Lots of donkeys out up here at the lake yesterday. Passed a stuck car, then a stuck SUV on dubs  on my way up Country Club drive, then right after that witnessed an accident. SUV slid around a corner and hit head on into the ford ranger in front of me... Glad I always try to leave extra space

WRX06TR 2009-12-29 11:46 PM

Anybody know someone in town that beats Tirerack prices for snows?

cody 2009-12-30 09:02 AM

Discount Tire? Costco?

Kevin M 2009-12-30 11:24 AM

It's hard to find. Maybe you can talk Sid into a discount for you, but around here pretty much everyone that gets tires that TR sells gets them direct from them, so they're all the same price.

On the other hand, it's almost January and you are just now buying snow tires. Good luck with that.

khail19 2009-12-30 05:33 PM

Costco only has Michelins for snow tires, so still pretty pricey. When I was shopping 2 months ago, it was cheaper for Dunlops at TR, than for Hankooks at Discount Tire.

Kevin M 2009-12-30 05:49 PM

Do DT or Big O have the cheapo generics? Not as good as Revo1s or Dunlops, but better than any all seasons.

Yeah, well the WRX has Blizzaks on it and it is being sold with them...the STi has Azenis on it and I am not driving those in the rain, let alone the snow

Since we're supposed to get 6 inches + in Stead tonight and I have to drive Amanda to work (leaving earlier and driving out to Moana), I expect tomorrow won't be so pleasant of a commute.

Crazy.. 3 hours? really? wtf  that's Insane!

Worst i've had so far is about 80 minutes this winter. Think it took me 90 minutes once last winter to go up in my 93 FWD, all seasons and open diff. spooner was a worry cause i knew if i had to stop i wouldn't get going until the snow melted. Normally it takes me 1 hour flat .

The only part of my drive where i get caught driving with lots of massively under prepared drivers is the washoe flat. Even though its completely flat and straight i've seen a few car accidents there just this winter already!

Spooner seems to scare off most of the non 4wd/awd snow tire peeps and generally the slowest traffic going up is still doing 30-35. I'll do the limit up or down in the snow. esp with studded snows. just have to watch out for slushy and glare ice conditions. but packed snow i just set the cruise control at my normal commute rate.

A1337STI 2009-12-30 08:02 PM

oh discount tire hooked me up with studded snows 175/70/13 @ about $6 under the tire rack price :O ... but it also looks like it will be a total of 2 weeks before they arrive. lolz. and i'm not having them mounted there, they are a lil too pricey at $20 a pop.

As soon as I have a title and actually own the car and once it gets a long overdue wash and good cleaning I will post pics

Sears beat tire racks price for my blizzaks.

General Altimax Arctic are my new favorite cheap snow tire. 78 a piece, most places have them. I'm over Blizzaks and such since I wear them past the good grippy part too fast.

Kevin M 2010-01-02 11:39 AM

You should try the premium "winter performance" tires like Dunlop 3Ds instead of the pure studless ice and snows. They last longer, but don't give up all that much. I think my Dunlops were only like $90 apiece last year.

That is the same reason I went with the Hankook W400s. I wanted something that didn't suck as a A/S summer tire when they wore down.

That's actually the reason why I picked up my Falkens.

I'm just glad I cleared the 4-6" last night, or it would have been too much for my blower.

Craftsman 179cc 24" path Two-stage Snowblower Was $599.99 now $299.99 in cart w/ Craftsman Club!

Dean 2010-01-03 08:16 PM

Nice, but still probably twice what a cheap bastard is willing to pay.

Nick Koan 2010-01-18 10:39 PM

I don't think think donkeys will be dumping much tonight, but what they do dump is going to be super slick tomorrow morning.

Dean 2010-01-19 07:03 AM

Not that bad here in the old south west. <1"

doubleurx 2010-01-19 08:53 AM

24" at my house. The schools are closed and I am home with the kids. Looks like we are getting another foot today and supposedly a really big storm tomorrow.

Nick Koan 2010-01-19 08:59 AM

It ended up not coming down nearly as bad as expected in Reno. The roads were super slick at 10:30 last night, but I guess it kinda petered out sometimes last night.

Kevin M 2010-01-19 11:05 AM

Yeah, about 11.

Dean 2010-01-20 01:44 PM

Big wet flakes coming down pretty hard. Be careful on your drive home tonight folks.

sperry 2010-01-20 01:49 PM

It's just showering off and on here at IGT. Just on the cusp between rain and snow.

I hear the sierra is getting hammered right now though.

Kevin M 2010-01-20 03:07 PM

It's coming down as heavy snow here, but not sticking to the wet pavement just yet. Grass and dirt are sticking though.

left footed whooten 2010-01-22 09:44 AM

This has been an ideal storm system as it pretty much stayed in teh mountains and didn't disrupt life too greatly here in the valley... A little slick this morning, but nothing too crazy. Those pictures are awesome...I envy you mountain people

left footed whooten 2010-01-22 09:52 AM

Hey, you're only 35 min away....

cody 2010-01-22 09:55 AM

Nothing will keep me from snowboarding tomorrow. Nothing! :)

100_Percent_Juice 2010-01-22 12:32 PM

Hey Cory, did this past week bring you any presents in the form of Nissans with folded suspensions?

I found this oddly entertaining and I'm not exactly sure why.

MPREZIV 2010-01-25 07:28 AM

In fact, it did not...

He did a 180 right behind me and I just saw a big puff of snow as he plowed into the ditch, and then I watched his taillights fade in the rearview as I continued on my way. I couldn't be mad after that haha

You were doing 70 on snow?

Dean 2010-05-10 04:01 PM

Bump...

28 degrees and dumping at my place. Who washed their car this weekend?

I kind of like these mid60s-70s weekends and weekday storms.

Nick Koan 2010-05-10 04:02 PM

I thought about changing to my summer tires this weekend, which with my luck means this weather is probably my fault.

sperry 2010-05-10 04:07 PM

Shit, I can't put my snow tires back on if I wanted to... they don't clear the new brakes!

A1337STI 2010-05-10 04:18 PM

I put my snow tires back on my STI last week. Though I'm just trying to preserve my Khumos for Autox, didn't expect that i'de really have any Need for them..

Dean you wouldn't prefer nicer weather mid-week so you can get out and enjoy it with less tourists around? and then storms on the weekends when its time to stay in from the tourists? hehe

WRX06TR 2010-05-10 04:23 PM

I found out the inside shoulder on my RE070's was trashed, so I switched to my snows on Friday, I didn't think I would need them either.

cody 2010-05-10 04:24 PM

I haven't had snow tires on since the first autox. Maybe the gods got confused when I swapped the Starspecs to the Sport Maxx's last night. :?:

Dean 2010-05-10 05:16 PM

False alarm? Now sunny and 48 degrees. Welcome to the high Sierras.

GusGus91 2010-05-10 05:28 PM

It's probably my fault.. I just bought new summer tires. :-/

Today was the first time I saw the "don't like the weather? wait 15 minutes" joke about Reno weather happen literally. At 5:00 it I could barely see the hill outside my window through the snow... at 5:15 I had to tilt the blinds because of the sunlight in my eyes. :unamused:

I just want some goddamn spring weather!

I think spring was in March this year. It lasted about 6 hours.
