sperry 2012-05-11 12:59 PM

Awesome... it's doing it again.

I can't get shit done when what I'm doing requires downloading updates and stuff off the internet.

sperry 2012-05-11 01:07 PM

Well... isn't that interesting.

I just downloaded Firefox from my browser that's behind IGT's web proxy, and from a linux box I've got in a lab that's not behind the proxy. The browser got like 200k throughput, tops. The linux box got around 3MB/sec. :unamused:

Looks like that proxy that already makes my life miserable by blocking 80% of the shit I need to do is now also killing our throughput as well. Fucking awesome.

An undersized proxy can kill a network connection as much or worse than an undersized firewall and usually IT staff and/or management doesn't care. :(

Alright, finally hardware-limited (probably a 100Mbps switch in the building).

Hey, there's a lot of crap between my desk and the fiber.....

cody 2013-09-18 03:13 PM

More than before? Your previous posts showed crazy fast pings.

100_Percent_Juice 2013-09-18 09:13 PM

Well my charter 30mb is almost completely useless every day after 5pm.

Lame. My phone gets 50 up, 50 down nowadays. My house gets 10 up, 50 down. Neato.

1. Tether
2. ???
3. Profit
4. Un-tether when you reach your data limit

My $60/mo Verizon plan is limited to 2GB of data, which I use at least half of every month just by using my Galaxy S4. Once I hit 2.000001 GB, I get hit with a $10 surcharge (each additional GB is $10) which isn't bad.

I do tether but only judiciously. I just ordered a Chromebook which may have me tethering more often...possibly.

But my neighbor and I use a enough data that the always-on connection is worth the bill we split.

Nick Koan 2014-04-28 12:39 PM

FWIW, I've been hearing that Charter is upgrading the lowest tier in Reno to 60mb down. Its rolling out in a phased manner.

cody 2014-04-28 01:02 PM

Nice! 50 is the max in my area through the cable company.

We are in the wrong part of town for 50Mb on 4G, even on Big Red.

Seriously though, if I didn't have a family at home, I would not have cable + mobile internet.

Personally, I tether quite a bit. I should be charging the U for my ingenuity and acquisition of technology to do my job.....:|
