But seriously, going slow can still be fun if you're working on a particular aspect of your driving. The fun comes from improving over the course of the session/day... not just from driving around at speed.

You're a far more experienced driver than I am in that aspect- I spent the last few years concentrating at Solo on pushing a car to its limits to know where they are and how to predict it and deal with it. I'm just now beginning to focus on technical aspects like managing left-foot braking going in and applying power at the right time coming out, and placing the car in a specific spot to open up the line. I suppose that if/when I get really good at that part of driving, I may be able to enjoy driving well below the limit.

I guess my point was that if you drive at 8/10ths while specifically practicing left foot braking, for example, don't you have fun as you notice yourself getting better at it?

I know when I'm working on a particular corner or something and I finally get it right, it's awesome, even at slower speeds. In fact, practicing at slower speeds tends to be *more* fun because it's easier to get things right when you're not on the limit and scared about flying off the track.

See, I've been practicing not getting scared about being at the limit. Which is why I won't hill climb, in a nutshell.

Hahaha, Identity theft!

KSpeed Auto 2011-06-17 04:18 PM

Yeah, he wasn't happy about seeing that... Something about hunting the guy down and killing him...

P.S. We're completely out of our minds, and decided last night, on a whim, to campaign Ray Cunningham's 2007 WRX in the hill climb...! Anybody going out, we'll see you there!

The course worker in the driveway said the guy came in spilling oil.
Engine was super hot, fans ran for 10 minutes after it was shutdown. Kris said maybe a cracked block?

How was it? The unofficial results have "Ryan Cunningham" at 4:15.

That seams a little slow, did something happen?

Knucklesplitter was telling me that Ray was driving his street car (also a WRX) and not the caged racecar. I guess he just wasn't familiar enough with the road to push too much. Frankly, that's the approach I'd take even in the racecar.

Nice to see Tom with a 3:46. :)

Oh that's Ray Cunningham? I was wondering his time. ...I just realized that's the guy im talking to about buying brakes from haha.

Dean 2011-06-24 06:55 AM

Missed Tom. That is great!

Did not know Ray was in a street car or not familiar with the road.

His racecar blew up at the last time trials, you might have seen that, or you might have been in the classroom. He had a spare motor waiting to go in, but didn't have the time I guess to get the car done before the hill climb.

And it is possible to live here and never drive the truck route... I've been in Reno for 10 years now, and I've driven it only once, and that was going downhill, not up.

Huh? He ran a 3:45 without a motor? That is even more impressive. :)
