jdm parts

why do a lot of people in here not like jdm parts? after all the perrin sti or the cobb cars could no way in hell take the hks evo or alteza. someone elxplain to me i realy want to know what so wrong with them? please respond nicely i dont want this thread to get red flaged :D :D

btw. is anyone interested in a jdm sti motor? full motor/turbo/intercooler. everything...

Kevin M 2004-09-08 10:58 PM

The full race-prepped JDM shop cars do indeed kick ass, but that has little to do with the individual parts that end up here on customer cars. Nobody here will say a part or company sucks strictly for being Japanese. We just don't automatically assume it's good because of it. Either it works or it doesn't, and a lot of the lower-end Japanese stuff just isn't any better than alternatives. Plus, JDM aftermarket stuff gets way marked up just for being JDM.

tysonK 2004-09-08 10:58 PM

I'm not sure what JDM "hating" you are referring to Sam?

I'm a fan of tons of the JDM stuff. Many people on the board prefer JDM factory areo parts over most "kits".

I love the JDM and UK wheels found on the many of the Subaru vehicles.

In fact I would bet many of the people on this board would love a JDM factory engine to replace thier USDM one. It would be a simple swap to make great reliable power!

You need to be more specific with teh last question. Yah we are interested in them. You mean you have a source on one for cheap? You would like some feedback on a good JDM engine for a project?

Kevin M 2004-09-08 11:02 PM

Oh, and for some reason, HKS hates Subaru completely. They put no R&D into their Subaru parts, hence they are shit. Their Toyota and Mitsubishi parts rock though. Nobody really knows why.

Nick Koan 2004-09-08 11:12 PM

Well, I don't think its really JDM hate, its just the realization that JDM isn't always better then the alternative for specific parts. Some people on other Import boards are such JDM whores, that they will only buy JDM parts, and thats just freaking ridiculious.

sp00ln 2004-09-08 11:15 PM

Guys:

Im thinking about setting up a JDM service while I'm in Japan. Would anyone be interested? If I get enough people to tell me that they're interested, I'll make a dedicated email for the service. I'll just get spare parts from junkyards or whatnot that you guys might want to have.

So far I just have 3 people

That'd awesome, but I'd be more interested in you bidding on yahoo.jp auctions for me. Hella rare stuff for hella cheap (relatively).

Well, it could also be something like that. If you can bid on parts in my area, I'll be happy to check them out in person or make sure the parts are sent to you? Does that make sense?

Kostamojen 2004-09-08 11:20 PM

JDM aftermarket stuff is freakin expensive. Otherwise its fine. Used JDM engines kick ass, and the older ones are quite the opposite and slightly affordable :D

The thing is, though, is that you need a Japanese address to bid on stuff from yahoo.jp. Actually, I already got a buddy out there that might start doing this stuff for me (when I get some money, that is ).

Kevin M 2004-09-08 11:22 PM

I'm with nKoan, I'd be more than willing to pay commission for someone to bid on yahoo.jp for me. I've missed out on a lot of cool stuff there because of that. :(

sp00ln 2004-09-08 11:27 PM

Ah, well, I'll do that too! I didn't know you needed a Japanese address on Yahoo. I'll be happy to do that for you guys. Are you guys interested?

IheartSTI 2004-09-08 11:32 PM

i did not mean people hate jdm products...i think it would be cool if someone fully built a car with jdm parts and someone built a car with usdm parts and euro and shit.....i am getting a whole front clip and i dont want the motor...

so, what exactly are you using from the front clip? transmission? little odds and ends from the engine bay?

MikeSTI 2004-09-09 10:21 AM

Sam - I think there might just be a miss understanding on the idea that JDM parts are bad. From most of your post you have been asking about parts for your USDM 2.5 car hence the reason most people say go with Perrin, Cobb, TurboXS, ect. ect. They dont make these cars for Japan's consumers so there is no 2.5 STi parts being made specific. That being said I dont think many people in this club dont have atleast one JDM bit on thier car? You just seem to like HKS a lot and they dont make the best parts for our cars :?

ScottyS 2004-09-09 10:46 AM

Actually, I'm hoping for the JDM SECCS sticker. Anybody got a pic of that hot item?

even though are STI is differnt i am sure jdm company's do R&D on all the STI parts.. i do think perrin makes better motor parts for the STI but i do believe that some of the jdm company's make the best suspension's...

Some, yes, but not all.

murphy 2004-09-09 01:56 PM

Yes HKS slacks on the subie parts. A good JDM subie parts maker is jun auto.

murphy 2004-09-09 03:40 PM

Sorry to say that is a few years old time attack set up..that is a bug eye wrx. Before the time attack would get broken by a few hundreths or tenths..but NOB tanaguci destroyed it by over 2 seconds early this year.
*edit* it was high 56 second range then he ran this..54.7** here is a link.

tarzan(hks evo driver) was on course to beet his own record that he just set by another 1 1/2 seconds but went off course on the last corner.. HKS did a great job with that evo. and the alteza is not so bad. it held the recored before the evo.

btw. there is a guy hear in carson that ownes a 03 wrx with 19,000 miles with jun front bumper and the rest of his kit is c-west i think. it is suuppperrrr clean. it also is lowered with wheels. never raced, he wants 20 for it

It was Nobuteru Tanigichi. The record for the Tsukuba Circuit is 54.739 sec last time I checked. Tarzan drives for Signal Auto.

I found the throttle body! Note the throttle cable linkage running left to right across the motor. My guess is there's a similar setup on the left one as well.

Ah, good eye!

murphy 2004-09-14 09:15 AM

I'll try and remember to bring one of my option mags with time attack records..oh yes Yamada and NOB will drive pretty much any car.. I've seen both of them drive the signal cars and topsecret cars.
