region divisional, so Rachel is on her own in the RX-8 this weekend at GSR. Keep an eye open and help her out if you can. (Unless she gets to drive a kart again, at which point, she gets no help. ;) )

I may come out Sunday, but my Dad's 80th birthday is this weekend and the Party is Sat.

wildfirefli 2009-06-26 12:43 PM
