TINTING!!!

I dropped the STi off at Trimline to get the tint done this morning. I'm so excited. What a fun week of spending money on the car. I need to do this all the time! :D

Aren't they bank? ...I'm eventually going to need to get the SVX done, but I can't remember the name of the guy that did my WRX.

sti deede 2004-09-23 08:30 AM

yeah but they do a really good job, so I can splurge a little on it.

sperry 2004-09-23 08:31 AM

I wonder if they'd mark up the price on an SVX because of the "extra" windows.

sybir 2004-09-23 08:32 AM

What, you mean the 9 WINDOW tint job? :D

+ the windshield banner.

sybir 2004-09-23 08:38 AM

Haha, have them tint the mirrors and go for an even dozen ;)

ScottyS 2004-09-23 09:01 AM

Actually, I was just going to ask about good quality tinting around here. It's all about the warranty, right? What's the typical price for 5 windows (obviously I have more)?

MattR 2004-09-23 09:02 AM

I still think the guy that did Tyson and Sergios cars is the best, best price too.

what did you pay? I think when I first got my STi I called them and they didnt know if the windows where the same as the WRX, I told them they where and quoted over the phone like 195 or (IIRC), but then that was a year ago

MattR 2004-09-23 09:07 AM

I think Deedee said she was going to do it for like 200...so that sounds about right. I wish I knew what happened to the guy that did mine for 130...that was a sweet deal.

sti deede 2004-09-23 10:06 AM

I paid 260 for all window and the tint strip on the windshield. It's alot so it better be worth it. If not I'll be doing my usual and overpaying.

Who, pray tell, Matt? Good quality & guarantee? Still, I'd pay ~$250 if the work was good, and there were not going to be any problems down the road.

I think that's the guy that did mine. Little Vietnamese (I think) guy? I had his card, but lost it somewhere along the last 3 years since I had it done.

MattR 2004-09-23 10:36 AM

Yeah, I'm sure that's the same guy.

ArthurS 2004-09-23 10:44 AM

Are you guys talking about the guy whose card is like purple and has a truck on one side, and a car on the other?

322-3181. The total was $260 and some change. I don't have the receipt yet. Let me know what you find out.
When I dropped it off I parked the car next to another blue sti in their lot, only differance was the other car had silver wheels.

Same. You gave me his card. I tried calling him and no one ever picked up.

what grade tint did you get? 35 front 25 rest?

MikeSTI 2004-09-23 11:05 AM

ok I just called and they have a 3 yr. guarantee for 169.50 + tax

and their lifetime Guarantee is 217 + tax with front window strip for 30 more

so it sounds to me the prices have gone up sence last year :(

I got 35 for the front side windows and 15 eveywhere else. I hope it isn't too dark, but they didn't have 25. I got the lifetime warranty tint.

15 should be dark, but not too dark. 5 is a little on the 'too dark' side, but even that isn't so bad.

Isn't 5 "limo" tint?

sybir 2004-09-23 12:35 PM

Affirmative. I've got limo on the back 5 on my car, it's really not bad.
Keeps it a ton cooler, too.

I didn;t know that was Limo...It's not that bad at all...15 should be no problem on deede's car...

sperry 2004-09-23 12:50 PM

I just don't like the "uneven" look of darker in the rear than in the front.

I think I'm gonna go w/ 25% all around, which means I need an installer that's not too particular about "bending" the law.

35/25 isnt that much to be seen as uneven :D

No but 35/5 sure is, and the 35/15 Deede's getting might be. MY WRX is 35% all around, and I think I want the SVX to be a bit darker w/o the semi-metallic reflection.

MikeSTI 2004-09-23 12:59 PM

I should be getting mine done soon so if you hold out awhile you can see mine :D

I don't either really, but hopefully it won't look too bad.
I guess if I hate it I'll just get the front redone in 15% then I'll match.

Yeah. It's faded a little bit, but it's not all that bad. I need to get it replaced, as my passenger rear is getting blurry, and every window in the cargo area has gouges in it from moving so much stuff :)

When I get it redone I'll do 5% on the back 5 and a 50% (supposedly Cali-legal now) on the front windows; with the back so dark, it shouldn't even look like the fronts are tinted much, but it'll get rid of the green cast on the glass that I have now.....

Evo Mike 2004-09-23 10:43 PM

I havent' read the other posts too well, but if anyone's seen my car, i got my tint done at custom concepts of reno.. (just of S virginia st.) . I think they charged me 150$ for 15% all around... they were charging like 70$ for tint stripping.

My brother said he got charged 220$ for everything 35% front and 20% rear. They give a lifetime warrenty on their tint against bubble-ing, purple-ing etc..

From what i hear from other people, they do a decent job.

Evo Mike 2004-09-23 10:47 PM

I've driven a bunch of cars with all different combinations of tint (35-25) (35-20) (20-20) (15-15) (5-5)

I've decided 15% all the way around is perfect. It's just dark enough so you can't see in it at night.. but it still allows you to see a little bit. People i know who have g35's back home that have 5% all around... say its a pain to drive at night. (which is why they drive with the windows down all the time).. i think tyson has 20% all around and he loves it.

This info may not help at all.. but it's my 2 cents :D

murphy 2004-09-24 06:43 AM

it looks good Dee..adds a little to the car. makes it look faster..you know kind of like speed holes.

Thanks Mike :D

The tint came out great. Right now its completely legal. I don't mind the darker rear parts, so I think I'm going to leave it alone.

MattR 2004-09-24 07:26 AM

Yeah, that looks really good. The car looks awesome. 15 is great, I wish mine was that dark now..

You could always get yours redone darker, of course that would take money away from other things.
