What tires are you running on the white beast

MikeK 2006-04-02 05:25 PM

That was a good day today ... until Matt ruined it by beating us all with a 55.8!! :)

I also saw a lot of the newbies lowering their times this afternoon. Awesome job!

SpecB#127 2006-04-02 05:26 PM

You all looked like you were having way too much fun today. Shame on me for not having a babysitter, or I could have joined in and given you all a laugh by spinning a LGT out in the rain.

It was awesome to see Subarus stomp on that Porsche and Z06. Good driving guys!

cody 2006-04-02 05:48 PM

My car deserves a better driver, but I had so much fun. Thanks for the instruction Dean, Kevin, and Scott. http://images.google.com/images?q=tb...ilies/beer.gif

I made page 7 of the March newsletter.

I'm easily amused, it's true.

Kevin M 2006-04-02 06:54 PM

Dude, not only is that in the newsletter, that's the flyer we're using to recruit people to our safe, low-risk PDEs and Club Trials at RFR.

Kevin M 2006-04-02 06:55 PM

Good job today by the way guys- pretty much everyone came out, had fun, and made rapid progress. You'll all be pros by the end of the season. :)

Are you referring to my RS? I have a very worn set of re070s on that are a couple days away from being replaced by a brand-spankin new set of rt615s.

I'm switching a bit prematurely because I need something that's a little more daily-driver safe in the tread department. The re070s still have a few events left in 'em, so I'm gonna try and get Cory to take 'em off my hands and run the life out of them.

What can I say, I had a great couple of runs today. The car is the best it's ever been.

Anyway, I was again very impressed with the Seccs Crew, it's greta to have everyone out there. Now, make sure you're there next weekend. Your's Truly Matt R and Sperry are in charge, and the course will be SWEEEEEEEET!

Dean 2006-04-02 08:44 PM

Turn out was great. Glad everyone had fun.

Thanks all who let me play inthere cars. I had a blast driving 10 or so different cars this weekend. Much more fun than driving mine.

For all you noobs, you did a great job. Glad all of us could help. Don't hesitate to ask us to ride with you, or to ask for rides. At the same time, no one is/should be offended if someone wants to drive alone.

If you run in the morning, and somebody else runs in the afternoon, don't be surprised to have a bunch of wanna be ridders, I mean instructors... :)

Some of you couple season guys are getting fast. It's getting real hard to match or beat your times in your cars with only a run or two, but it sure is fun to try. :)

Keep your eyes moving, and your hands and feet slow and you will be fast.

Have a great season. Hope to see you all next weekend for more fun.

MPREZIV 2006-04-03 06:44 AM

Thank you EVERYONE! It was an awesome time! I don't think I've ever had that much fun for only 35 bucks!!!!!

I really appreciate all the help that everyone gave. Everybody who rode in my car, or drove, (Dean) really helped my along! I learned a LOT, and saw improvement in my car control, and thus, my times!

Thank you all again! See you there next Saturday!

doubleurx 2006-04-03 08:10 AM

Sounds like you all had great fun. My weekend was toast so hopefully I can make it to a couple of these events.

cody 2006-04-03 08:32 AM

I won't have my car next Saturday, but if sombody will give me a ride from my house downtown, I'd like to come out and work. Is that allowed?

So you want to work and not run? I'm gonna have to say that's hardcore.

cody 2006-04-03 08:37 AM

 Dude, I had a lot of fun working the stations.

A1337STI 2006-04-03 08:41 AM

Wow what a great weekend ! :) I had a great time ! definatly a good value!! Its cool to see so many sports cars all in 1 place. Thanks a LOT to everyone for helping me. i don't quite have everyone's name straight and i had a lot of help. help with changing my tires, Tire pressure, leaving the spare tire out, tire chalk, Lines, hand placement , where to look, etc. I had quite a few instructors (THANKS) and Mike sure drove my car really really fast. WOW i asked to see what the car could do and he sure showed me. (think i'm still in awe of what a great driver can do with my car)
So we can have instructors in our cars for runs that count for points? :) sweet. I'de like as much instruction as i can get please ! I really learned a lot, but mostly i learned how much i Don't know. I was a bit suprized and humbled @ my lack of driving skills. lots of Grow room i supose :) can't wait until next weekend :) :)

Pretty cool to read these posts, reminds me of how it was when it was new and helps boost my own enthusiasm level as well. Be sure to pass along a thank you to the event chairs & organizers as well, it takes alot of effort to put these events on, and is always nice to hear the effort was appreciated.

Also, for those of you that are interested in the inner workings of SCCA and would like to participate in running the club, the 1st wednesday of every month is the SCCA General Meeting. 6pm at Austin's Restaurant (corner of Longley & S. Virginia).

This wednesday is the next meeting! Be aware however that the meeting can get laden down in boring club minutia on occation, but if you think you can take a little boredom feel free to show up and voice your input to the club. The SCCA is in dire need of some "fresh blood" and new ideas from new autocrossers. We'd love to see some of you new drivers take more than a passing interest in the organization.

The Reno SCCA chairs & organizers rock!

I'm sure you'll have no problem getting a lift to the site next weekend, and if you're lucky you can find somebody to let you co-drive...

And yeah, workign without running is pretty hardcore. You rule.

A1337STI 2006-04-03 09:50 AM

Sent Patty a thank you email (was the first contact on the reno scca page)

did anyone else get really sun burned out there or just me ?

cody 2006-04-03 10:07 AM

I got sunburnt on Saturday...no so much on Sunday, but I didn't show up until 11:30 am.

Would I have to pay if I only worked and co-drove? I didn't get to ride along with any of you pros...seems like a good idea.

sperry 2006-04-03 10:15 AM

I didn't get sunburnt (sun-screen FTW) but I did get a pretty decent case of wind-burn on Saturday... Sunday not so much.

No, if you co-drive you have to pay. Working is free.

A1337STI 2006-04-03 11:07 AM

my forehead, nose and checks are RED . Very RED. i kept waking up last night . aaah sun screen. yes, uv goes through clouds. DOH :( and wow you rock Cody , goes out to work! LMK if you need a ride i can leave from tahoe a few minutes early and pick you up... i'll maybe think about letting you drive my car... :~: not sure if on dual driver cars if you can boot 1 driver and grab an instructor or if both drivers have to ride in that vehical every run. not sure about how much clutch abuse i want to subject my lil subaru to

Does anyone have a link or some info on how points work? I don't expect to be winning any points yet (i'm sorta assuming only top 3 or 5 get points but maybe everyone gets some no matter where you finish) But i would love to know how the points system works.

MPREZIV 2006-04-03 11:08 AM

what's this sun-burn crap? I hardly saw the sun, let alone enough for someone to get burned. or so I thought!

A1337STI 2006-04-03 11:18 AM

I haven't been out in the sun (with out helmet and snowboard googles) since last summer, and just wasn't thinking to use sun block or use a hat. And you don't need to see the sun, UV rays go right through clouds, I'm just too pale for this latitude and altitude.

I feel the urge to draw a diagram of UV rays penetrating cloud cover and striking red faced Anglo-Saxons while Corey looks on unscathed. :P

MPREZIV 2006-04-03 11:27 AM

that must really be the case... I am fully aware that UV rays go through clouds, but didn't know that it would still be so bad that one could burn!

Damn, you white dudes have it worse than I thought!

With two driver cars, you can run with or without the other driver in the car, or take anybody else, it's up to the two of you. Most people will copilot for the first few runs, and get 2-3 solo runs to go after the points. It's a nice advantage actually, provided your brakes and tires can withstand the extra heat- which yours can. Being able to compare notes and strategy with someone driving the same course in the same car helps.

Points are pretty simple- clicky for last year's results. 21 points for 1st, 16 for second, 14 for third, 12 for 4th, then -1 for each successive place. You always get one point for competing, regardless of the number of finishers.

cody 2006-04-03 11:40 AM

What's the difference between points and points with drops?

MikeK 2006-04-03 11:53 AM

Over the course of a year you get to drop your 4 worst results. i.e. for a competition with 16 rounds, only your best 12 results will count towards your final points tally

cody 2006-04-03 11:59 AM

So "no-shows" count as drops right?

Also, how do "Novice" points transfer if you decide to start competing in a real class mid season? I think you guys were saying they were transferable IIRC.

A1337STI 2006-04-03 02:04 PM

So if i understand everything correctly.
1) Codriven cars, or single driven cars, may elect to have anyone for a ride along?
2) Only Solo Runs count for points ?

Nick Koan 2006-04-03 02:35 PM

any run counts for points (except for run-no-points).

but, you can have passengers along and score points.

Joeyy 2006-04-03 03:45 PM

Are the run schedules for the weekends set in stone? I may have to work on some afternoons but would love to run in the mornings so would not have any drop weekends. April and May it will not matter but June and July I may only be able to run in the A.M. Don't want to wine but I have to pay the bills.

For class points, you do not get 1 point regardless of place, though there are very few classes with more than 10 competitors at an event so getting 0 class points is rare.

In PAX, the scale is 21,19,18,17,16... down to 1, then 1 point for every competitor thereafter.

Yeah, they're set. Unfortunately, if you can't be at the track during your scheduled run group and work the appropriate session, you can't get points. You could still run RNP in the morning if you wanted though.

On occation drivers have asked their class competitors if they'd allow 'em to run out of class in the morning for situations like that.

Unless there's a chance of afternoon only rain, usually people don't have a problem with it, but you have to make sure to bring it up the event before w/ your competition, and realize that if someone later decides to protest your out of class runs, it will more than likely be upheld.

I believe you have to request permission from the event chair as well.
