My car is almost ready.. just needs to be washed and have the brakes bled. I rolled it on the scales last night and it was perfect.. diagonals were within 2lbs of each other with me in the car, without even changing anything. Left-side & right-side total weights were dead even too, which is pretty cool.

I've been busy at work trying to meet a Friday deadline, so I haven't planned anything.

What hotel are you staying at? I need to call them and make a reservation for Pat and I... unless you wanna add a bed to yours and cram all of us in there. I'm broke as hell, so I'm down to just toss a bag on the floor if necessary.

Is Laura going with you?

I don't know, I'm still waiting for Scott to call me!

I got a reservation at the M-6 in Merced (north) for Sat. night. Laura hadn't really decided if she was going, I'll ask her again tonight after work.

AtomicLabMonkey 2004-10-15 07:56 AM

Laura's not going, so I can call the M6 today and see if I can change to a 2-bed room if you guys want? That way only 1 person would have to sleep on the floor. Unless you guys were snuggling up together...

Pat R. 2004-10-15 08:42 AM

THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!!!!

Ask them if they have a roll-away bed. When I used to work for a cheapskate company we often tripled up in rooms when roll-away beds were available.

Dooo eeeeiiit!!

I've got a sleeping bag, so worst case, I can hit the floor (or snuggle up w/ Austin... his wife tells me he's mildly bi-curious. :P).

If this is the same place I stayed at with Austin and Laura last year, the rooms are decently sized... assuming my memory serves me well, all I can really remember is the mexican restaurant.

"I have nipples... can you milk me?"

AtomicLabMonkey 2004-10-15 11:56 AM

Okay, the room is changed - we got 2 full beds now (one of them is mine - and mine alone :P ). With three of us that will make it pretty cheap, under $20/person.

Sweet... now I can afford gas to get there and maybe even back!

What time do you guys run tomorrow? I'll probably set up camp as close to the Maier rig as I can when I get there mid-morning, if you're not already there.

I hope you guys had a good time at Castle, and that the rain stayed away from you. I also hope, Scott & Pat, you came up the hill earlier. I just got home about 30 minutes ago, the lower half of 80 from Auburn had the hardest rain I've ever seen, and lots of places of hydroplaning -- and the summit had almost 4" of snow on the sides of the road. We saw lots of people pulled off to both sides of the road, some people who slid off, and the truckers were off to the side putting on chains, or just stopped. A wild & wooly ride home! Thank Goodness for the Beauty of All Wheel Drive.

They made it safe.

Scott and Pat are back, they can tell you about it!

Pat and I snuck over the pass just before the snow. However, shaved, worn, Azenis Sports in driving rain = a handful! At speeds over 45mph, you should not drive in water on Sports, they're basically a set of wakeboards.

qksubi 2004-10-18 05:17 AM

Scott or Dean how come I'm not listed on the open street tire list :?: :?

Absolutely!

Was Bob Williamson there? I passed a truck & trailer with a Reno SCCA sticker that I guessed was him, coming up the hill.

Let us know how it was when you have time.

Pat R. 2004-10-18 09:13 AM

We didn't see Bob there. The only familar face was the other dude in the red Z06 with the big silver "04" (the hair farmer  )

The course was VERY fast. I was hitting the top of 3rd (~85 mph) before the first sweeper. The rest of the course was right in the powerband in 2nd and not very technical. It was a lot of fun. Sunday was the same course only wetter . I swapped my tires thinking the Hoosiers would be worthless and then the course dried up. I was about 4 seconds slower on street tires Sunday than I was on Hoosiers Saturday. The skies opened up toward the end of the run group and the timing light stopped working so they called it a day. Scott was licking his chops in anticipation of running in the pouring rain but it wasn't to be...

I was litterally sitting at the start line waiting for the green flag in a downpour when they called the event. :( Even pleads of "I've got AWD!!" didn't sway them to run one more car. :x

Oh well, the course was really open, fast, and fun. I really should have played with the suspension to get more oversteer and gone out there drifitng a bit more. Oh well. For the 1st time ever though, I beat Austin! 'Course he was running his Kuhmo 712's instead of race tires. ....but that had nothing to do with it! :P

Hehe... I wanna drive your car again, that thing is really getting quick. I was just stoked that I stayed within ~1sec of your times, especially in the rain. 8)

I agree worn out sports are not for rain use... Full tread sports are OK for surfaces with good drainange and light rain, but standing water really requires a directional open pattern...
