Damn! For that price I could ship my wheels, have them powdercoated and shipped back, and still be saving money!
What the fuck is the internet?
The internet is a communications tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another.
Haha, I just went to moviepoopshoot.com, and of course it exists.
^^^Looks good. Pat, does this guy require you to do any prep work on the wheels other than removing the tires?
Just pull the valve stems.
Do they get sand blasted before getting coated? The wheels I'm thinking of doing were previously powdercoated white and I would hate for gold/bronze wheels to chip or scratch and have white showing.
Alright, it looks like $35 per wheel as long as you don't want a metallic color. If he does't have the powder it may be extra, depending on the color.
Your wheels don't have to be clean, just rubber-free; no tires or valve stems. |
Damn, $35 a wheel? That makes me want to go find some wheels to powder coat.
So if Mpresive can dismount and remount/balance tires from my winter rims (stockers) that are sitting in my shed for cheap, I'm totally in 20-30% gloss black sounds good). How long should it take? I would need them done before Thanksgiving.
Pat, I'm in as soon as I get the WRX back from Sac. Hopefully they've got plain white in stock. :D
I think I will wait until spring to do my wheels, I want to go with Blue, for my BBS's. and I don't want to drive around the streets on blue wheels, so one I get my new street 18's, I'm in.
Just dropped off my Sub Zeros. nice looking setup. I'm going with the same black as Pat did because they have a bunch and I don't really care.
While the color selection is varied, in the materials that are appropriate for wheels, they are more limited. You want a thermoset resin with high corosion resistance, durability, and UV resistance. You also want no texture to have a prayer of keeping them clean. I shold have jotted down the powder suppliers they deal with, and maybe we could have found a chart on the Interweb for each. Maybe we should offer to buy Joe a beer and a burger and have him come out to a meet and give us a powdercoating 101 class... |
That price sounds killer! I'm there! Where the hell is this joint anyway!? If they can do bronze, or even a gold a little darker than the STI gold, (little too yellow for me) it's a dont deal!
How do I find them!!?? |

I like to get paid, but I'm always willing to help out a fellow Subi owner! It's all for the greater good! |

How do we do this Pat? |
The powdercoat shop is on Deming Way in Sparks. If you turn left onto Deming from Spice Islands it will be on the left-hand side. Look for the "Advanced Powdercoating" sign .
Go inside and let the nice lady know that you would like to get your wheels powdercoated and that you're a friend of mine. Choose a color and you should be good to go. |

OK, here is one of the color pallets... I got BK08, and Scott is thinking WH08. Some colors are not available in formula approriate for wheel use (High UV and corosion resistance) And as the page says, color rendering is not accurate on most monitors, so look at a real color chart, or preferably, an actual piece of material done in that color...
Cardinal they also carry Dupont, Spraylat, and Tiger/Drylac, but I couldn't easily find any swatches for those, and didn't care since it wasn't what I picked... :P |
I'm thinking T009-BL01 is the bomb...

And Cory went with BR01 for his wheels. Edit: the big thing missing on the online swatches is the gloss/metalic effect many of the colors have. |
I'm bringing mine in tomorrow. :)
