The new guy

Im the new guy. Expect to have another SVX around cause thats what I roll :D

Its a 92 claret that has modifications on the way. As far as aesthetic mods go: 97 grill, euro front bumper, jdm clear corners, jdm wing, alcyone hood badge(since I wanted an easy 10 horse), and a jdm back panel. Oh and some nice and ricey white tenzo mean 6's.

But as of now its just a claret with a misaligned door

Nick Koan 2005-03-03 09:08 AM

Nice. We got at least two other SVX drivers on the board.

Good work on the exterior, btw.

MattR 2005-03-03 09:14 AM

Nice, I gotta see this thing...Welcome. Come out to a meet so we can check out your car.

BTW, any SVX owners, Eric (qksubi) really wants to sell his stock evo rims and they look really cool on an SVX...

sti deede 2005-03-03 09:16 AM

Welcome Ducky :D
You should come out to our meet tonight.

I'll buy 'em, but "retarded cheap, with tires" is a phrase I'm gonna have to hear.

Duckie 2005-03-03 09:55 PM

Couldnt make it out tonight, had to play "drive my girlfriend everywhere because she is too damn lazy" tonight. Speaking of which im bored. What do you all do for fun?

Duckie 2005-03-03 10:14 PM

Oh...which reminds me. I need to find an exaust shop in town who will make a y pipe to my highflow cat, bend up some 2.5 pipe, put my new muffler on, a few mendrel bends, and put my tips on. Oh yeah and put on my new brakes and lines. All for 300 or less...anyone know somewhere?

And btw what color should i pain my calipers...if my car is gonna be white, and I have white wheels. Im undecided

Weasel 22 2005-03-03 10:43 PM

hey! good to see you make it to the boards..im the same Weasel from SVX.net who told you aboot this..get yer arse to the next meet..I need SVX friends  then we have something to talk aboot..and welcome!

If you've already got a cat and muffler handy, I believe Nate at Subaru Specialists in Sacramento can get the job done for about that. Sybir on this board works there, I'll get his attention to this thread.

Duckie 2005-03-04 08:25 AM

I do indeed have them handy, along with a resonator which i neglected to mention heh. Unfortunantly my baby is sick. The claret is in the shop today (praying its just a bad alt) so we will see. As far as the exaust work goes, I still need to get my new rotors and line. But if i could get just the exaust work done id be happy o_O Screw the brakes for now. Anyway, id be willing to pay 250 for just the exaust work. =)

Oh and weasel thanks for telling me about the place =) And I have a tad bit of canadian in me too...seeing as my family founded Nova Scotia along with the murphys and Baileys =) (Cameron used to be the last name in my family)

*looks around at all the canadians* When did we invade Reno? Didn't know so many of us lived here let alone in such a specific community.

I'm not a Canuckistani, but my Grandparents are... :D , so I guess I'm close enough.

Sperry too!

Welcome Duckie.

For a local option, I've taken my last 2 cars to Sid's Alignment & Brake on 4th St., for exhaust work. He doesn't have a mandrel bender though (no one in town has one for exhaust pipes afaik).

sperry 2005-03-04 09:41 AM

An alternative to mandrel bending is to simply pick up the needed bends from Summit (I believe they sell exhaust pipe there)... then whatever shop you bring it to can just cut the straight pipes to lenght and use the pre-fab bends. It's not as pretty as a single mandrel pipe, but it's a lot cheaper and easier than hunting for a shop with a mandrel machine.

Also, I'm another Canukian by heritage (my Mom's a full-blooded Frenchy)... *and* I drive an SVX (well, as soon as it's out of the bodyshop).

Yeah, that's the best way to go, probably buy some parts and take it to Sid's or McVay Muffler in Sparks. Summit has all kinds of good mandrel bent pipe choices.

sybir 2005-03-04 10:59 AM

I'd recommend trying to find an exhaust shop in Reno, as well. We don't have a power mandrel bender, and realistically, the time alone in what you're looking to do would probalby outstrip your target budget; we can do custom exhaust stuff, but it's an intensive process doing cut mandrels, so it takes time. To give you an idea, we're doing a header-back on my wagon tomorrow, and it'll prolly take a good 4+ hours, plus parts.

Let us know if you need someone to do the brakes, we do a lot of SVX work. We would of course be happy to do your exhaust, I just don't think we can do it for $250. If you'd like, you can give the shop a call and we can see if we can work something out for you.

Summit does sell bends; stainless will run you about $50 for a 2.5" U bend, or you can get aluminized mild steel for like $20. Note that when I was up last weekend, they were out of stainless.......

Duckie 2005-03-04 02:50 PM

Actually landa mufflers does indeed have mandrel machine, however they wanted to charge me 450+ for the job

Well, then I guess my next question is how good are everyones pipe bending skills? Cause if I can find someone who does VERY good work and wouldnt restrict my airflow then normal pipe bends would be fine with me. So I suppose I will increase my budget to 300 for some good work.

On another note, anyone wanna help me install a ECU racing chip on sunday or next weekend? Just need someone who has a soket wrench set...and 1-2 hours of free time. Oh and preferably they should do yoga...

MattR 2005-03-04 02:54 PM

Chip? What kind? I wasn't aware of any chip for Subarus

Um.. what's an "ECU racing chip" for the SVX? I hope you're talking about a Stage 1 ECUTune chip, because I haven't heard of any other that are worth a damn.

Duckie 2005-03-04 03:44 PM

You would be correct sir =). And there is actually one more chip thats worth a damn, but its still not as good.

So yeah its the stage one chip from ecutune

Sweet! I was thinking about one of those, but having never seen an SVX with one, I was hesitant.

What I really like about the Stage 1 is that there's an 87 octane map... after paying $2.45/gal yesterday, I wouldn't mind saving on gas a little.

Seriously.. I've got my car running great now on 87 with no pinging. Cheaper gas rocks.

I may be the 1st one here to try that chip..seeing how I have the 'operational' SVX currently  by April Ill be ready to do some 'things' to the ol' SVX ..currently I have the JDM emblems coming along with the anniversary side emblems...after the paint job, all will be installed tho I may do the dash kit this weekend along with the pedals depending on my mood and the weather....I will also have new wheels tho I like the stockers..either the Shoguns I have bidded on or the Enkei's off the EVO..the stockers will be winter beaters..
let the SVX tuning wars begin..Canucks unite! who needs our damn extinct pro hockey?

next weekend works for me if you would like a hand..then Ill know how to do mine properly  we can discuss thursday if it works for you

Duckie 2005-03-05 01:35 AM

Sounds like a plan. Turns out it was indeed the alternator. And as ar as the instal of the ECU chip...the hard part is getting the damn ecu unit out >_<

Duckie 2005-03-06 03:10 PM

ok i need to buy some 225-45-17's for my new rims...any suggestions?

MattR 2005-03-06 03:36 PM

Falken Azentis ST-115, best street tire around.

BOO 2005-03-06 03:37 PM

I would say talk to the Tire specialist (khail).. in terms of price that is ;)

in terms of brand tread pattern rating specs.. pretty much everyone is a bit knowledgable :)

Good Luck :)

Duckie 2005-03-07 09:39 PM

Yay my first mod to the SVX is done =). Well second if you count removing my hood badge 8) . Anyway my lightweight underdrive pulley plus new belts are working great =). Soon the chip will be in, then comes the exaust and brakes.

Kevin M 2005-03-07 09:40 PM

Well that answers the question I just asked in the other thread. I'll check to see which Street touring and Street Prepared classes you're car is in. those are the next step up from stock.

nice..looking forward to checking it out...my Alcyone badge and anniversary side emblems have yet to arrive..possibly due to my missing in the mail payment sent out last sat to Az..has yet to arrive there..must be on a pony express rider..I hear they sometimes still use those guys..however my cf dash kit is installed along with my razo pedals..I was motivated this weekend..and the Enkei Shoguns are mine in a few hours..pending last min bidders..ramble ramble..back to GT4

Duckie 2005-03-07 11:25 PM

I have my hood emblem too (have had for like 4 months) They look awesome. Im not much for the side markers. Im very interested to see your pedals...the stock ones suck.

Duckie 2005-03-08 03:58 PM

Wow, I cant believe I feel a difference from the small amount of new horse I have. Probably just in my head. However, I do hear the difference in high second gear+

we should let the semi-accurate G-Tech tell the truth
seat of pants ..you want it to be faster..thus you drive harder than normal
but good to hear you like it..bring that baby thursday

and oh they found my mail..jdm badge and emblems on the way..the monkeys off my back on that one

Duckie 2005-03-08 10:35 PM

Who would like to check with a gtech for me *grin* And yeah ill be there thursday unless something crazy happens. Dont expect it to look pretty btw, that has yet to come

Unless you're willing to take off and reinstall the chip, so you can G-Tech before and after, you're not going to get any good data... and I thought the ECUTune install's a bitch?

Duckie 2005-03-09 11:26 AM

Well my chip isnt on yet =). Secondly I know what my machine was doing prior to the install of my pulley.

As far as the instal being a pain...putting the actuall chip in is super easy. Maybe 10 minutes of the 2 hour job. The hard part is getting the ECU out which requires yoga like skills and patience...I have neither. But with people taking turns it shouldnt be *as* bad. Anyway you all will see my claret tommor night. As soon as I get my euro front bumper(3+ months in the making now) my baby is going to get painted. And my god...i really should paint my calipers. They will look horrible with the new wheels if i dont....maybe i will wait tell my brakes come in.

Ahh... I thought the chip went in recently...

I doubt the difference in the pulley will be repeatable on a G-Tech. The gains are probably right around the same as the G-Tech's margin of error.

Duckie 2005-03-09 01:51 PM

indeed. heh 4-7 horse. But i do know that my engine sounds meaner o_O

The chip is going in hopefully this sunday with the help of mr weasel.

Weasel 22 2005-03-09 03:38 PM

I was more on the lines of comparing my SVX to his..however depending on the running condition of either ..could vary the results to some extent..but we can still test it now and compare it to the eventual chip install

Duckie 2005-03-09 04:56 PM

Ooo good point. I didnt even think about that. Looking forword to tommorow =).

Weasel 22 2005-03-11 10:50 AM

update on the chip..I wasnt aware that you cant take advantage of the higher redline with the auto..this enhancement will benefit SVXi with the manual conversion only..the automatic shift points arent changed, therefore you can only hit the new redline in park or neutral..the fuel and ignition tweeks are the enhancements to be had with the auto..just FYI..I'll still consider the chip later...

Duckie 2005-03-11 01:32 PM

Yup that is true, although I have heard of people modding the forced shifts so that they are the new redline. However, I am not so sure we would even get anything out of the new redlines with our auto's unless we ran nos.
