OOooO00hh waatchh ouut for the ***** ********.

Dean 2008-01-04 05:15 PM

Snow donkeys get pissed when they are also soggy, so watch out.

I looked outside an hour ago and it was raining and 30 degrees, so knew the change over was coming.

Snow on top of soaked surfaces = ice... Already sticking here on the roads and 1/4" deep...

It is going to be ugly. Glad I bought gas for the generator last night.

MattR 2008-01-04 05:25 PM

I'm so excited that I am here at work for another 3 hours...Then I get to drive home in teh most treacherous of conditions. Go go gadget physics exemption!

Nick Koan 2008-01-04 05:58 PM

Yeah, this definitely seems like a night to stay in.

Nick Koan 2008-01-04 06:07 PM

Hot damn. I figured I'd go rent a movie before it got too bad out there. I missed that boat by a few hours I guess :p

I made it about 1/2 mile down the road before saying "screw that"

What, your bald tires can't handle the snow?

Nick Koan 2008-01-04 06:18 PM

Only one part of one tire is bald. :p

I guess thats better than nothing. My whole tire is bald. The only thing Giving me traction is the wear bars. (little exageration)

Dean 2008-01-04 06:27 PM

2 inches in the past hour... Almost unheard of in Reno...

moose 2008-01-04 06:29 PM

I shoveled half of my drive way and in a half hour it was already to 1/2 inch. Its narly out there.

I thought about that, but the DTV wasn't really working earlier with all the wind and rain. Might be better now that its just snow.

I do think I have those "Welcome to DirecTV, here are some free PPV coupons" lying around here somewhere.

Nick Koan 2008-01-04 06:55 PM

Oops, that's a big negatory now that the dish is completely covered in snow

tysonK 2008-01-04 07:20 PM

satellite under the eave of my roof ftw, no snow on it perfect reception.

omg. there is a lot of snow outside.

I bit the bullett, went for a movie and groceries/beer:?: slow on the road.I saw 2 STI's at Raleys. I went and found a huge empty parking lot for donuts though:)

100_Percent_Juice 2008-01-04 07:42 PM

7:20pm N Reno 5 1/2"

and Washoe County owes me for all the plowing I have done for them.

ScottyS 2008-01-04 08:38 PM

I made it back through Washoe Valley, lots of mini-vans out in the middle with hazards on, slowly disappearing under the falling powder. Coming down the hill into Carson, I got to countersteer a little at 45mph, fun, kinda. I saw a donkey try to materialize, but he got taken out by a Suburban.

Dean 2008-01-04 09:28 PM

Donkey's like Suburbans and mini vans.

I gave up after shoveling 6-8 inches and then 1 inch and 1 inch. At least it won't be impossible in the AM. Heard lots of sirens while I was out there wafting up from the valley below. There must be a herd in the neighborhood.

Go drive 1 of your 3 snow blowers around and leave us alone to our shoveling misery. :)

How is it up there? It looked terrible on the news earlier.

tysonK 2008-01-04 10:03 PM

dude

ScottyS 2008-01-04 10:07 PM

And then my wife turns to me and says, "I think I'm having mild regular contractions".

Oh no. Not now.

Are you serious?

ScottyS 2008-01-04 10:14 PM

As serious as the book titled "Emergency Childbirth: A Manual" that is sitting on my lap right now.

She's not due for another 10 days, but you never know......

eggeegg 2008-01-04 10:46 PM

A couple minutes ago, going south on South Virginia passed South Meadows and to Damonte, all lights were out. No traffic lights, street lights, no Winco, Mercedes dealership, and that whole shopping center with Wal-mart, etc. Couldn't see anything and briefly got lost.

WRX06TR 2008-01-04 11:10 PM

I was extremely tempted to go down to the baseball field parking lot down the street and do some mad tyte JDM drifting and some Subynuts but I'm far to lazy. Plus Emily has her Wii up here :D

Wow craziness.

If there is anything you think I could do to help, just ask.

ScottyS 2008-01-04 11:31 PM

Copy that, Nick. Most likely just premature stuff. They've gotten less consistent over the last hour, so I think we're OK. We are planning on a home birth again anyhow, but I'd really like it if the donkeys don't take out the experts on their way here, heh.

Here's to being on time or late!

sperry 2008-01-04 11:43 PM

Damn Scotty! Good luck with all that!

As far as my place, we got just shy of a foot... maybe 10 inched. I went out at about 8:30pm and shoveled and cleared off the SVX and truck. Since then the snow seems to have lightened... but the wind is picking back up. Hopefully I picked the right time to pre-clear and I won't have a big mess in the morning.

Also, the plows are already out and about all over the neighborhood tonight. Much better than the last time there was a big snow storm.

Nick Koan 2008-01-05 12:01 AM

Yeah, I just got back in from shoveling the driveway (well, my side since my roommate just parked on the other side). The snow is actually not too bad to shovel right now. Its still light and fluffy.

One thing I noticed though, was that the driveway is infinitely more slick now. I had to walk up the lawn in the snow to get any traction.

well i got my 1 blessing of the year.... hit a snowbank coming round a corner.... back end went out, tried to save it and hit the snow bank head on.... thank god it was all powder, not a scratch

cody 2008-01-05 12:36 AM

Good luck everyone. I can't believe how much snow we got between 5 and 10 tonight. It looks like almost 18 inches here in Stead.

van 2008-01-05 08:14 AM

Good Morning fellow shovelers!:D Another cup o' coffee and I'm going with my son and his broom in tow.
So , was there a new baby born last night? My sister did the home birth thing in a watertub 2x.

doubleurx 2008-01-05 08:17 AM

Yes it is an impressive storm. The winds were actually more amazing than the snow. We got a little more than 3 feet with some drifts on our street at 6 feet. I just checked the weather and we're supposed to get another 2-4 feet by Sunday night.

Thank god for the type-R snow blower! I just need to get a new intake and some 110 race fuel.

Scotty S: I wish you and your wife the best and hope your roads get cleared quickly.

The thought of a home birth scares the crap out of me. I know that after being there for my first child that I could never "plan" on having my second at home. *shudders* And my wife is due July 1st so there is no chance of snow keeping me from the hospital.

M3n2c3 2008-01-05 09:14 AM

it looks like we only got a few inches that stuck, out here. . . I have enough to take my wife out to the back roads and teach her how to drive the Forester in snow, but that's about it.

Some donkeys attacked MikeK's house this morning.

http://www.neurosybir.net/nkoan/images/donkeyattack.jpg

ScottyS 2008-01-05 11:43 AM

Well, all OK for now, things are calmed down and we are back to waiting. The contractions went away after an hour or so.

We got a solid foot, maybe more, in west Carson. Our rancher neighbor cleared the driveway with his ATV, and the cars are all dug out. Fortunately, I had a bunch of wood already chopped and sitting dry in the garage....mmmm wood fire and hot chocolate.

1.5 hour shovel session, as a bonus I have a video of the stuck Armada in the distance!

cody 2008-01-05 12:36 PM

Took me 2 hours but I'm out of shape and I spent most of the time shooting the shit with my neighbors. Can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow!

Nick Koan 2008-01-05 01:01 PM

Thanks to Captain Deano I now have confidence in the snow again. Thanks!

We need pictures of the aformentioned corners so we can determine Donkey location.

Glad everyone/thing is OK though.
