Are there any good places to buy Burning Man gear locally (besides walmart, etc)?

Twin City Surplus on 4th Street has tons of good stuff for cheap. |
Do they actually burn a man?
|
Someone told me its like two hundred bucks for a ticket, is this true?
|
I think its like $280-$300 if you were to buy now.

Some folks will pay alot to see bewbies and art. Between the admission and the necessary stockpile of food, water, basecamp items, and things for trade, it must round out to $5-600. I've known some folks who spend thousands.
|
Yeah, I dont know. I think it's stupid too... but I bet it's worth every penny.
I went one year and all we did is ride our motorcycles in... but that was years ago. |
Did you happen to see the 'drive-by shooting range' or a remote controlled lamp chasing around a driving sofa? That was about seven years ago.
|
My ticket was $250 via craigslist two weeks ago but it says $200 on it. I wasn't planning on ever going again since it's so expensive, but a friend talked me into it sort of last minute. I don't think it will cost me more than $400 total plus I was given an old crappy RV that we're taking.
I wouldn't recommend Burning Man to those of you that don't appreciate tons of electronica and general shinanigans in the desert for a week. It would be easy to miss the point of Burning Man, and I'm sure many don't enjoy it at all. Personally I'm looking forward to it because I just got back from a backpacking trip and any hardships (RE: weather, bike issues, no running water, etc.) will be perfectly acceptable. To be honest, Burning Man is simply another way to experience culture. In the same way spending 3 months in Europe on a tight budget allowed me to see the seperation of myself from my environment, Burning Man shows me that enviornment is often inconsequencial...human nature is ugly and beautiful, but out of all of the sites I experienced in Europe, nothing compares to the freak show that is Burning Man. Besides, it's a really big fuckin party and people go all out. :omg: Tomorrow one of my goals is to find a schedule with all of the DJ's that will be spinning. I haven't even bothered to read up on what's going on this year. All I know is that the theme this year is Hope and Fear. Matt, Twin City Surplus looks like a cool store. I hope they have goggles. Anybody know where to get giant oversized boxing gloves and/or glitter lotion? |
You can usually get glitter lotion from strippers. Just ask nicely.
|
From what I've heard it sounds kind of like fun, but I think more scary. I mean a shitload of people being wasted/cracked out/blown/whatever in the middle of the desert sounds like anarchy.
|
It's a community and is a heck of a lot less scary than downtown Reno. There are rules and potential penalties (like instant expulsion), but people tend to get along just fine. It's liberating just living with so many people and so much wackiness. There's a prevailing air of unity, friendliness, and downright sillyness all around...

Oh, and I believe police and ambulance units are out there.

There are federal rangers that walk around and ride around on ATV's but I've never seen them do anything other than point at the craziness and talk amongst themselves while smiling.
I think there are also Ranger outposts where you can go complain if sombody is breaking the rules and sombody needs a talking to. It sounds to me like there are Burning Man Rangers and Federal Rangers. You can do drugs anywhere you want, but if you walk up to one of the Federal Rangers and start telling him about the "colors man", be prepared to spend the night in a white room. The hire a company out of Reno to handle emergency care and they have ambulances and a helicopter ready to fly people to Reno when the need arrives. |
Cody, make sure you swing by and see my crew at Camp Ezra located at 9:00 & Fate. I can't make it out this year, but the group is huge...I'm not sure what exactly they have planned, but its always fun to make new friends out there.
|
Cool, I'll add them to my list of cool camps to visit. :)
Thanks again for the tip on Twin City Surplus. I just spent $150 there, but it will be split amongst 3 of us. Anybody want to buy a 75 gallon potable water tank with a hose compatible spicket after this weekend? :) |
75 Gallon??? Holy Shit that's huge!!! Save it for next year...
Dude, there's this DJ that usually sets up shop near Pinky's Pirate Bar(6:00), I'm not actually sure if they're there this year or not, but anyway, this DJ that goes by Arkay, he's out of Denver. This guy is AWESOME, for 3 years, he's been among the best I've seen out there...If you can track him down, plan on spending some time with his sets, holy crap. |
Right on. I'll check it out fo sheezy. I've had very little luck learning what big DJ's will be there this year...other than Forest Green. My friend Sarah (DJ Seraphim) said she's supposed to be there.

Matt, where can I find D:fuse's 04 & 05 sets? |
From that same site in year's past.
