How many events do you have to attend before you can get out of the exercises on the first day?

Recently, we are getting many more "intermediate" drivers, and thus the weird D&E groups at the last event. It was so long ago, I think I did 2-3 events, but I had no track or autocross experience before that. You are probably good for the C group at the next event. If it is a new track to you though, just make sure your instructor knows that. |
Sweet...I think I'm in for Pahrump, and I'm planning on RFR for sure...Can't wait.
|
If it is any indication, I was the slowest person in the group at thunderhill in the wet, but I spent the dry sessions stuck behind people - until I cooked my brakes 8)
I will probably go to pahrump if I can get out of the excercises, but I can't spare 2 weekdays for buttonwillow :( |

How long a drive was Buttonwillow? 395 most of the way? Note on brakes. Flush before you go, and be prepared to do bleed/flush at the end of the first day before you leave the track. You won't have time the morning of the second day. You may not need to, but it is better than missing track time. Getting comfortable going fast in the wet is very difficult, even on good wet tires. Smooth/slow hands, and feet become paramount, and things you got away with in the dry don't play no more.. 8) |

You can also take 395 to 58, cut across Tehachapi through Bakersfield, but that way takes way longer...I'd stick to the 80 + 5 route. Buttonwillow is West of Bakersfield,Ca on I-5. |

I always take 80 to 5 directly, avoiding Business 80...personal preference.
|
Wouldn't the TNL school we took qualify us for Group C with Audi Club Dean? Personally, I won;t be doing AC events til the Fernley one, so by then I *should* have even more track time, but I would think that track experience + good instruction should do it right?

It depends on the individual, but a couple of track days would probably be a minimum with autocross thrown in as a bonus. Mike with his TNL, and now some Audi stuff is probably good. Someone who has autocrossed but never been on a track, and/or only done the one day of TNL probably is not ready for the speeds in the Audi group C. They may be by day 2, and can get bumped if needed, but that seldom happens as much of group A & B are going "fast" by day 2. Learning to look for flagers, and managing your vision, and body parts at speed on a track takes practice, and the last thing you want is to be learning while being constantly overtaken. |

I doubt I'll be able to run in the March or April events, since the car should be getting its tranny installed about then, but I'm in for RFR for sure! |

WTF n00bs
I can sign up for the Pahrump (Event info coming soon)? but I dont even see LS on the calander? it also says that if you dont sign up a month in advance that there will be an additional $25 for late regisration. SO GET IT RIGHT or I should say: you must not be going because you would have hit the wall  |

I will be there. I'm trying to convince Scott, Mr. "I want to run Laguna" to go. |
Thanks Matt... I would love to go to this one.. Not to drive ofcourse this is by far a track for the novice.. even though I am a pretty good driver huh Mike H.

It's not a matter of wanting to go, it's a matter of affording it. Hell, as it is I'm buying a transmission I can't actually afford. Plus tires, fuel, hotel, etc. It's not looking very likely. |

To reinforce what Matt said about instructors... The Audi club typically has 20-50 rank novices who have never done anything but drive their car at normal speeds on the street at every event at every venue. We are heavily geared around meeting the needs of these drivers! Making their experience SAFE, enjoyable, and a learning experience are paramount so they will want to come back. There is also an instructor in your passenger seat every second you are on the track, and prior to you driving the track you have exercises to get you in the right mode, and orientation laps with your instructor driving your car at 50% with you in the passenger seat. There is also time during instructor run groups for you to ride with them in their cars. The Audi club puts on these events at pretty much every track on the east and west coast a number of time a year. There is no bad track to learn on, despite what Kevin thinks, as long as you are willing to learn, and leave your ego at home. I highly reccomend any of these events to pretty much everyone, including you Sergio! :) |

Dean... One of these days I will have to gladly take you up on the offer... Since I promised to Auto-X and never did.. (Just not my thing.. but I do like to watch.. lol ) |
|
I'm starting to think I want to be an intermediate before doing this track
I might not make this one after all $425  |

Dean did I read day 1 correctly. Novice group only has exercises in the morning and no track time at all on the first day? What do the novice groups do in the afternoon?

I think I'll pass on a $1000++ weekend that will probably be in the rain. :( |

Putting on a 2 day event with banquet, track food, and safety equipment is a bit more expensive than a RFR TNL day. No excuse, it is what it is. Sorry if I missled you. |
Quote:
No big deal, since I can't afford to go even if it was $325. |

I just can't afford the entry fee, tires, fuel, food, hotel, and time off work. |

|
Yes it is expensive................but our one day track event at RFR was $200. This is two days, with dinners included and that track for $25 more. I still may go as long as I can see what the first day afternoon will be comprised of.
