Again, that contradicts what people who are actually in charge (most importantly, Wes) have told me several times. Wes in particular has told me that not only can I have somebody sub for me at any time, but I can also have somebody help me (or the sub) out as their worker assignment.

I'm really surprised that both you and Van are second guessing that. If you don't like it, take it up with the board or whatever, but don't try and make my volunteer position harder than it needs to be.

Like it or not, Waivers is a two person job.

Dean 2010-05-25 08:32 PM

Cody, I think Kevin and Van are volunteering to help you. At least that is what I read. :)

cody 2010-05-25 08:50 PM

Haha. :)

MikeK 2010-05-25 09:18 PM

I nominate Cody for timing chief

dknv 2010-05-26 07:30 AM

Because of low turnouts last year, the waivers work assignment for the entire day was handled by 1 person? It sounds to me that it wasn't a formal operational change, it was done based on need.

I was one of the people who encouraged Cody to seek out waivers workers ahead of time; especially since sometimes Cody may not be able to be at the site at 7am; and finding someone before the event to handle that shift was better planning.

Also keep in mind, this is a good work assignment for someone who is not able to physically handle course worker assignment (and is not trained to do one of the other non-running assignments). That, and timing slips.

Kevin M 2010-05-26 11:50 AM

Actually, last season we frequently didn't have anybody doing the job at all. Usually it was just the 3rd person helping at the Reg table who was technically doing the job. And in case I was unclear, it's certainly not required for Cody to do the job for more than one work group. My comment was just that I think it will be infrequent for a while that we can have more than one person on the assignment given our turnouts so far this season, especially in the afternoon.

cody 2010-05-26 12:34 PM

My limited understanding is that some new regs have come down from Nationals that make the waivers process much more strict than previous years. That's why the waivers station has been moved to the entrance, and more people have been allocated to the role. It may not be what everyone likes, but it's reality.

WRXlerate 2010-05-27 01:06 PM

Looks like the weather is going to hold out for this weekend!! According to weather.com:
Saturday: Abundant sunshine. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 40s.
Sunday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 70s and lows in the low 50s.
Bring the sunblock, I didn't and got fried at the last event even though it was cold out, lesson learned.

A1337STI 2010-05-27 03:58 PM

i heard on the radio this morning sun block was found to increase your chances for skin cancer...

do i get a sun burn, and possible cancer later?
or not get burned and possible cancer later. guess since i don't like sun burn and gonna get cancer either way...

damn i want Saturday has the bigger temp swing (day i run in the morning) ARG!

Oh i wasn't sure. didn't know if you didn't want to mount a 255 on a X8 rim, or if it was fender clearance .. as i've put 225's on my rally car before (spec ford racer tire) and they were wide for a 225, but seemed to have GOBS of extra room. I think i could fit a 255 or 265 on the 93 (random speculation )

and i **think** a 93 & 01 have basically the same fender arches.. so i was thinking maybe your car could too..

tires fitting easy on the 93 could have a lot to do with my car being raised though... and the 17's vs 13's ...

MPREZIV 2010-05-27 06:36 PM

Yeah, the ride height would make a considerable difference. Oh, and I'm SURELY not afraid of mounting a 255 on an 8" wide rim... I've put 285's on an 8 inch rim before! I'm the fuckin' tire MASTER! ;)

A1337STI 2010-05-27 09:34 PM

285 on a 17? did that screw the steering response or what? ... wow that doesn't even seem possible is that waht Debbie had on a while back? hehe

Kevin M 2010-05-27 09:36 PM

Debbie has 285/30s on 18x8 SSRs.

MPREZIV 2010-05-28 07:25 AM

Yeah, it was Debbie's.

(what Kevin said)

A1337STI 2010-05-28 08:36 AM

 now that's some extreme fitment  maybe i need to step up to some 275s then?

 And not just any 285, a V710 285, that 99.9% of other installers gave up on.
You came up in conversation this past weekend at the Wendover ProSolo. Our CS class was waiting to run, and was talking about the pain of installing wider tires. The class leader (who works at a tire shop) said it took him a week to get the v710 245's installed the first time, and while he figured out the tricks for that size and later was able to do them fairly quick, he never did try the 285's. Then he pointed to me, and said my tire installer was one of two in the country that was able to do it. The other drivers were suitably impressed. :)

Alex - those tires were awesome, especially at sites like Hawthorne.

Just because you could cram all that tire on the wheel, doesn't give you the fender clearance needed to use them.

Debbie's driving an RX-8... totally different suspension geometry and fender clearance compared to an STi, though I have heard of people getting as wide as 275's on stock class autocross STis... I just don't know what the hell they're doing with their alignment/shocks to make that happen. My guess is they're running shock so stiff they're basically bypassing the springs.

Totally self-indulgent statement for the seccs crew, but Congratulations to Matt for winning today's PAX game, followed by Alex, Cody, Vic, Cory, Kevin M, with MikeK-who-hasn't-run-for-a-year within the top 10; and if my calcs are correct, Silvio, who ran out of class this morning, would have placed 8th!

Great job everyone!

Dean 2010-05-29 07:24 PM

Looking for a coaching/co-drive in the AM...

Mike is sleeping in. Any class is fine as I am not really running for season points.

WRX06TR 2010-05-29 07:42 PM

I may come out tomorrow. I think I fixed my car. I was missing the rubber stopper under the accelerator pedal and throwing the car into limp mode with a throttle position sensor code.

MattR 2010-05-29 08:54 PM

I'd say today was a success... Lots of fun.

dknv 2010-05-30 07:14 PM

holy moly! You made fast work out of what must've been a messy file.

Sorry for the extra work that we left for whoever put it in -- Rachel or I had not seen the process of entering additional drivers, so there were a few extra blank names from our work group.

MattR 2010-05-30 08:18 PM

Holy Crap, today is definitely a drop for me, I struggled to find speed today, and coned away a decent 40.8,,,It's amazing how much the drive ability changed by turning it around..wow. At least Kevin M couldn't capitalize on my poo day. Man, what a scrap at the top of the PAX standings...hahaha  6 familiar names and all Subarus, Cody, you are a machine. wow

Kevin M 2010-05-30 10:27 PM

I couldn't figure out how to drive on a clean tarmac surface today. coned away my first 4 runs, and had to be conservative on the 5th.

I got a chuckle though at how you took over PAX lead on a day you took a drop! :p I'm going to thoroughly enjoy seeing PAX come down to the last event though. Hasn't been a lot of drama in that the last few seasons!

Thanks, I definitely had a good weekend. But I'm far from a machine. I just bust out one of my miracle runs every once in a while.

On Saturday you annihilated everyone. Congrats on top pax and top raw.

I struggled with grip (and spool) on Saturday, but on Sunday, the grip was so much better, especially in the morning, oddly enough.

A1337STI 2010-05-31 09:35 AM

Cody your miracle runs are starting to become your norm! Great job this weekend nice pax win sunday!

Tie for first place wow!

WRXlerate 2010-06-01 09:58 AM

Cody, you're fired. I wasn't even running on saturday but somehow ended up covering the waivers for a while in the AM. I'll be hitting you up for a beer at the next meet I make it to ;)

cody 2010-06-01 10:14 AM

Hit Alex up for that beer. I told him to register for waivers and make sure Sylvio had plenty of time to walk, register, and prep his car...but he plain forgot...which I imagine is why you had to help out Sylvio. Thank you for helping out though. I wish I was fired. :p

Big thanks to Sylvio for covering me several times throughout the weekend, even when he wasn't signed up to work waivers.

The next event is in two weekends. Anyone who can help me out, especially Saturday and Sunday mornings, I'd appreciate it. Shoot me a PM. It's definitely better than shagging cones.

For Saturday, ideally you'd be running RNP, Novice, or in the Yellow Group so that one us of can "work" while the other "runs" in the morning.

On Sunday, I could use a couple people of any morning rungroup (idealy oposite run groups) to cover me in the morning (and one in the afternoon) so I don't have to show up on Sunday morning when I can't run.

BTW, Kevin W. wins the award for best burn of the weekend. I told him he couldn't leave because he had to shag cones (jokingly), and without missing a beat he replied, "I'll shag your FACE!"

If it makes you feel any better, it was GREATLY appreciated that you helped cover a station, on a day that you DIDN'T RUN!

WRXlerate 2010-06-01 10:40 AM

I didn't mind, just after reading all of the discussion on the topic I had to give Cody a bad time. It was a pita on saturday because of all the hangar traffic. Hell, I wish I would have ran that morning, I could have possibly gotten out of shaggin cones!!

A1337STI 2010-06-01 01:30 PM

Yes hit me up for beer, just as long as i see you out at reno rally this weekend. :D We still need volunteers, both friday night and Saturday. Yes i know there's a track day but there's also a Rally .. with like subarus, on dirt, *SFI Firesuit on *

Even though Cody seems to have forgotten already, I covered him Sunday morning so he could walk the course before running (and go on to win PAX OA) . I also gave him some rides during my Run For Points on Saturday for some rides on Sunday, to which he tells me "What are you talking about? Well i just promised my first two rides away!"

 Its nice to be remembered

He did remember shortly after me walking up for a ride, and hooked me up for a ride in group 4 (he was RNP)

Funny times, and i let Vic drive my car for Vic's 5th run (and his fastest)

feels like i am really really hurt myself this weekend in pax standings by helping out others.. If i end up a point or two out of a higher position not only will be able to blame myself (for not driving faster) i'll be able to blame myself for being too helpful

cody 2010-06-01 01:45 PM

Alex, I'm not seeing where I failed to remember you. I'm sorry you assumed that I'd give you a ride on Sunday morning. Frankly getting a ride right before your first "Run for Points" run in the afternoon was probably more helpful to you, and giving rides to people who were actually running in the same rungroup as me seemed to make more sense, call me crazy. You were out of sight and out of mind as I prepared for my first run and a couple people asked me for rides...

And what does any of this have to do with the fact that you completely flaked on Sylvio by not working the station you agreed to work?

Well before you hopped in my car Saturday you said i could get a ride or two with you on Sunday. I didn't know if you were going to RNP Sunday afternoon. Not knowing you were going to RNP in the afternoon of course i came over in the morning. It was actually pretty humorous how surprised you looked that i wanted a ride.

"Even though Cody seems to have forgotten already" Comment. what i specifically meant was that I
helped you out by covering so you could walk the course. :P and Honestly i felt a bit hurt reading you calling me out instead of any mention that did cover for you and that i tried helping out, (beyond just shagging cones in my assigned worker station)

1) WTF? 2) nothing.

When did i promise to Silvio i was working his station? Friday night as i was drinking beers at your house did i say something about Trying to cover him? :?: and then i signed up for Cone shagging instead of waivers? seems like it ...

LoL how did this become a "Alex ditched on a promise to silvio" issue? :?::?:

Silvio did i ever promise you i was working a shift for you? I'm confused. :(

Please post up or PM me if so. If that's actually the case you should post up, i deserve it then??

my Bad ... ?? :?:

cody 2010-06-01 03:53 PM

You didn't make any promises to Sylvio, you just told me that you'd work waivers on Saturday morning and I gave you all of the details including what time you should be there by etc. It's really not a big deal. If it were, Registration would be trying much harder to sign up people to work waivers.

I PM'd you. Let's continue this conversation via PM, please.
