FIA appoints special scrutineer to keep eye on Alonso's car

Hopefully now, Alonso will be in no danger of Hamilton letting air out of his tires.

Hah, even Alonso thinks its pretty retarded.

And Alonso said: "It is not up to us, but I don't agree with it - we do not need anything like that in the garage."

Dean 2007-10-21 10:11 AM

OMGIt was Hamilton's to lose and he did just that. Could have just run around not banged his equipment up, but no, had to fight and then bang his car of the curbs too hard (supposedly) and break his electronic clutch control or whatever...

I do think they should have let the Ferrari drivers really battle for the race win, but oh well. No team orders, but come in a few laps too early and we will have a 2 second too long pit stop waiting for you...

At least Alonso ended up third for the race and season.

skimonkey30 2007-10-21 12:47 PM

Unbelievable race for ferrari and Kimi!!! What a way to end the season!![/

Bring on the silly season

MattR 2007-10-21 04:27 PM

Not so fast!!!!!!!! Sauber BMW and Williams cars all failed post race inspection, due to a fuel issue. FIA is meeting right now to decide what will happen. If they are excluded, it will shake up todays points and change the championship results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MattR 2007-10-21 04:32 PM

Okay, looks like an update came as I typed above...No change on points, it looks like the fuel irregularity was only in fuel temps from the rig ???? WTF??? Never heard of that one before.

Fuel samples taken from both cars of both teams during their pit stops in Sunday's race showed temperature degrees outside the permitted variation. Article 6.5.5 of the Formula 1 technical regulations states: "No fuel on board the car may be more than 10 degrees centigrade below ambient temperature."

FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer said all fuel samples from the four cars showed temperature of 12 to 14 degrees centigrate lower than the ambient temperature at the time. However, after deliberations at Interlagos, the race stewards decided not to penalize the teams

sperry 2007-10-21 04:39 PM

But deciding the driver's champ in a courtroom would have been the most fitting end to the season! How dare the stewards decided to let the on-track racing determine the result, this is F1!

MPREZIV 2007-10-21 04:49 PM

That, was, an, AWESOME race! I was at the edge of my seat the entire thing! Great season ender!

MikeK 2007-10-21 04:59 PM

I love that Kimi took a swig before the anthems played

Well, now McLaren is appealing the stewards decision.

http://www.crash.net/motorsport/f1/n...his_-_yet.html

So, yeah.

Anyway, the race was great. I'm am a little sad for Hammilton (if the decision of the stewards stands up in arbitration) but I am extremely happy for Kimi. He finally did it (if the decision of the stewards stands up in arbitration)

As has been said before, Kimi is THE MAN!!! :D

Yeah, it's rough that Hammy worked so hard, and was on his way to an unheard of season, but sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Holy crap:

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headline...22220432.shtml

Quote:

Lewis Hamilton has admitted that his bid for this year's Formula One Championship seemingly came to an end during the last race of the season following a moment of human error.

"My finger slipped on the steering wheel and I accidentally pressed the button used for the starting sequence," Hamilton confided several hours after the event, according to Montreal's French-language daily newspaper La Presse.

That error cut power to his McLaren for an interminable minute, dropping him down to 18th place as the Brazilian Grand Prix entered its eighth lap on the Interlagos circuit.

"The car went into neutral and I had to reinitialize the system, that is, reload the gearbox management program," he explained. The onboard camera recorded images of Hamilton pressing several buttons on his steering wheel while other drivers sped by.

...
Why in the world is there a button on the wheel that you can bump to enter the starting sequence? Shouldn't it be active only when the car's on the limiter in pit lane or something?

I imagine next year the button will look a little bit more like this...

Kevin M 2007-10-22 03:09 PM

Dammit, why is that the only thing you can get with a GIS of "self destruct button?"

Kevin M 2007-10-22 03:10 PM

Also, everyone knows you punt your championship by messing with your brake bias in a tunnel. Frickin' n00bs.

Dean 2007-10-22 03:24 PM

I didn't realize they used Windows Vista on F1 cars... The whole reboot your car joke from years ago has come true.

tysonK 2007-10-22 06:03 PM

Hamilton sucks.

I knew it.

I hate to quote just to put in an LoL, but dammit that was funny!

Nick Koan 2007-10-26 10:43 AM

McLaren's appeal date is set for Nov. 15th.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/63664

Good news for Kimi though

Quote:

But speaking about the upcoming appeal today, FIA president Max Mosley downplayed the potential threat to Raikkonen's title.

"For us the world championship is over, the result is what it is," he said today. "A team presented an appeal; at the moment, this doesn't change anything - it's up to them to prove they are right."

sperry 2007-10-28 04:00 PM

Okay, now it was just a mis-quote:

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headline...28153747.shtml

Hammy says his mistake was just his poor driving that dropped him to 8th at the start of the race... the gearbox failure was purely mechanical.

'Course, with spin on every story as strong in F1 as it is in politics... I'm not sure what to believe. But given the author of the original story saying Hammy hit the neutral button is admitting to have misquoted Lewis, it's probably true that there was a real mechanical failure.

Nick Koan 2007-10-29 09:51 PM

Now here's a silly season article for everyone. It's pure speculation, not even a hint of a rumor (I don't think anyway)

But, Fernando Alonso to drive for Lexus Williams.

It may be all made up, but that is some marketing genius...

...plus how sweet would an IS350 Williams F1 Edition be? Screw BMW's M and Merc's AMG, I want a WF1 Lexus!
