Wintersport 3D's will be optional on the STi.

In addition, Dunlop JointLess Band Technology helps maintain tire
structural stability and enables smooth performance at highway speeds, she
added.
The French (ie. Michelin) call this "BAZ". BFGoodrich and Uniroyal (and Goodyear too I think) call this "spiral wound cap ply". It is nothing new, and should pretty much be a standard thing on hi-perf Z+ rated tires - nothing to brag about. It's kinda like saying "And this tire comes in black complete with tread and sidewalls". Most BFG and Uniroyal tires made in the US, China, and Thailand that have this technology were processed using an automated machine that I designed back in the late 90's. Many Michelins too.

Lithia and Hohl have a few STI's in stock. Has anybody seen one in person... and maybe driven one?

I'm avoiding them like the plague so I don't go buy one.

Here's a decent article from Perrin about the 2008 STI with lots of little new details about it:

Here's a nice feature of the front fender flares - hot air extraction:

My GF and I have this game we play in the car. It's kinda like Padiddle or Slugbug, etc. It's called "NewSTI". Whenever you see a MazdaSpeed3 or similar car, the first person to shout, "Hey, is that the new STI?!?" gets a point.

I'll buy an LSTi sedan if they bring us one. Else i'm moving on until I pick up another 2.5RS in 5 or 10 years.

From certain angles the car actually looks good. Those wheels help a bunch too.

Evo Mike 2008-02-01 10:42 AM

i want one.. soooo bad.. i've always thought it looked nice.. even from the preliminary shots.

i dont liek the new evo too much though.

cody 2008-02-01 10:46 AM

The wheels are sick, but they don't make up for the oogly tails. RockBlocker those MFers!

Wurd! I think vinyl overlays will be a big hit with these cars. From Harman Motive:

http://lh5.google.com/harmanmotivein...JPG?imgmax=576

But please cut out the reverse lights!

JonnydaJibba 2008-02-01 11:59 AM

That is a 1004% improvement.

Kevin M 2008-02-01 12:03 PM

I'd probably alter them to best resemble JDM GF lights. That would be hot.

knucklesplitter 2008-02-12 10:14 AM

Lots of 2008 STI's on Ebay

Before you anti-ebayers scoff... keep in mind I bought my '04 STI brand new (30 miles) on ebay for a little over $28k.

NevadaSTi 2008-02-12 11:22 AM

I like the Red one, damn that looks hot!!!!

More or less. The wagon tails have a different shape but you can't really see it if you're only looking at one or the other.

JonnydaJibba 2008-02-12 10:30 PM

They are pretty much the same. Pretty much.

My son just called me to say," Hey Dad, I'm sitting in a new STI!" His mom took him to the auto show at the convention center and Lithia (or somebody) has a blue one there. His expert opinion: "It's pretty kewl and looks a lot better in real life than the pictures on the internet."

I saw that exact car on Lithia's showroom floor earlier in the week. That opinion is right on w/ mine.

Sucks there was no shift knob in it but the dealership guy said they took it off just so that it wouldn't be stolen. I wish they had another color besides the blue. But yes, pretty cool.

I saw it at Lithia as well. It isn't as bad in person, but it is still a hatchback. :(

JonnydaJibba 2008-02-18 10:36 PM

I FINALLY saw one driving on the street.

100_Percent_Juice 2008-02-18 11:00 PM

Yeah, well I saw an Evo X today.

JonnydaJibba 2008-02-18 11:05 PM

I hope it wasn't white.

100_Percent_Juice 2008-02-19 08:21 AM

Why do you say that? I did see it going through Dayton so you probably know what I'm talking about. Its just a lancer with a body kit? I didn't know whether or not the Evo would be on the streets yet so I just assumed.

JonnydaJibba 2008-02-19 09:23 AM

Yeah somebody has a white one.

Yeah, I see a white one with a body kit around Reno too. From what I've seen of it, it is just a Lancer with a body kit.

JonnydaJibba 2008-02-19 11:18 AM

There is a yellow turbo OZ drivin around. The owner is convinced he owns and Evo.

MorganK 2008-02-19 02:22 PM

I've seen a white EvoX with placards here in Carson driven by an older gent, drove next to him for a few miles before I had to turn off. The car is much nicer in person than I had imagined.

JC 2008-02-19 03:03 PM

I'm still digging the X more.

World's fastest dustbuster.

van 2008-02-19 03:54 PM

I'm liking the new evo.
I sat in the sti at the autoshow and couldnt keep my damn knees/upperlegs from hitting the steering wheel when I put meh foot on the brake pedal. No amount of seat or wheel adjustment helped. The new wrx was a little better but I dont like the look or new diff setup on it.

knucklesplitter 2008-02-19 04:57 PM

Re. the EVO-X... I have to quote Rodney Dangerfield (I think):

"Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it!"

bxracer69 2008-02-19 05:52 PM

the new evo is definately growing on me more than the new sti

Just not diggin' the STi. Doesn't work for me whatsoever.

WRX06TR 2008-02-19 11:33 PM

I agree the new Evo is the new hotness...

knucklesplitter 2008-02-20 10:22 AM

Red tails with the reverse lights cut out:
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/2286/redtailsiw8.jpg

I saw a nice WRX sedan today. I wish the STI was based off it instead of a wagon... but I still haven't seen the 08 STI in person yet.

Kevin M 2008-02-20 10:28 AM

Not bad, but I think I'd go with smoked lenses instead of red if I had one.

Dammit! Blocked by IGT's filter. Wanna attach it for me? *bats eyes*

After seeing the car in person, I like it. I'm not all swooning over it like I was when the Sti frist came out... but it's nice enough that it makes me consider getting rid of the SVX while it's working good and easier to sell and getting a new STi for a daily driver. I just don't really want another damn car payment though... especially since I'm buying a house.

I like that charcoal color. I think smoked lense on a smoke-colored car would be too much... smoke?
