Wait, the corvette guys are still complaining even though there is a BSP Corvette at the top of the pack? On race tires, no less.

It will always be that way...There are actually two arguements over "fairness" right now...And we've beat this to death on this board many times.

#1 Street tire is unfair. Many race-tire runners feel it's not fair that they get beat in their class by cars with a street tire modifier. They also feel the street tire index if unfair for race tire participants. Yes a Corvette on race tires is killing everyone. Also, as the first Sti to run stickies full time, I can honestly say that I believe there is NO advantage to the street tire cars...Race tire cars ARE getting a fair deal with the Street Tire pax. The problem is, some Reno region drivers don't have fuly prepped cars and/or the drivers are not fast enough.

#2 Altitude index. Basically, higher horsepower cars have a significant advantage over lower power cars at this altitude. There is a movement to adopt a seperate Pax-liek scoring program that awards lower power and brings down highewr power cars. Never mind that fact that a Miata in CSP from Sac whooped up on everyone a few events back.

As Dean, Myself, and others have said...SHUT UP and DRIVE FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the answer

Pax is pax is pax, and if we don't like it, we don't have to play here.
I'm not convinced about #1; as an experiment I could get a better idea by switching to RE01R's, but that takes away from focusing on race tires, which I need to do to be as competitive as possible at national events. That said - I am very tempted to switch to Mark's car and run STU, yokohamas ftw.

With respect to the High Altitude Pax discussion, I was initially doubtful that anyone could come up with something that might be fair. But to be fair to this concept, it's not just about bringing high horsepower cars down to low horsepower car performance levels, I saw that there is some real math behind the concept -- that there is a known percentage of performance loss based on altitude. Just wish we had the ability to test all of this out the right way, but I don't see that we ever will.

Kevin M 2007-05-11 02:17 PM

Basically, unless we get a bunch of different cars (multiple models from almost every class) and they all go to the same sea level dyno and the same high-altitude dyno, it's all bench racing.

Dean 2007-05-11 03:54 PM

The out of towners prove that creating any localized handicapping system is a futile effort. The car preparation and driver proficiency level is not consistent enough to base any mathematical system on our results.

I enjoy driving and teaching... I really don't care what class I run in as long as I have fun.

All the whiners can just, well, my sig says it all.

Have there been any changes made to run groups for this weekend?

Nick Koan 2007-06-07 02:53 PM

For this weekend, nothing will be happening (except for maybe the day-of shuffles during the sessions)

I'll let Matt go into more detail if he wants to, but SM will probably be moving to the Yellow Run group for the July event onward.

Joeyy 2007-06-10 06:57 PM

How did the SM battle come out this weekend? I like the switch in run groups. Now I can watch the battle between the big dogs.

MikeK 2007-06-10 07:53 PM

Dean, Me, Scott, Cory. Somehow I think Dean is going to walk away with SM this year, unless Matt makes good on his threat to switch over from BSP

MPREZIV 2007-06-11 06:34 AM

If Matt switches over, I'm kickin' him in the JUNK! Dammit, I've got a pretty good hold on 4th place, and he's gonna F that up for me!

I believe, that if you invert your Token magnet you'll have the POWER to beat the blue beast.

Results are up at Reno SCCA!:)

Kevin M 2007-06-12 01:14 PM

Dangit... Cory bumped me into the pity points in PAX on Sunday.

Dean 2007-06-12 01:41 PM

I personally like that John Perry on Street Tires beat Randy Jones on race tires Sunday in PAX.

Dang, Matt got me Sunday. Cheater BSP PAX... :)

Man, I thought Saturday's .090 difference couldn't get any closer. I was wrong. .005 is much closer than that :p

I really could have used at least one win this weekend. C'est la vie. Good competition though. I'm loving it this year.

I thought that phrase was banned on this board?

Man, It's going to take a lot of work to hold down a top 10 in pax this year.

I think I'm on the outside looking in but what if? In 3rd, we have John Burns(kart driver) w/ two drops. In 4th, we have Ken Yeo (driving up from Sac) w/three drops. In 11th, we have Gary Starr w/ three drops. In 14th, we have Al Patterson w/ five drops and last but not least in 15th, we have Jay Williams (kart driver) w/ four drops.

If the drivers that I just mentioned are taken out of the mix with drops (over four), that puts Vic Chalk into 10th and I have an outside chance of getting to him. Wow, what a stretch!..

I checked the Sacramento schedule and found no conflicts with ours.:( Maybe the karts will go to some national event or something.

That didn't happen by accident.
