If GM wasn't run by retards, they very well could have made that true here in the States as well. :unamused:

Imagine making Buick sedans as low-slung, wide, curvy cars with loads of tech gadgets, big V8 motors, LED headlights, solar roofs, etc. Then whoop on the 7-series market by selling them at $50k. Let Cadillac be the conservative luxury brand, make Buick into the cutting edge luxury brand.

Had they tried that 10 years ago, they could have pulled it off.

Buick could have been the Audi/BMW of the U.S. if they had known how or had a clue what that market segment wanted. They took the few remaining Olds customers and thought they had gained market share and kept building crap even your parents don't want in this country.

Why U.S. Automakers can't figure out how to compete with European and Asian nameplates in the U.S. is beyond me. Maybe they are afraid of the DMCA if they reverse engineer them. :)

The really aggravating thing is that the domestic companies have engieers just as good as anybody else. They don't need to reverse engineer a BMW or Lexus. They just have to look at the paper specs, and with a reasonable timeframe they'd get there. But many decades ago, marketing and accounting started wagging the dog in this country, and that is showing no signs of truly changing. Instead of $300 million "buy American" ad campaigns, they just need to ask themselves "Why does the competition keep increasing market share, and how do we 1-up them?" the answers are pretty simple really.
