Hrm... it is fast. Not sure what I'd use that for... except streaming netflix I guess.

I could really care less about "speed test" results. Cody, what download speed are you getting with your torrent program?

1.7 mbps or so. I think a 700 MB file took under 10 minutes at one point.

100_Percent_Juice 2010-02-23 09:45 AM

That's pretty awesome. The best I have gotten with my 6mb uverse service is about 750kb/sec. It would be pretty sweet if they never mentioned anything and the speed continued. What charter speed are you actually signed up for?

cody 2010-02-23 09:55 AM

I "pay" for 10, but they actually lowered my monthly bill when I upgraded from 5...locked in for 12 months...

I pay ~$110/mo for internet and TV with DVR, HD, and two premium channels. I want to find out if they offer a better DVR though (1080p instead of 1080i and a faster/better interface).

Last time I checked, I couldn't get Uverse, but I would consider it.

Go IGT!

Edit, ran it again, just to be sure...

No wonder it takes 10 minutes to watch a 2 minute long video on YouTube.

cody 2010-02-23 10:00 AM

Ha, faster upload than download. It's probably a T3 with more Download load than upload load or something.

No, it's probably the 1000 people listening to Pandora. :unamused:

cody 2010-02-23 10:02 AM

That's what I said. :)

Starting with a symetrical connection like T1/T3's and then adding users who compete for, primarily, download speed is going to cause the test to indicate a faster upload than download.

ScottyS 2010-02-23 11:15 AM

Oh, I know. I just thought that my blazing upload capability when compared to prime traffic download time was funny.

I've been here on holidays and clocked some unreal download speeds.

cody 2010-02-23 11:20 AM

I bet. That is a crazy fast upload speed.

Around 5pm here, the network suddenly gets awesome. Sometimes I specifically wait 'til then to download logs from our server or check-in a bunch of changes to source control. It's the difference between waiting 90 minutes and waiting 5 minutes.

Kevin M 2010-02-23 01:59 PM

Damn... here's results from Sierra 102 at TMCC.

I don't suppose the server in New Zealand has anything to do with it?

ScottyS 2010-02-23 05:21 PM

It's nice to be here after 5pm.....weeeeeeeeeeeee

:jawdrop:

That's a lot of porn you could be downloading!

marleyjb 2010-02-25 05:50 PM

From an insiders perspective (I work for a contractor for Charter):

I have heard through the grapevine that Charter is increasing speeds across the board. And that they will be offering a 64 mb service in the near future.

We know somebody that works there. I am sure they could get it turned back down for you. :)
