Bwahahahaah! Good one..

I think SNSEC or SNIC are the two best.

sperry 2003-05-14 07:52 AM

I like "Sierra Nevada Subaru Enthusiasts Club" but I don't like the long SNSEC acronym... SNIC's a far better acronym, but has the dreaded I-word (dreaded to those with OBS's.... hehe). Plus SNIC will be impossible to get as a domain name.

I still think something like www.sierrasubies.org would be a good domain name...

Sounds good to me. Could throw up another poll :?:

I like the idea, the acronym is kinda long, but look at 'NASIOC' ?

sub-sierra.* are all available... but "sub" doesn't make me think of "Subaru" it makes me think of "subsidiary" "subdivision" and "subterranian" first.

Makes me think of Sub-way and sub sandwitches. Mmmm......almost lunch time.

tysonK 2003-05-15 04:17 PM

makes me think of submarines, deep underwater.

sperry 2003-05-15 09:31 PM

Looks like the most popular name is.....

<drum roll>

SECS
Subaru Enthisiasts Club of the Sierras

with the runner up being

SSIC
Sierra Subaru Impreza Club

Unfortunately SECS.org is registered by the "Society of Economics and Commerce Students".... their site is pretty comical... they're sponsored by Bundaberg Rum, REgatta Hotel, and Durex condoms. Call me a sucker, but I don't wanna steal a domain away from these fine ladies:

http://www.secs.org/images/Hot%20SECS%21.jpg

So the hunt is on for a domain name....!

sperry 2003-05-15 09:33 PM

Oh, and feel free to hate me, but I just had yet another idea:

Tripple S... Sierra Subaru Society.

it has alitteration!

sperry 2003-05-15 09:43 PM

okay here's the 1st batch of available names:

secsierra.org is available.
sec-sierra.org is available.
sierrasubies.org is available.
sierra-subies.org is available.
sierrasuby.org is available.
sierra-suby.org is available.
subesierra.org is available.
sube-sierra.org is available.
soob-sierra.org is available.
sierrasubarus.org is available.

sperry 2003-05-15 09:47 PM

Damn, I'm talking to myself post whore style....

a minor variation of SECS:

SECCS: Subaru Enthusiasts Car Club of the Sierras.

SECCS.org is available

The "CC" should clue many people into this being a car club since it's similar to "SCCA".

MattR 2003-05-15 09:51 PM

Thats cool, I like it...

secsierra.org

JC 2003-05-15 10:20 PM

I say we steal their domain name, who knows what's they'll do to get it back. (secsierra.org gets my vote too)

Truely thinking like a man with SECS on the brain!

tysonK 2003-05-16 06:20 PM

Hey Hey;

I got my degree in Economics from UNR. Remember people only permanant tax cuts actually help the economy, and studies have shown that in jobs exceeding 30k there is no significant salary gap between men and women in the same job, when all variables are ascessed. Don't let anyone tell yah different!

I like: sierra-subies.org is available.

and
seccs.org

sp00ln 2003-05-20 07:40 AM

I say you guys go with the awesome possums

sperry 2003-05-20 09:47 AM

Alrighty... here's what I'm feelin:

Subaru Enthusiasts Car Club of the Sierras
www.seccs.org

Some potential logos:
http://doink.net/gallery/Reno%20Meet...eccs-logos.jpg

All the logos I've screwed around making are here: http://doink.net/gallery/index.php?g...s/Club%20Logos
If you've got a problem or a suggestion, lemme hear 'em ASAP before I go and register the domain!!

dayofpain 2003-05-20 09:50 AM

im my opinion the way this site is spreading, i think it would behove us to make it for import enthusiats. but thats just what im seeing. noone will want a subaru import sticker on their dsm. just a thought.

I would agree, but SECCS sound cool and would be a cool sticker.

I am fresh out of ideas, so I am still partial to this one.

If you guys want for all imports, I have a domain. www.allaboutspeed.net. Me and the owner of the site were going to make something out of it.. now we just use it for file holding! Hehe. He is a WRX guy (his rexer goes a 12.6 i think with an VF30)

Sperry - If you want to work with me on this, we can. What do you think?

I was thinking about that, but if we limit it to Imports, we're still alienating domestic owners...

I figure, there's tons of import car clubs already, and honestly, I'm more interested specifically in Subarus. I don't expect (or necessarily want) this site to get huge. I'd much rather have a smaller, closer knit, die-hard group of local Subaru fans than a ton of people that are all into their own thing.

Of course, I'm all for non-Subaru people joining the board. I'm really excited to have people with other cars (esp. cars like Shawn's soon-to-be-turbo Prelude, and sp00lin's DSM) on the board, but I don't expect non-Subaru owners to join the site en-mass, or want a Subaru sticker on their ride. I'm more interested in this being primarily a Subaru hangout, with hopefully enough non-subaru members to keep us from becoming the elitest WRX dickholes that a lot of other people think WRX owners are.

Once we go down the "don't alienate non-Subaru imports" path, then we have to consider whether or not "imports only" is also too limiting. To be honest, I'm a big Subaru fan, but I like lots of other cars more than I like the cars most people lable as "performance imports". I'm more of a fan of quirky, or rare, or underated cars than I am a fan of any particular segment. That's why I like Subarus, and turbo AWD DSMs, and older cars like the Conquest TSi. Or my '95 T-Bird... (I'd love to smoke a Mustang Cobra with a tricked out T-Bird... total sleeper!) I think "import" generally means "FWD n/a 4-banger"... and I'm not all that interested in that scene... it's too "been there done that" by the Civic crowd. It's the forced induction, and AWD that makes things interesting, and quirky!

Basically what I'm saying is, if we're going to limit the site to anything, let's limit it to Subarus, not because I'm only into Subarus, but because including all my intrests will allow the site to get too big. My worst nightmare for this site would be for it to become impersonal. There's already plenty of sites like that <cough>NASIOC<cough>I-Club<cough>ClubSI<cough>StangNet<cough>. I'd like to consider this to be an online hangout for people that know each other primarily from real life who all share an interest in Subaru's (owners or not).

Thanks for the offer! Definately something to keep in mind, but as I mentioned in the post above, I'm leaning towards a Subaru specific tilt.

then set a limiting factor, location. everyone does there best to get to the meets, so we can stay personal. we have our limits there. why not just form a better reno group of car enthusiats.

tysonK 2003-05-20 04:36 PM

so you want the same location every thurs?
that sounds reasonable, but I do like dining out with you guys/gals(hopefully more) so we can talk, then jet to get something to eat.

I like the Circuit City Parking Lot, kinda biggish and it's right off virgnia but not fully viewable by your average patrol car.

tyson *on a roman holiday*

ArthurS 2003-05-20 04:40 PM

I also like the idea of the circuit city or good guys parking lot. Plenty of lights and close places to eat.

MattR 2003-05-20 05:06 PM

Ditto, Ditto and Ditto....

Set meet place is good,

Circuit is good

Subaru based club is what I'd prefer, like Scott said though, everyone is welcome.

Yes, yes, and yes. We could always have two clubs. SECCS and one on sp00lin's site and just share a message board and meets.

JC

MattR 2003-05-20 08:05 PM

I think Seccs is perfect, and I like the logo's. Is there any way to tack on the subaru stars? just a thought...I like the third logo down the best.

sp00ln 2003-05-20 08:10 PM

I've thought of making a nation wide car club - "F.I. - Forced Induction" Maybe we can just start out in reno or whatever, but then get bigger. We can host vids of the track (1/4 and auto-x) or if you guys are brave enough - a rally vid :) I dunno.. im just kinda throwing things up in the air. What ya'll think?

tysonK 2003-05-28 08:54 PM

Hey are we gonna get a new website or something?
I want a place to upload pic's to, Where it doesn't take so long to do like the attachment way. Maybe give some of the trusted members the ability to ftp directly to the site, is that faster I don't know?

ArthurS 2003-05-28 10:23 PM

Yea. Lets get rolling. Have we picked a good sticker design? So I can get in touch with the sticker lady and see what deal I can get. Then we can call Kinko's and see what they can do also (price comparison).

I still haven't uploaded the pics from last meet. Damn I am lazy. Ill just upload them with tomorrow's pics.

sperry 2003-05-29 07:56 AM

I registered seccs.org... now I just need to find time to setup a new site, and move the forums over. My biggest concern is the status of my current site host, since the rumor is that they're going out of business :( I need to get in touch with someone over there, and find out what the deal is. If things are still cool, I'll get them to set up a second page in my account.

Unfortunately, it will be difficult to set up a real ftp, since I only have one account. I do have plans for user pages however, which should allow you guys to upload a .zip file that will be uncompressed into your user directory, so you should be able to use it for uploading pics and html, etc.

More details as I figure things out.

Oh, I'll try to come up with a few logos, some for web and business cards, and some simpler ones for vinyl stickers.
