Here is the Marussia MR01. The nose doesn't have the large step in it, that most of the other cars have this year.

WTF?

Kimi either thinks the way the kid's eating that is *really* gay, or he is contemplating beating the kid up 'cause HE wants an ice cream...

I could not stay awake last night and the DVR F'd up. It is so nice that the Internet has 2 Torrents already for the race. Fast one should be done DLing in an hour or so just about when Bristol is done.

A1337STI 2012-03-19 04:18 PM

i fell asleep during the race. woke up and started playing it off the DVR. then i fell asleep again ...

woke up the next day and finished off the race (fell asleep around Lap 38/58 )

I'm starting to think while i Love actually racing, i don't like watching others race... Gonna try to watch a few more and maybe i'll warm up to it... ? (maybe once i start following F1 a bit more, it will be more entertaining to watch)

for those who watch F1 all the time, was this last race a bit boring by F1 standards or about average? could just have been i was really tired / down saturday (missed an RX race in stockton.. bald tires + snow = fail)

sperry 2012-03-19 04:44 PM

I thought the last race was actually quite good. Button sorta ran away up front, but the battle for 2nd-4th was good, and the mid-pack racing was awesome. I'm just bummed so many of the new/young drivers that qualified well got knocked out of the race.

Keep in mind that F1 is not like other series. It's more like a 2 hour, concurrent time-trials. You have to enjoy the nuances of the cars driving alone, or it just doesn't feel very exciting. To be frank, it's an acquired taste I guess. That's what's nice about playing the Fantasy F1 league... if you're not already a big fan, it gives you just 5 drivers to follow during the race. Before you know it, a few races into the season, you know all the drivers and teams and start to really "get" it.

It also helps that the Speed channel crew covering the races are fantastic. You just have to know enough about F1 to understand all the stuff they talk about, but they do a great job of adding to the race by pointing out a lot of the nuances I mentioned earlier.

To put it another way... if my wife can become a fan, anyone can. You just have to give it a shot for a few races, because it's not like NASCAR, or even like Spec Miata or something where there's always a crowd of cars duking it out on track.

Scott, you would really like the UK Sky coverage I watched. Good race coverage plus an hour post post race coverage with all sorts of people and topics.

I wish the feed had gone back and shown us more of what really all happened on the last lap or two. Some weird stuff mid pack.

MattR 2012-03-19 07:09 PM

Yeah, I would like to know what happened to Rosberg, I haven't had time to look it up yet, but it seems like the Pastor shunt really screwed up some days for some people.

A1337STI 2012-03-20 11:28 AM

alrighty. ya I was thinking the same thing that its almost more like watching time trials.. (not much passing or traffic) Think i have my DVR set for the next one (series record mode) hehehe

MattR 2012-04-15 11:54 AM

Okay, the last 15-20 laps of today's China Grand Prix were intense. Tire degradation made the dirty line into a gravel rally course, it was awesome to see drivers taking chances to overtake. There were some legitimate dive-bombs, lots of out-braking, passes on the outside, it was sweet. And what a great win for _____ ______ !!!!

Bob Danger 2012-04-15 01:18 PM

It was epic. You knew the tires where going to give out, but who could hold out the longest.

All those things about F1 being a convoluted time trial was bullshit. China 2012 was basically a NASCAR race ran by open wheel cars on a road course.

The "battle for second" had 6 cars in it for the last 15 laps!!

MattR 2012-04-16 05:30 AM

In comparison, there was NO passing the nascar race Saturday night, the on track action in China was some of the best I've seen

Agreed! That was one of the best endings to a race I have seen in a while

MikeK 2012-04-16 09:51 AM

If they would just get rid of real race tracks like China and Malaysia and stick to awesome street circuits they wouldn't have this problem.

I don't think F1 is street track heavy. Monaco is a tradition... Canada and Melbourne drive like regular circuits... Singapore isn't the greatest for racing, but the track is awesome looking. Really Valencia is the only track that sucks because it's a street course that I would suggest ditching... though I reserve my opinion about the 2013 NY/NJ track, since that will probably also suck for racing.

Damn DVR! There are no torrents I can find yet. It has been on usenet for hours, but Charter's usenet server has a about a 50KB/s throttle, so it will take days to DL. :(

MattR 2012-04-22 09:58 AM

Bahrain race was awesome, and it's being shown again on Speed right now.

Bob Danger 2012-04-22 11:21 AM

I'm surprised how well Kimi is doing. I thought it might take a while for him to get back into the swing, but he's doing well. Lotus Renault is all around looking good this year.

Dean 2012-04-22 02:38 PM

Found a torrent and watching now.

June update from the Circuit of the Americas. First layer of pavement is down for turns 1-12 and 18-20.

Top Gear did an interview with Alain Prost where talks about the current season, and his thoughts regarding the current tires.

Anyone have an opinion on the Vettel penalty?

Seems like Vettel could have stayed on the curb and held the position, or gone over the curb and held the position. Either way, Button was passed... Vettel was well along side him through the whole corner... any contact would have been Button's fault, as Button is required to leave room on exit. So why penalize Vettel for taking the safer line?

Seems silly to apply the rule meant to stop people from cutting chicanes and corners to a guy that decided to use the slippery paint out of concern for getting hit instead of the sticky rubbered-in track.

MattR 2012-07-23 02:48 PM

This is a crap ruling in my opinion. Why is it then okay to run over the curb for a qualifying lap? or to pass a back marker? I think the outside of a corner should be in play, whereas the inside of a corner should be penalized if cut. I don't like the ruling, he had the pass made, he had position, he was trying to keep his momentum and the inside driver has a huge advantage as he can dictate the edge of the track... boo.

Besides, I suck at fantasy F1, and this cost me a ton of points

Nick Koan 2012-07-23 03:28 PM

I agree. This cost me a ton of points too. Instead of having the top 4 drivers, I had to settle for 1,2,3 & 5th.
