Oh, someone to dethrone sperry? The suspense!

Yeah dustinr, that's the JPN Tourist Trophy, should work if your PS2 is modded. Can't tell how good a game it is though, the last motorcycle game I play was on SNES. At least it doesn't suck. GT4 engine, GT4 tracks, found 1 new track so far - Valencia.

I'm running a top speed gearing of 300 kph... seems to just about top out before T1.

Taller gearing doesn't really seem to help, because even if you get an exceptional run off the hairpin, the car is nearly to terminal velocity at 300 kph so you can't really run out of gear.

What kinda sucks is that with a few minor suspension tweaks to loosen the car up, I can run sub 1'00 laps all day in GT mode... the arcade car is really pushy in that 3rd/4th gear left hander after the 1st tunnel.

Yes. I think that's the most important corner on this track. Well, that and the hairpin.

The hairpin is obviously the most important corner... it's before the longest straight... however, you either get it right or wrong... there's not a lot of room for improvement, at least I haven't found a way to be much faster in that corner than I already am.

However that medium left sweeper seems to have 3 or 4 different lines and I can't tell which way is fastest. I've taken to driving it as a double-apex... early 1st apex, shift to 3rd and use the torque to rotate the car, late 2nd apex, get a run towards the hairpin.

Gary, do you have the means to record and post your in-car replay? I'd like to see your line if you're willing to share!

GarySheehan 2006-02-07 06:31 PM

Scott,

I haven't got a video capture card right now. I'll save them just in case I get one.

So what's the fastest lap of this challenge so far? Still you with a blazing 1:00.90?

sperry 2006-02-07 06:34 PM

1'00.932, but I just ran a 1'00.937 w/o "cutting" the curbs that everyone was complaining about earlier.

I think I can shave off another .2s or so if I can nail every corner all in one lap... but that's not necessarily within my ability.

sperry 2006-02-07 06:43 PM

Oh, and I picked up a capture card specifically for this stupid contest...

They're not exactly high quality, and the software could be better, but there are a few rather cheap PC cards out there:

The on I got isn't even listed anymore, and I just got it like 3 weeks ago.

I'm cool with changing the wording of the rules to "two wheels must always remain on pavement" instead of "on track".

And the only reason I haven't posted a time is because I have only gotten 1'03's so far.

sperry 2006-02-07 07:13 PM

Crapola.

GarySheehan 2006-02-07 07:33 PM

I was going to wait until about 11:30pm tonight to post that, but decided that's not in the spirit of the game :)

I think you can beat it, Scott.

Well, as soon as I finish eating my bowl of -0.6s chili, I'm gonna give it another whirl. I figure I've got time for about 200 laps... the question is whether or not I can put it all together on one of those laps... but that's the whole point of time trials, isn't it!

dustinr 2006-02-07 07:44 PM

Don't know if you guys are up to the challenge but see if you can duplicate those lap times with the normal PS2 controller. I'm curious to see how many second advantage the wheel and pedal set up has. That might be all the push I need to go buy them...

When you use the wheel and pedals, it almost feels like you're driving. That should be all the push you need.

Well, it's kinda like looking for something you lost. Once you find it, you don't have to keep looking.

...plus, I think I may have figured something out, there's a glimmer of hope yet:

Actually, I changed my line into T5... I'm early apexing it now and using 3rd gear under the tunnel.

Gary, you wanna come out to the Time Trials this season? I need this sorta pressure to improve my driving in real life!

GarySheehan 2006-02-07 09:07 PM

Sound like we're running the same line... though I'm actually short shifting to 5th a little.

Also... tenths are no longer up for grabs... I'm now driving for hundreths. ;)
