When a Mac dies, you have exactly one option, nobody has any spare parts, and the $$$ make you cry.

You're right Scotty, although there is always ebay, I upgraded my macbook with mostly ebay parts.
Apple does have better build quality though, and uses better quality components(less likely to have some some minor failure). I have owned and built many PCs in my life so I'm not really anti PC, I just am happy to have one less thing to have to fix(godt damn car). My 2 yr old Dell notebook has been a royal pain with me sending it back 2x under warranty and then me personally replacing hinges 3x, 1 lcd, and 1 set of memory and I had to reformat countless times. I'm maybe 6 months into mac ownership and have had 0 problems.
I feel like one of those mac fanboy jerks now so I'm off to read the springs vs coilover thread, sorry

So I got the new CPU and installed it. The computer started, the case beeped and it loaded windows. WOOHOOoo yeah, until windows said "hey, your computer looks different to us and we think your trying to pull a fast one, you must now reactivate windows within 3 days or the girl dies!" So I click on OK and then it just sits there with nothing but my desktop background picture up and it does absolutely nothing. If I have to call into Microsoft that is fine, but even if they give me a new activtion, where am I going to type it? Any Ideas?

Can you get to the Internet? Probably a bunch of drivers need to be updated with new MB including network...

XP

Vista info

I think the virus that was on the computer is the problem. I think its keeping me from accessing the internet and running the cd to install my drivers. I started the computer in safe mode and then I opened up the task manager. For some reason "iexplorer.exe" would keep popping up after I closed it. Then I tried to open malwarebytes and I could see it try to run on the task manager but it would never open. So I changed the name of the malwarebytes executable and then I was able to open it. I think I am dead in the water until I can get all that other crap removed.

I can plug your drive into one of my machines and clean it up if you need it.

Ok thanks. I think I am getting through it but if I can't get it done before bed then I will call you tomorrow.
