Mike <-- Broken nearly every header on the market and now only runs stockers on the race cars.

Hrm.... well, those coated Gruppe-S headers have held up really well for the last few years, even with 1750F EGTs.

Plus, I think my stock headers got left on the floor at Gruppe-S like 3 years ago.

Anyone have some stock WRX or STi headers lying around? That would be easier than cutting up a brand new oil pan I guess. Mike, do you run them w/ all that heat shield crap bolted to 'em?

Dean 2008-02-19 11:30 AM

MikeK mentioned a larger crossover pipe to eliminate that restriction. Might want to look into that at the same time.

Kevin M 2008-02-19 11:45 AM

That didn't take long.

cody 2008-02-19 11:46 AM

Jeremy can get you a good deal on the cross pipe too. ;)

...course if I get some OEM headers, I can just slap them on the car and go racing rather than spend an additional $275 for non-quantified benefits. You'd think they'd put up a dyno chart and temp readings showing the before and after of their process to back up their claims.

Kevin M 2008-02-19 01:07 PM

Or you could save $86 on semi-qualified benefits.

sperry 2008-02-19 01:17 PM

C'mon, someone has to have some OEM headers lying around they can sell me. I'm not looking for P&P and coatings and all that crap... I just want to get the damn motor back in my car!

MikeK? MattR? Dean? Who else has done headers?

sybir 2008-02-19 01:44 PM

Found some if you want to make a trip ;)

Boo Yam!

Nick might actually be heading down your way this weekend. He said he can pick 'em up for me if that happens. Tell Paul he's the man. :D

sybir 2008-02-19 03:06 PM

Will do ;)

100_Percent_Juice 2008-02-19 04:43 PM

I would have given you mine. Trade straight up for your headers! ;)

I was thinking about that, but 1) no way I'd trade $500 headers for $100 OEM headers straight up... and 2) in the long run, I may rather trim back the oil pan to run those nice coated ones I've already got.

100_Percent_Juice 2008-02-19 05:13 PM

I didn't know you had the ceramic coated version. My stock setup and a gift certificate to outback steakhouse. yum

Sorry mangs, I am on P+P+C stock headers since last december. I can sell you an auxiliary backup set of gruppe-s headers if you want though :)

They are safe. I need to get them back to you whenever it's convenient. Or should I drop them off at Scott's?

Um, I'd prefer to keep my header, but if Scott needs it, I'll let him have it. Otherwise, I can plan on swinging by your shop one day or something like that.

We don't run any of the OEM heat shields, FWIW we broke the flex bellow in the Injen crosspipe this weekend. Granted it had been on the car for the best part of a year but still. We're now back to stock all round.

Cool. I think I've got a set of OEM headers I can grab from dbTuned, who I'll be calling shortly.

Geez - I only had mine for sale for what - 6 months until Mike K finally picked them up!

I really hope you are making some head way on that project Scott. I can't wait to see the final result.

Well, I've been working on it all day, and not making much progress for the time spent. I drilled and tapped those headers for my EGT probe. Then after bolting them to the motor, I went to install the motor mount and guess what... the EGT probe and the motor mount want to occupy the same spot.

So, I had to plug the hole in the headers and re-tap it on the other side of the manifold. But in the process I broke my EGT sender, so I had to order a new one.

I also finished some clean-up in the engine bay. Did a little painting. There's still a bunch of cleaning I need to do to the suspension to get the oil off everything, but I'm worn out and tired of smelling engine and brake cleaner.

And I was really hoping to have the motor back in the car today.
