Almost to good to be true!

What would you say to a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI, AWD, Turbo, 5 spd, thats been garage kept, with a car cover on it for most of its life. This car has 55,000 original miles, plus it was owned by a seventy year old lady, who drove it off the lot. Sounds to good to be true right. I'm seriously pondering whether or not to by it, her son is selling it for her they want 3800 for it. It's black with immaculate paint, a perfect interior, with stock wheels without a scratch on them. Please sway me from the dark side.

sp00ln 2004-08-18 11:34 PM

You'd be stupid... i should fucking buy it.

Kevin M 2004-08-18 11:37 PM

That's an amazing deal. Go for it.

sti deede 2004-08-19 07:44 AM

I wouldn't think twice about scooping that up. That car has so much potential for tuning.

sperry 2004-08-19 08:03 AM

Even as a Subaru guy I'd buy that thing in a hot second if all that you say about it is true!

The only thing to be wary of is that it may not have been driven often recently and the seals and hoses, etc might need replacement.

Libila 2004-08-19 08:51 AM

Get it Bobby, you know you want to. Welcome to the dark side.

MikeSTI 2004-08-19 09:09 AM

pass

sp00ln 2004-08-19 11:11 AM

^ Just wait till it passes you

Bob Danger 2004-08-19 12:37 PM

I'm going to go check it out tonight, the ladies son who's selling it is a machanic in tahoe he said he just replaced the timing belt, water pump, plugs, plug wires, battery, and the slave cylinder. This may be the car.

MikeSTI 2004-08-19 12:40 PM

stange :? they didn't replace the short block?

Dean 2004-08-19 05:15 PM

It's Black... Never again.... Otherwise it is a rocking deal... I'd probably by the Galant VR-4 if it wasn't black...

Bob Danger 2004-08-19 07:38 PM

I just went and drove it, and all i have to say is WOW!

So, i ran a car fax everything checked out, I checked kelly blue book, the retail value of the car is 3,815. The car's be sitting in the say spot for 2 dasy and their isn't a drop of fluid underneath it. So now all i need is 3,800 dollars. Any donations to the "Danger Car Fund" :D

Just Joking, or am I!

Libila 2004-08-20 08:55 AM

Get it Bobby! Then you can talk DSMs with Ryan and myself. We will both have black cars too, weird...

MikeSTI 2004-08-20 09:25 AM

3800 seems a little high to pay for such an old car :?

I can get these from the yard all day at 1K :P

Just check symple stuff before or after you get it - that the cam angles match up on the gears, stuff like that. Sounds like a good deal, take it!

To where, a ghey disco?

FWIW I had a purple Ford Ranger once upon a time, so I can jest...

Bob Danger 2004-08-20 07:14 PM

Ryan, Tim and I have agreed that it would be easier, and less "gay", if you painted you're car black.

sp00ln 2004-08-20 07:41 PM

Ah, screw you guys! I'll go solo.

IheartSTI 2004-08-21 01:16 AM

You don't know much about other cars in the world apparently.

doubleurx 2004-08-21 08:13 AM

I used to own that same car. I loved it. The only thing I remember that was a problem was the clutch and the shifter that felt like it was lubed with shards of glass. Other than that, the car was a blast.

Some day Sam, you will learn. Weve told you that its all in how the car is kept. DSMs get a bad rap because they get beat on alot. What would you expect from a cheap, turbo four cylinder?

Dean 2004-08-21 10:13 AM

So have you bought the car yet, or are you still thinking about it? For $3K+, Maybe I should get a dedicated winter car... :D

Exactly. I've had two DSM's and no real BIG problems that were car related. The only time my dsm (gst) EVER broke down was the timing belt skipped a couple teeth because one of the pullies was loose and tore through the timing belt cover, causing the belts to hit. I've heard this was one of the "problems" with DSMs but who knows, maybe when I got my timing belts change they forgot to torque that certain pulley to spec? Also my friends 1g has only broken down due to user error and negligence. Stuff that could happen to ANY car if not taken care of properly. The problem is that these cars are cheap, and people either buy them to abuse them or kids buy them and abuse them, expecting them to be rock solid with no maintenance.

Then there's the crank walk issue, but that's really just an excuse for a stroker motor...

IheartSTI 2004-08-21 12:28 PM

libila took kept his in great condition and it still broke. kaylins broke to right tim? every single one of morgans have had problems. maybe they all just had bad luck?

Libila 2004-08-21 04:49 PM

I know why mine broke, it got too hot and I wasnt paying attention. Kaylen's broke because of negligence. Morgan's broke because he never knew what he was doing, and he beat the hell out of it. Bad luck, I think not...

Mike, I need wheels in a bad way for winter, and the stockers off that car would be perfect. Any way you can hook that up? I've got cash....

Debbie has a set of 02 WRX wheels she would probably like to get rid of...

sybir 2004-08-22 10:15 AM

I appreciate it; they won't clear my 4-pots, though :(

Josh might be interested in WRX wheels, though. as he's selling his RS, any idea how much Debbie wants for her set so I can relay it?

Sam, you better watch where you spit bud. Tone it down. I think it's cool that your parents bought a cool car, I wish I got to drive our corvettes as much as you get to drive the STi.

On a side note: you should really stop talking shit about DSMs, your making yourself look dumb. Everyone on this bored knows better than that.

IheartSTI 2004-08-22 06:50 PM

i was not talking shit but what ive seen i have never seen a DSM last very long unless it is bone stock
