Once the 6-speed is in the WRX, the 5-speed gets to chill at the shop for a bit. I have a list of stuff I want to do to the SVX, and I'd like to get it all done at once:

5-speed (WRX 3.545)
dual exhaust (2.25" stainless, 2 cats, 2 resinators, 2 mufflers)
shocks/springs (bilstens, GC perches, eibach springs)

So, once the WRX is all set, I'm gonna try to take care of all of the SVX stuff at once... funds allowing.

As far as the cooler... like I said, I want a remote filter, thermostated, cooler. So I'll probably just do it all at once. And I'd like SS line w/ earl fittings because an oil line failure at a track would probably mean the end of the motor before I even realized it was leaking.

Nice. That SVX is gonna be kick-a** once that stuff is all done. Things like oil coolers spook me enough on daily drivers, let alone track vehicles (I really am thinking of a real oil pressure gauge to go with my oil temp). No open containers allowed during install! Keep the coathangers away, too.

Whats up ART? Been a while.
Does anyone know if the catback will fit my '99 RS?

You'd need the flange modded, but otherwise yes.

What will that take? Time, tools? Know how?

A saw and a welder. Probably .5-1 hour shop time at an exhaust place.

Sounds simple. I'm probably more worried about cost at this point. any ball park figures?

Don't do it, the piping is too big.

What is the downside to oversized piping? The more air you can move the better, right?

JC 2005-03-07 09:21 PM

Not unless you got a turbo on that bitch. You lose back pressure, which loses low-end. The car will drive like shit down low.

There is a limit to that, and on naturally aspirated engines, its about 2.25"-2.5" or so. Beyond that, the bigger exhaust does not flow fast enough and the engine loses low end power.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I just want what is best for my baby. Well I guess that means that I'm looking for something that will help me with my performance and sound. Ideally I would love to have something fabricated so that I could go with a dual exhaust (one left rear, one right rear) but thats just because I've never seen a scoobie w/ that.

Kevin M 2005-03-07 09:48 PM

The dual exhaust is a bad idea perforamnce-wise. It will add a lot of weight without doing aything to make the car faster.

Well, so much for wanting to be original.

ArthurS 2005-03-08 08:20 AM

Everything has been sold but the catback and perrin sway. Everyone makes good points Nick. You probably don't want a 3" on your car.

yep, but you know my desire to tinker with my toys. I do need to pick up some end links for the rear sway I bought from you. I have a question about the a front sway from a WRX, will it fit my 99 RS?

I was worried about that. Oh well. I'll have to find one elsewhere. Thanks.

WRXRallyBlue 2005-03-22 01:39 PM

I might be interested in the sway bar and mounts.

Edit: How much you want?
