Old Games Mood

Guess I have been missing some old games I used to play now that all these new fancy games are out.

So, I repurchased these:

*Unreal Tournement
*Delta Force 1, 2, Land Warrior, and Task Force Dager
*Half-Life: Game of the Year Edition, Half-Life: Opposing Force, Team Fortress Classic, Half-Life: Blue Shift, and Half-Life: Counter-Strike
*Phantasmagoria
*7th Guest
*Wizardry 1-7 and Gold

So you all go have fun with GTA:SA, HL2, Halo2.....while I sit here and play old games.

sperry 2004-11-12 12:10 PM

I don't see a single "old" game in your list.

Where's Quest for Glory? King's Quest? Police Quest? Space Quest?

How about Falcon 3.0? Chuck Yeager's Flight Simulator? A-10? Red Baron?

I don't see any Ultima games.

Or Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem, Doom, or Quake.

What happened to SimCity... or the lesser known SimAnt?

And of course, no Command & Conquer or WarCraft.... and those aren't even very old!

Hell, I bet not *one* of those games you listed requires you to boot to DOS. :P

ArthurS 2004-11-12 12:13 PM

Dude...not that old. Those graphics would hurt my brain as of this point....

I still play the origional Civilization though....and Blood 2....and Quake (But I have the GL version :lol: )

Nick Koan 2004-11-12 12:29 PM

Oh damn. Are we trying to out old-school each other on gaming?

:lol:

I think at some point I owned most of games you just named. I had the original Falcon for the old Atari computers before I got a PC. Falcon 3.0 was badass though.

You mean the full size arcade game that had leaky capacitors, and most were destroyed in the first 5 years?

Not...

Lets see.. Colecovision anyone? It was the first home multi game, and you had to put colored mylar on our screen because it was only B/W...

I still think the Atari 2600 Original Combat cartridge is one of the best 2 player games out there... Mono a Mono, 8 directions, and a gun.. None of this L2, Up, Up, left, left, kick, triangle BS.

If Scott's place ever gets the big screen going again, I'll bring mine over, and we can play Combat on it. 2" tall 6" pixel tanks would rule...(without missles of course)

Dean 2004-11-12 04:57 PM

Hunt the Wumpus on all your asses by the way...

Hell Yes :twisted:

khail19 2004-11-12 05:00 PM

I had a Coleco when I was a kid too. It might not have been the original version, cause we had color TV then. I remember there was the Smurfs game, I played that for days.

Don't even start talking about the Wumpus. My roommate Matt and I wrote our own version in our AI class. We defined the rules of the battlefield code and all the input and output interfaces, then we split into teams and wrote autonomous AI agents that battled each other with only a little knowledge about what the other team was doing. Hunter vs. Wumpus!! Too bad they both tended to just get lost and fall in pits and kill themselves.

Oh, and it was written in LISP with a text interface. :lol:

Sorry man, HtW should only be played on a teletype... And I hope you DID write your own missile guidance software based on that code, effectivly neutalizing your recently upgraded tank... :D

tysonK 2004-11-12 07:46 PM

Man, if I understood this thread I'd have a sweet job right now.

We ran it on a terminal emulator on a Sun Sparc Station (the slow-ass orginal ones) cluster.

I happened to find my old website from school, so I'm uploading the write up here:

http://www.seccs.org/members/sperry/...480/index.html

Here's a snippet of code, just to show you how rediculous LISP is as a language:

Code:

;;-------------------------------
;; Function KILL
;;
;; Kills the specified agent
;;
(defun kill (agent-to-kill)
    (format t "~%Trying to kill: ~A" agent-to-kill)
    (cond
        ((eq agent-to-kill explorer-agent::explorer)
            (setf *wumpus-goal-met* t)
        )
        ((eq agent-to-kill wumpus-agent::wumpus)
            (format t "~&The Wumpus has been killed!")
            (setf wumpus-agent::wumpus-is-dead t)
        )
    )
)

tysonK 2004-11-12 07:50 PM

Function KILL;

ownz j00!

Nick Koan 2004-11-12 07:55 PM

Old Games?

I thought you were going to mention Pong, Ateroids, PacMan, Galaxina and Donkey Kong!!!

Now those are old!

I saw a thing at Walmart last night that looked like a small 3" by 3" box with a joystick coming out of it. It had most of the the games I mention above and more. It has rca's that hook to your tv.

All for about $15.00!!

Unfortunately, most the reviews for those games say they're not exactly the same as the original (but they are very close) and the hardware is really flimsy. :( However for only $15 that's still pretty cool.

Then "Stuntcopter" might ring a bell.

No, wait. "Soloflight" on a Commodore 64..........

Did anybody ever play Tanarus when it was still free?
