Damn! Sorry Art. Hope everything turns out okay.

You should have been using Petter Solberg's wet weather Pirelli's. j/k

Really sorry to hear about that Art.. it looks like at least the rotor & caliper are still intact. I hate to think about what a dealer is going to charge for repairs...

Ow, so sorry to hear about this ARt.

I hope the weird abs problems didn't contribute. I've noticed them kicking in on my car in places I didn't want them to, over the past week -- annoying.

STIwish 2003-11-05 01:20 PM

weird abs problem!? i knew i wasnt imagining things, that happened to me multiple times when i was up there auto-xing... including my 11 cone killer run... in the video you dont see any brake lights or anything in the turn, but the wheels just locked and i slid through a bunch of cones.

That's not a "wierd ABS" thing... the ABS won't *ever* come on unless you're pushing the brake. What you experienced is called "pushing"... you turn the wheel and just slide on the front tires. Basically you're going too fast for the turn and there isn't enough traction available up front for the tires to turn the car, so you just slide straight.

When you do it real bad, it can sound just like the ABS is on. I've got in-car video of one of my runs during the last event when I did it (the video's on my PC at home, I can upload it later tonight)... you hear the tire squeal, then suddenly it just shakes to hell... the camera bounces all over the place as I hop on the front tires. All this w/o touching the brake, I was simply going too fast for the turn. As the push scrubs off speed, my traction picks back up and the car finishes the turn.

Ask Art about pushing real bad, that's how he ran over a tree.

ArthurS 2003-11-05 03:25 PM

Yep. Same way I hit the tree.

Oh and the estimate ended up being 5,300.00$ for all the work, new parts, paint, and new fender.

Well, my car is getting fixed. It should be done in a 1-2 weeks hopefully. I am getting this all done through the Lithia Body shop. I just hope they are better then the service department. So far no troubles with them.

And I have decided my car will be traded in soon after the fix. I get to skecthy about a cars integrity after the few small accidents I have been in. Me hitting the tree, me getting hit but a dumbass that fled the scene, and me hitting the curb.

Oh, and Scott at Lithia said that there are multiple subaru's in his shop due to the same type of accident on the same night! More then 4 subaru's have hit the curbs! Not to mention or friend in the 'Aerio' wrecked his car to so I was told.

Careful out there everyone.

Glad to hear it's gettin fixed...

I'm not surprised there were a bunch of wrecks... that icy weather hit us only a week after 80 degree weather, lots of people got caught out on summer tires.

STIwish 2003-11-10 05:18 PM

Ack.. what a bad month for Subies!! What happened with the Aerio?

It all depends on the shop doing the work... after you get it back you could string & measure the suspension points to see for yourself if everything is straight. When I was an 18-yr old dumbass I wrecked my Mustang (when it was still my dad's car and I borrowed it) and bent up the front end... turns out the dealer repair shop did a pretty damn good job of fixing it all those years ago cause all the front-end measurements I've been taking lately verify that the car is straight.

Wow... you've started publicly admitting that? How many years did it take, nearly 10?

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-11-11 09:56 AM

 Well that was in 1995... you do the math. Don't hurt yourself now...
