SECCS Reno-Fernley Track Day, Sunday August 29!

6 Attachment(s)
SECCS Track Day!
SECCS will be putting on its first track event at the newly expanded Reno-Fernley Raceway road course Sunday, August 29th! This event is open to all drivers, as we will have instruction provided by The Next Level Driving School... a Subaru is *not* required.

Breakdown of groups:
The Next Level will be providing Novice and Advanced instruction.

Novice - For drivers with no or little track experience. Drivers will spend time in the classroom learning car control theory, safe cornering, and basic line selection as well as skid-pad time getting used to car handling before hitting the track. Passing only in designated areas w/ a wave-by once the instructor feels the group is ready. Ride along instruction should be available.

Advanced - For drivers with previous track / HPDE experience. Drivers will spend time in the classroom learning more advance car control topics, line optimization, shifting (including heel-toe), and observation skills. Passing will be allowed in most areas, with a wave-by of course.

Pricing:
The cost for the event will be $200 per driver ($220 after August 12th). This includes classroom instruction, skidpad and track time, lunch at the track, and an event T-Shirt! We are accepting payment via PayPal (paypal@seccs.org) and by personal check or cash (if you can pay either MattR or sperry in person). Because the track requires a deposit 2 months in advance, we cannot guarantee refunds after June 25th. Please specify your T-Shirt size when registering!

Registration:
Our goal is to have at least 30 participants so we will be able to take over the track for the whole day and close it to the public. Please signup by posting in this thread! Send PayPal (paypal@seccs.org) or drop a check off with MattR or sperry at a meet. Please specify T-Shirt size when registering (M, L, XL, 2XL). Also make sure to include your real name and screen name when you register so there's no confusion!
August 21st will be the final day we will be accepting registrations for this event!

Tech Inspection:
All vehicles will be required to pass a morning tech inspection that will include inspection of:
Body/Frame - no excessive corrosion or damage
Battery - securely mounted, no leaks
Brakes - 50% pad depth or greater remaining (recommend 75% or greater), no cracks in rotors, recommend a spare set of front pads (since we don't know how hard the new track configuration will be on brakes), pedal must be firm and not move under constant pressure, brake lights must be operational
Brake Fluid - less than 6 months old, bled recently, and topped off
Belts/Hoses - no cracks or frays
Fluids - no coolant, oil, brake fluid, etc leaks. adequate coolant level
Throttle - no binding or sticking (if your Subaru was covered by the cruise control recall, have it taken care of before the event!)
Wheels - no cracks or bends
Lug Nuts/Bolts - properly installed, no cross-threading, no spacers, adequate number of threads in the nut
Tires - adequate thread depth, even wear, no cording, no chunking, no rubbing
Wheel Bearings - no excessive looseness, no leaks
Steering - no looseness, car must track straight, power steering fluid topped off
Seat Belts - factory belts or DOT approved harnesses in good condition
Windows - no cracks/chips in the direct line of sight of the driver, no cracks/chips that touch two sides of the window
Cockpit - no loose items or floormats, empty glovebox/compartments
Trunk - remove spare tire, jack, subwoofers, etc
Helmet - DOT or SNELL approved (SA2000 recommended)
Clothing - Long sleeve shirt, long pants required. All cotton recommended.

Driver Waiver:
Drivers will be required to sign a liability waiver (attached to this post, and available at the track). Please make sure to bring your driver's licence, medical insurance information, and emergency contact information.

Saturday Meet/BBQ:
If enough people are going to be in town on Saturday, we'll try to put together a meet/BBQ on Saturday in Reno!

Track Picture:
Darker area is the new addition!

So is it considered as one of those school requirement for the open tune sessions?

If I get my Legacy GT and finish break in by then I'll bring it, otherwise, WRX.

Alan Leung - advance

For all the people that signed up before I started asking for t-shirt sizes, I just tossed an "XL" up there. What size would you prefer?

sperry 2004-05-20 08:26 AM

Bump!

For those of you signed up, we need to start collecting money via the PayPal link in the 1st post. If we don't have enough people paid in the next few weeks, we will not be able to reserve the track date, and we might lose the event!

Someone be the brave soul that starts off the paying! ;) Remember, if you pay early, when the event comes around it will feel like it's free!

MikeSTI 2004-05-20 08:43 AM

I'll pay by June 4 :D

bemanii 2004-05-20 08:47 AM

So will we get a refund if there aren't 15 people signed up?

MikeSTI 2004-05-20 08:49 AM

yah I would think so, but I'm guessing we will get the 15 ppl min. :D

If the track day is cancelled for any reason, I will refund everyone's money, minus the (stupid) PayPal fees.

ArthurS 2004-05-20 09:03 AM

Scott,

I am interested in this, but I will not go unless I have a different car then the WRX. I should have it soon, but to be safe I don't want to pay quite yet. If the said 15 people sign up and everything is a go....is it possible for a late registration and payment?

We're accepting registration until about a week before the event. I just want to make sure we get enough people early on so we can reserve the track.

ArthurS 2004-05-20 09:09 AM

Thanks. I'll let you know my plan way before that last week.

MikeSTI 2004-05-20 11:26 AM

Art,
As long as you can be ready to pay by June 25th I think you will be ok....hehe 8)

Scott,
Is this posted anywhere else?

I posted about the event on both NASIOC and I-Club... you guys should go and bump the posts, they're in the BAIC forums. :)

It's also listed on myautoevents.com.

ArthurS 2004-05-20 12:06 PM

You told us to 'bump' them. I did. Now I have to go back and actually add something.

I'm in!

Quick Question though. I'm signing up for novice as I have never taken the car to the track, but I am attending 2 other NASA events before this one. Will it be possible to change to Group B later in the summer If I feel competent enought not to crash my car? Should I just sign up for group B?

At any rate, I'm in.

We should be able to accomidate a group change within a week or two of the event.

Thanks. Schedule is everything, which is why I will play it safe and sign up for group A. I wish I had more time this summer!

It's not a schedule conflict, just the car - I want to have a rollbar welded in before doing track events with it, mostly to satisfy safety requirements of myself and the woman of the house. I just doubt I'll have the kind of cash saved up to have Mike put in a good cage by then.

You're telling me you work at Maximum Motorsports and you can't get a cage installed on the cheap? Time to make friends with the fab guys at work, and have 'em get welding! I know Mike's cages are the best, but if you can get one that's 90% as nice and just as safe for half the cost... I'd do it.

Besides, you should come up for the weekend even if you're not driving. Bring Laura, we'll be BBQing and stuff too... not just racing. You can check out the track day and realize it's not so dangerous w/o a cage... it's basically like going for a canyon run, except the road is much nicer, and much safer, and there's no traffic. You only have to push the car as hard as you want, and the track's so big you can easily be all by yourself in every corner.

dirtyWRX 2004-05-25 09:27 AM

Just for the record, I'll be driving a '02 WRX.

Also, with only 30 drivers, and a 2+ mile track, I'm surprised that there won't be a lot more track time. Could no instruction and advance run together and then only run 2 groups?

I've got some tires that are just waiting to get run to the cords. :)

I think the track time is limited more by the groups using the classroom... bascially, when you're not on the track, you're in the classroom. When I did the beginner class, there was actually times where the track had *no* classes running, and it was just open for test-n-tune, and I was still able to put over 100 track miles on the car that day. Since we're taking over the entire track (assuming we get the 30 people) we might be able to get additional track time, but even if there are test-n-tune people there, track time won't be lacking. I don't think there will be times when you're sitting around waiting to get on the track.

1 more person?

I need to get a deposit to the track before the 26th of this month, and as much as I wish SECCS had the money to float the deposit, we simply don't have that kind of treasury.

Please, send your PayPal payment to paypal@seccs.org! If PayPal is not an option, we can accept personal checks (made out to "SECCS") via mail, or even cash in person if you wish. Contact me (sperry) or MattR via PM to arrange non-PayPal payment.

Please don't worry about losing your money if the event doesn't happen. I'm very confident that we will be have enough people for this event! And in the unlikely case the event is cancelled, I will of course refund your entry fees.
