Yup, lots of good driving today. Van, nice job winning your class today. :disco: |
Nice job Matt. I didn't know I hit a cone on my 4th run. Neither of my sub 40 second runs counted hehe...oh well.

That's for sure. I'm definitely not complaining. It was a blast, I'm more than happy with my car (and me driving it! hehe), and I drove it home when we were finished. A win, win, win day for sure.

Congrats to all our top PAX guys too! |

Thanks for the Co-Drive Kevin. Hope you got something out of it and that the tire is easily repaired. I was thinking we should have just thrown the flat into Cory's car if he is doing the repair... Doh... |
Damn Vic! I will get that 1st in Pax one of these days...!!
:D |
Not if I don't keep coning mine away! :p

You're a double negative.

I'm trying to talk myself out of switching back to BSP... going into the season, I thought we had done away with pax for the year, but since we did not... it might be a lot of fun to battle it out for pax...hmmm... any input?
|
do it Matt, we need more subies at the top of pax. i think when i come up that's the class ill be running:cool:

Considering you were the only non-kart in the top 4 last year, and it's possible the Burns will not spend as much time up here since they have Mather to run at this year, it could be verrryyy interesting. |
No, my car is BSP legal as it sits...I just usually run SM because it's a large class.
|
You'd still have Cory, Bob and Dave to run with in the SP group.
|
go BSP !!
our region needs more classes with cars prepared to the max (or closer to maxing out their cars) :D that way the rest of us can see a little more clearly how we are actually driving (via pax) !! do it! and a silvio Vs Mat roy Vs ?? battles could be sweet. |

arg i still need tires and an alignment. Think i'll go el cheapo route and go with the Z1s :( as i'm going to need brake pads shortly as well
My revalved dampers feel and sound better than the old 90K mile ones hehe |
About time. You've been clunking in the rear for ages.

Odi @ Fealsuspension.com "revalved" them, i think its an insert kit that he custom creates.
But Dyno, they FEEL so much better, car doesn't feel nearly as "springy / bouncy" bumps are a tiny bit more jarring to run over now. the non stop clunking is gone (for now) Really need a timed racing event to test them out properly. my cars usual balance (oceans of understeer at the limit) is not changed, but it feels easier to transfer weight around. Car still has a healthy amount of Roll Dive and Pitch , almost like the struts allow the first little bit to happen easily but right the rest of the movement :?: Feels great LMK if you want to have a little test drive. I just ordered the cheaper Khumo Escta XS tires in a 255/40/17 (i'll be needing brake pads by mid summer) figured i'de save the budget if i wasn't going Advan AD08s .. plus being the only guy out there on the XS it can be a great excuse , for me if i'm losing, or for anyone else i manage to beat. |
You coming out this weekend, Alex? Nick in the Saabaru too? Is he still going to run ESP?
|
I'm looking forward to seeing you guys this saturday!! I was disappointed when I found out the first event was the same weekend as NHRA in LV, I already had my tickets.
How is the competition between everyone this season? Looks like from some previous posts it is going to be a fun season :) |
Yep i'll be coming out , I need to try and get an alignment still .. guess the KS Shop won't have an alignment rack yet, guess i can bug the guys at C&C :)
|
Sweet.
So I've heard that I can run up to 5mm spacers without needing longer lug studs. True? Could I run them only in the front without adversley affecting anything? I want to run more neg. camber up there but there's no more room between the strut and the tire. How much more neg. camber could I run with the spacers? Somebody has to love geometry here. :P |

As far as an answer, imagine you've got 5mm more space between the wheel and strut, and now imagine tipping the wheel into that space. Without having an exact drawing of your suspension geometry, the size of the struts, the size of the wheels/tires, etc you're going to be able to guess much more accurately having actually looked at the problem first hand than anyone on the boards. As far as running spacers... I don't think I'd run any sized spacer without an extended lug bolt. Every mm you space the wheel is a mm less threads you're not using since the stock lug bolts are pretty short to begin with. I've heard 3mm is okay, but 5mm is pushing it. To be frank, the "right" solution is coilovers and/or different offset wheels. Though some adjustable top mounts would get you there with your existing wheels and struts, since they allow camber adjustment without changing the strut/wheel clearance. |
Supposedly I'm running -1.8 in the front, but it sure doesn't look like I'm running much at all, and my car understeers pretty bad. I can drive around it though. Guess I could always try loosening my front sway and/or stiffening the rear struts.
Yep, I'm on stock struts with Koni inserts. Running 245/40/17's. On one side, I can see that the tire is close enough to clean the dust off of one spot on the strut body. I also can't turn to full lock without hitting the fender liner, but I don't mind that since I only use these tires for autocross. I can get as much as -3 or so of neg. camber in the front with my camber bolt setup. I'm guessing it's not worth buying spacers and getting a new alignment since I'd probably only gain a tenth or so of neg. camber. Camber plates are a good option, but meh, they always seem so expensive. I really wanted RPF1's with the 45 offset but the 48 offset 5Zigen FN01R-C's were available for the right price... |
I've heard the rule of thumb for Lug stud thread is you need 1.5 X the width of the lug, as the length of available thread, I've ran wheel spacers on my STI and nothing broke or fell off :) Mine may have only been 3mm or something low though. I've ran them on my rally car as well with out any issues (have more thread to work with on that one though)

When did you move to Illinois? :p
|
ill be there sat or sun not sure which one, but ill be there for a day at least:D
cody are you for real? |
bleu cheese?
|
the blue cheese wagon... i dig it! :)
|
Looks like I was wrong about how close the tire is to the strut body. I mistook the clean spot on the strut to indicate the tire was super close when mounted, but when I swapped wheels, I realized that's just from when I wiggle the wheels onto the lug studs. I actually can fit a finger between them.
So what's the consensus, 3mm spacers, just in the front, but go back to steel lugs to compensate? I run aluminum lugs now. I'd like to add the spacers to get some more room before an alignment. |
You're probably fine without spacers.

congrats cody on top pax! had alot of fun:D, thanks to everybody that made it happen

Frickin' Cody and his crazy banzai runs. During 4th run group I was at station 3 with Bob Williamson watching Cody on his last run. He came flying through the slalom, and I turned to Bob and said "I think Cody is about to win PAX."
Being right sucks sometimes. |
Good jobs SECCS, you guys killed PAX.
