Doesn't the new version have a bass?

On PS2 you can play bass in practice or in two player mode. I haven't been able to find anything about playing bass on the 360, other than what I just mentioned.

Or maybe all that is garbage and it's lead guitar and rhythm...

I think that's correct. Sorry, I'm not paying much attention to games these days. . . :P Sometimes at night I can hear my Wii weeping (wiiping?) quietly to itself.

Not yet, but then again I won't have time to install these mods until tomorrow night at the earliest.

Dammit, so you're not playing this yet? :(

I played for a couple of weeks when the game first came out. I haven't tried the v8 mod yet. I don't get a lot of game time these days, I am too busy at work.

Libila 2007-02-12 11:04 PM

I bought Resistance for PS3 and I'm not impressed at all. Aiming is sloppy, lack of rumble really bugs me and makes the game feel numb, they tried to assign too many functions to not enough buttons, graphics aren't that great and the story line is pretty lame.

I'm just glad I didn't pay for this PS3...

JonnydaJibba 2007-02-13 09:00 AM

There isn't rumble on ANY game Tim... I think it's a bad ass game... oh wells.

Nick Koan 2007-02-13 09:15 AM

Yup, no rumble in the PS3 controllers due to lawsuits.

JonnydaJibba 2007-02-13 09:17 AM

Hey, at least you get that bad ass looking F1 game...

100_Percent_Juice 2007-02-13 09:18 AM

resistance is awesome for being an opening game for the ps3. The graphics are awesome, I guess you just need a good tv to show it.

JonnydaJibba 2007-02-13 09:20 AM

I guess I've been lucky. Everytime I have played it, it's been on a 56 inch HD.

I still don't understand that... every console from the N64 on has had rumble. Why now are there licensing concerns?

As I understand it, the company that supposedly holds the patent only filed the claim 3-4 years ago against Sony and Microsoft. The two companies couldn't claim prior art, because the patent was filed before the first controller with built in rumble technology came out. Microsoft settled out of court, and bought a stake in the company. Sony kept fighting it, and was eventually forced to pay a shitload of money and they stopped selling the controllers. And, due to that, they took rumble out of the PS3 controller.

A suit still hasn't been filed against Nintendo, but considering the popularity of the Wii, they might see one soon.

What I don't understand is why the got rid of it completely. There isn't another functioning rumble system in the entire world? There is only this one design?

Nick Koan 2007-02-13 10:02 AM

Actually, I was reading into it more, and it looks like Nintendo's designs are different enough to not warrant a lawsuit. So yeah, there are more ways to do it.

Sony's official line is something that its too expensive and it would interfere with the motion sensing unit. But I dunno, Nintendo seemed to do a good job with vibration and motion sensing in their controller.

JonnydaJibba 2007-02-13 10:06 AM

None of the games I have played for the PS3 so far have used the Sixxas well anyway. In fact, for the games I did play, they had like 3 or 4 times in the entire game that required you to "shake" or do something with the controller. Project 8 you can use the controller to balance and stuff, but that's about it.

MikeK 2007-02-13 10:30 AM

More cars and tracks for GTR2 (page is in ze germans):

If this game is awesome for a launch title then I shouldn't have bothered opening my PS3 until some real games came out. I'm dead serious when I say this, I played the game for three hours and I want to sell it.

Also, I'm playing on a LCD monitor. Maybe it's not the best but the graphics from my computer on the same screen look way better.

Native resolution output from the PC will look *far* better than scaled output from the PS3.

Double Phister 2007-02-13 01:50 PM

I was going to get Resistence. But I downloaded the demo and decided it wasn't for me.

Most of my time is currently on ridge racer 7.

so far the sixaxis stuff has been kinda lame. More games than I originally thought support it. You just have to poke around the menus.

On RR7 you can use it for steering and/or shifting. Shifting isn't very easy to do cuz you have to snap the pitch of the controller up or down. Motorstorm seemed too sensitive to my inputs but that just needs some playtime to get used to.

When I'm finished with RR7 I'm moving on to Motorstorm. I have the demo and it plays pretty good. I'm really waiting for GT5 and GTA.

So far I am really liking the idea of downloading demos. It's confirmed that I want motorstorm, changed my mind on resitence, and confirmed that I don't want to pay for Lemmings.

It would have to pleasure me sexually to deliver $600 (more like $1000 if you buy games and accessories) worth of initial value. If they were $400 I'd have one by now... but not at $600.

Double Phister 2007-02-13 08:08 PM

It looks pretty good on a 1080P display.
I have the HDMI fed into my receiver then HDMI out to the TV.

PS3 is definately selling slow because of the lack of kick ass games. They're already talking about smaller die manufacturing so that should help bring the costs down sometime.

First XBox stole the Oddworld series. Now the Wii has SSX. :cries:

cody 2007-02-13 08:15 PM

Does that mean no new SSX for PS2? :(

Anyone have it?

NevadaSTi 2007-02-14 09:16 AM

I meant Episode 1, LOL.

Been watching the game play vids of Ep2 on You-tube.

Nick Koan 2007-02-14 09:23 AM

I've had Episode 1 since it came out. Its a pretty fun, adds another 6-8 hours of gameplay, and the gameplay is very solid, no filler material. I've been meaning to go back and play it again with the directors commentary turned on, just for fun. Its actually been so long, I don't remember many specifics. But, I do remember the game actually lasting longer than I thought it would. I was pretty wary of the idea of episodic gaming ($20 bucks seemed a lot for what sounded like a short amount of gaming) but in the end I was satisfied. I'm definitely looking forward to Ep2, when it finally comes out.

JonnydaJibba 2007-02-14 09:48 AM

I'm waiting for the Half Life combo pack or whatever to come out for the Box.

Last I read it will be out at the end of the year ... link :(

I am waiting for it too, just because I want team fortress 2.

Nick Koan 2007-02-14 10:09 AM

And Portal also looks pretty sweet. The Episode 2 bundle should be pretty good. the problem is, though, the rumor is since there is so much stuff bundled, they may raise the price to $40.

So, $50 HL2 basic + $20 on Ep1 + $40 on Ep2 + $20 on Ep3 (maybe more) versus $60 for HL2 Orange with all the same stuff on X360.

But then again, I'm still a purist who doesn't like to play FPS games on a console.

JonnydaJibba 2007-02-14 10:20 AM

Yeah, mouse and keyboard is always better, but I have gotten used to playing FPSs with a controller. And I think the developers have figured out how to keep the controls tight. Most of the console shooters I have played didn't bother me.

I know, I hate it! They keep pushing release dates back farther and farther. Forza 2, BioShock, Half-Life 2, Halo 3. They better be doing good things with all that extra time.

Also I do like the direction they are going with the design of TF2.

Double Phister 2007-02-14 10:37 AM

I have HL2:EP1 I liked it. I was recently playing a mod called Coastline to Atmosphere. It's friggen hard. Then I blew up my machine when I put 64bit vista on and forgot about my saved games. oops.

BTW. the commentary in EP1 is mostly at the very beginning. I liked the commentary in Lost Coast better because it contained more technical info.

M3n2c3 2007-02-14 09:48 PM

Lost Coast hoses my rig. :(

I nearly started frothing at the mouth when I found out HL2:ep2 got bumped to october. I can deal with all the other stuff changing dates, but ep2 is the one I want now.

M3n2c3 2007-02-18 09:49 PM

Speaking of HL2 Ep1, does anyone else run into a hang error while loading a game from the title screen? It hangs at about 2/3 loaded.

nope.

Core 2 Duo E6600
1GB RAM
ATI X1950X (1600x1200 all in game video settings maxed)
Vista Ultimate x64
Experience score:
5.2 stock (2.4GHz)
5.7 mild air overclock (2.9GHz)

Previous system was a P4 1.8GHz with 512MB RAM, ATI radeon 9800pro on WinXP. It didn't have that problem either. Video was set to 1024x768 with most settings in the middle.

M3n2c3 2007-02-19 03:43 PM

It hangs on me if I have it running in DX9. Judging by the Valve forums, it's not an uncommon problem on ATI notebook GPUs.

Forcing DX8.1 seems to fix it, so I guess I'll have to give up some of my fancy water reflections. . . :P

Nick Koan 2007-02-19 05:43 PM

Ooh, Titan Quest expansion pack due in the first week of March and Oblivion expansion pack due towards the end of March.

I think I'm actually looking forward to the Titan Quest expansion more than the Oblivion one. Both look cool, but I've still got such a bad taste in my mouth about Oblivion.

<-----is all about Elder Scrolls :P

Nick Koan 2007-02-20 11:38 AM

Oh, I loved Daggerfall and Morrowind.

But the scaled leveling in Oblivion kind of ruined it for me. I went up in levels too fast with non-combat primary skills, and now all the monsters are about 5 levels higher than my combat skills are. And in my opinion, the story in Oblivion is a little more bland than the past.
