Gas piston AR = overrated, seriously. And overpriced.

None of mine ever give trouble.

Plus, both of the problems mentioned would have occurred exactly the same in a gas piston upper.

Scotty is right. The system is pretty cool, however all it does is add extra weight and complexity to an already simple design. KISS = keep it simple stupid.

My carbine weights in around 10 pounds, if I put a piston upper on it, it would probably come in around 12 pounds. Doesn't sound like much, but when you pick up a 9-10lbs rifle, then a 12-14lbs rifle you will feel the difference. My deer rifle weights 9lbs 6oz unloaded. Loaded it is close to 10lbs. You carry that rifle all day long, and it feels like it weights 30lbs!

Went to a pretty big match over the weekend, two days of shooting. The NorCal Tactical Bolt Rifle Challenge involved shooting from 75yds to 1000yds, all with tightly timed strings. All sorts of scenarios were present, some more challenging than others.

I took my new(er) .308 M40A1 with a new load and no real LR practice, and still got 15th place in a field of 42 finishers. People from all over the west coast all the way to TX were there to share in the $30k+ prize table. I essentially won $800 in prizes, so travel, fees, and ammo got paid for.

There were some serious military shooters participating, some of which are current instructors. It was pretty cool to be shooting right with them. I'm still waiting to get pics of me, but I took plenty myself and put them here: Match Photo Album

Wow! That's a pretty impressive finish in the standings. Where was the event held? Congratulations! I enjoyed the pics, what is the event class/name for shooting from the back seat of a Lincoln?

Military Rifle Silhouette today: winnar!

Total: 27
Double Handicap: shot both the 100m Chickens and the 200m Pigs offhand (due to previous scores)
Rings: 4 Rams did not go down, I was testing a different bullet - center hits, though, my score should have been a 31!

100m Chickens: 7
200m Pigs: 8
385m Turkeys: 8
500m Rams: 4

Almost cleaned the Pigs, missed the last two.....yuck. Not bad considering I hadn't shot the gun in 3 months.
