I think we should just crown you the winner and be done with it. :P

I bet people will join in eventually. I know I plan on running again at some point.

zpeed 2006-04-12 10:37 AM

I ran about 30 laps and got 1'27.4xx.

EQ Tuning 2006-04-12 06:16 PM

well I ran 8 laps and got a 1.27.353... if I can keep it straight the whole way I should be able to beat that ;)

EQ Tuning 2006-04-12 06:48 PM

scratch that... down to 1'27.118. I can do the first half faster now but can't seem to hold it together for the 2nd...

EQ Tuning 2006-04-13 12:08 AM

Ok... 1'26.614 and I think I'm done for the night.

GarySheehan 2006-04-13 06:57 AM

I'll be rejoining shortly...

Gary

sperry 2006-04-13 08:54 AM

You guys are killing me... the challenge ended on Tuesday, and no one but me ran it, so we don't even have a challenge right now!

Are we just going to make this one a 2-week challenge, and pick a new track next Tuesday?

cody 2006-04-13 09:04 AM

Seems to make sense since you can't win your own challenge. :P

Oh, I can win it... I just can't pick two in a row. ;)

Sorry Scott. I'll quite my racing gig and straighten up/fly right. ;)

 I was more commenting on Ed running laps 2 days after the end of the challenge, but if you wanna trade jobs I got no problem driving in Speed GT for ya while you write server software and race GT4 for me Thursday nights.

Though I think I'd probably disappoint your sponsors when I crash the car into the guy in front of me trying the old GT4 8 tire pass in T1 of my 1st event.

EQ Tuning 2006-04-13 10:20 AM

Ah... sorry scott didn't realize it was over. I finally had some time so I was excited to race. I say we make it a 2 week ;).

Yeah, no problem, let's just go on this one for one more week. I think I was the only one that ran any laps last week.

Just don't forget that the laps times don't count w/o a picture!

And I'll take over updating the 1st post if Cody's not interested.

zpeed 2006-04-13 01:00 PM

I 2nd that make it 2 weeks. Got to run more laps

zpeed 2006-04-16 02:24 PM

1'25.077 there are a little more room to improve. I just need a clean lap. I just know Sperry will be in mid 1'24. I can do that by drag thru the wall :).

EQ Tuning 2006-04-16 03:16 PM

I got a 1'25.049 but I can deffinately do a bit better if I ever get another clean lap :)

cody 2006-04-16 04:59 PM

1st post updated. I ran a couple laps and all I gotta say is I can't wait to see Scott's best lap. This car is evil...but I like it.

cody 2006-04-16 09:57 PM

22 laps and I'm still 10 seconds slower than you Mofo's.

It's like threading a box of needles with a chainsaw.

bemani 2006-04-17 08:25 AM

I bet you can go faster than that if you just stay on the gas and *try* to steer away from the walls.

cody 2006-04-17 08:56 AM

Well, I ran a few more laps and got down to the 1'30's, but I've yet to get anything that resembles a clean lap.

It's just like autocross... you need to get a rhythm. Try to drive 5 or 10 laps at like 8/10 speed. Concentrate on being smooth and sticking to the line. Try to picture what the next corner coming up is while you're mid-corner on the current turn.

I bet that even driving w/o pushing hard, you'll end up setting some faster time.

cody 2006-04-17 09:06 AM

I've been working on modulating the throttle better (it's not an on/off switch?) and smoothing out my inputs (epileptic monkeys got nothing on me).

zpeed 2006-04-17 12:59 PM

So what is your time !! Sperry?

Well... I think there's just a little more left in me... but I don't know that I'll go much faster tonight.

cody 2006-04-17 09:41 PM

Alright Scott, you're going down. That's right, it's on!

EQ Tuning 2006-04-18 10:13 PM

Woot... sorry for the crappy picture; I don't have a capture card.

EQ Tuning 2006-04-18 10:39 PM

I don't think I can run that lap again!

EQ Tuning 2006-04-18 11:31 PM

holy crap... I finally won! :)

I really don't know how I ran that lap. I had a 1'24.2xx and then took 2 whole second off with this lap. I was flying and somehow managed to keep it together the whole way.

zpeed 2006-04-19 10:18 AM

Thank Cody for the picture. OK what is the next one bring it on. What happen to Sperry?

cody 2006-04-19 10:27 AM

Ed, go buy a capture card! I want to see that insane lap!

Haha.... Sorry I just bought suspension, brakes, and ordered a turbo. Still have to order injectors and a TMIC so I really shouldn't be buying any computer toys right now :(.

The crazy part is that there are parts of that lap I can still do better on, but I will say I got kinda lucky on that last hairpin... I just barely touched the wall going into it which tossed the car right into line into a perfect little low angle drift.

Ok, I'm thinking we're gonna continue the Rally theme with the Subaru Rally car but this time on dirt. So Subaru Rally car on Swiss Alps normal. Have fun with those AWD drifts! :D

Congrats on the win. But why you gotta go and make me hate you by picking a rally track? :P You clearly don't remember the last time someone picked a rally track and all the bitching that ended up spewing forth from my mouth.

As far as the last challenge... I ended up not getting any time to run last night before the deadline, so I had to stand on my 1'25.000". I know I could have gone faster, but I'm not sure about a 1'22"! How much were you using the walls? I know I said wall contact was allowed for this challenge, but I was keeping off 'em. Are there some good spots where the walls really help?

zpeed 2006-04-19 11:33 AM

One spot that I fine big help if you just floor it and let it bounce off the wall hopefully come out ok is in the tunnel at the end where the road change color from red to normal (that is my break point). I hate dirt road :(

cody 2006-04-19 12:01 PM

Damn, I wasn't planning on competing in this Challenge since I'm in the process of buying a house and moving and all the great fun that goes along with that...but I love me some dirty Suby action.

Me too. I might just do this one race even though Final Fantasy 12 has consumed my life.

Which Subaru rally car?

Hopefully, not the one we've already used... let's avoid repeats, 'cause then I can keep my list of favorites in Arcade mode matching the challenges in order. :P

Haha... sorry scott, I wasn't playing the challenge back then I think. I used to dislike the dirt tracks in GT4 as well untill I started playing with the wheel. Now I love them. While the courses themselves aren't horribly realistic, IMO the driving dynamics are pretty spot in. It feels very similar to my own car on dirt and takes a lot of finess to get a good time. Just control your speed and get the right angles and you can pull off some really fun slides and still be very fast. I chose this track and car keeping in mind that some people might not like the dirt tracks because IMO the imprezza rally car is one of the more controllable cars and the course is fairly wide with a lot of fun sweepers. I think I'm gonna stick to this challenge as it seems atleast some other people like the dirt as well ;).

Sorry, I thought there was only one Subaru Rally car. The GC8 Imprezza is all I see and its a really fun car on the dirt.

That's the car we've already run before.

cody 2006-04-19 03:05 PM

It's not like there's a lot of good rally cars to choose from. Is repeating the same car really a bid deal?

EQ Tuning 2006-04-19 03:16 PM

The only other car I had in mind was the lancia but its not nearly as much fun as the imprezza. If you guys are cool with it, I'd like to run the Subie, if not, we can run the lancia.

bemani 2006-04-19 06:40 PM

I have no problem with GC8.
