Reno SCCA Track Driving July 23-24

Reno SCCA will be conducting a performance driving experience on Saturday July 23 and Sunday July 24. Basically, a chance to get some track time at Reno Fernley Raceway, with some instruction and likely a lot of track time. I have signed up to run sunday only, and you can run wither one or two days.

Along with the driving school, there will be a time trial race run along side, so that will be cool to watch.

I'm not 100% sure on the format, but in talking to some of the planners this weekend, I was assured that it will be an enjoyable time at RFR.

Here is the entry link Renoo SCCA @ RFR

And you can sign up and pay at www.myautoevents.com

Pat R. 2005-07-17 09:51 PM

I was talking with Dave tonight and he told me that they have reversed their earlier decision to exclude convertables without SCCA-approved roll hoops. I will be there for one or both days, I haven't decided yet.

sperry 2005-07-17 10:41 PM

Since it's very unlikely that I'll have a car by then, I won't be driving. However, I'm planing on being out there both days to help out and run the timing system.

Libila 2005-07-18 01:41 PM

I'm planning on going, I'm just not sure which day.

I'll be the one with an arm out of the window signaling people to pass the entire time.

MikeK 2005-07-18 02:11 PM

I signed up for sunday. It looks like there is hardly anyone signed up on the entry list, hopefull we will have the track all to ourselves!

Excellent Mike, I can 't wait man.

Hopefully Nick Sonder sees this...come on out man. I wish Eric could attend, but he is out of commission for a long time, I'll let him explain. Should be a ton of track time

Looks like the deadline for registration is Tuesday (tomorrow) and a $25 late fee will be added after that. So sign up now guys.

Mike just PM'd me on this. It is a possibility, I will check with the wife tonight. My only chance would be if I don't go to Thunderhill next Friday. It may be a stretch for me as my weekends have been a little crazy lately and I went to the Mt. Hamilton thing this last weekend. It was fun, but the drive was painful. My outside temp guage read 116F through Roseville! Either way, Chelle is pushing for some significant family time boating on the weekends. I'll give it a shot though.

MikeK 2005-07-18 03:10 PM

Tyson?

Libila 2005-07-18 03:31 PM

Count me in for Sunday only.

MattR 2005-07-18 03:33 PM

Yeah, I had to back out of Thunderhill on the 29th...just can't make a friday work right now.

Pat R. 2005-07-18 06:03 PM

I'll be there Sunday at least. I'm thinking about picking up a used Kart so I may go to the races at DRP on Saturday to check out the scene.

sperry 2005-07-18 08:45 PM

That sucks Tyson! :(

I would be doing the same thing, dropping T-Hill and going to RFR instead, but as far as I know, S-Squared hasn't even *started* on my car yet, so I'm actually begining to wonder if I'll make the 29th at this point. I was really hoping to have the car back this week so I could break in the motor, and now it's looking like I'm gonna be lucky to have a non-broken in motor done in time. :(

I want to go but my left knee is holding me back a little it has a ton of fluid in it and my srews in the top part of my tibia platou are exposed which means pain a lot of pain  Zack shot a pic of it after I took a digger at the skate park here it is :P

LetItRev 2005-07-19 06:23 AM

Holy Grapefruit size knee Batman!

That looks painful indeed.

Pat R. 2005-07-19 07:34 AM

I'm no doctor but I prescribe lots of beer for that knee.

MikeSTI 2005-07-19 07:58 AM

ohh my that does not look good Eric

I hope it gets better soon.............

doubleurx 2005-07-19 08:01 AM

Man Eric...what happened? Or is that corrective surgery you've been planning?

I agree...............Beer!

Track day does not look likely for me either.

qksubi 2005-07-19 09:20 AM

That's a good example why A 35yr old boy shouldnt still ride a skateboard you really get hurt. Zack and I had a early morning session because of the heat when I got home I was packing the Sti for Autox and Zack was alliing over my spare that I had taking out of the trunk it look easy enough so I tried it. I landed it few times and then wham I really do not know what happenned next thing I know my knee is the size of grapefruit and Im in a shit load of pain! So i get in see my Orthapedic(sp) yesterday He says you have a serious problem your knee has been grinding against bone exposing the scews you have in your tibia platue you need a knee replacment so he recomended me to a Dr. in sac to scope the knee to see what is what I will keep you guys in the loop and teel you whats going on.The only thing good aboout this is the parking I will get out of this

MikeK 2005-07-19 09:58 AM

Somehow I don't think a handicapped parking tag makes up for the damage! I guess that means you are definately going to have surgury?

Didn't your doctor (and all of us) warn you about riding so much?! :(

Sounds like you're gonna need one of these:

Just make sure yours goes "Baaa-na-na-na-na-na-na-na" whenever you jump!

HAHAHA!

doubleurx 2005-07-19 07:38 PM

I still have a chance that I might show for this. I just e-mailed Doug Driver to see if he can waive the late fee. He worked for a past client of mine in Incline. Unfortunately money is very tight for me right know due to a bunch of rat - bastard developers! wait did I just say that out loud?

doubleurx 2005-07-20 10:20 AM

I spoke to Doug today via e-mail. Apparantly not many people are using the website to pay and are not on the list. Nonetheless there are still only 20 people signed up for the untimed event on Sunday......................including me!

Ha ha ha. What is it that you know Mike?

This should be a blast. The e-mail confirmation I got from Doug only had 35 people on it and that includes the time trial folk.

MattR 2005-07-21 05:01 PM

Sweet. Looks like it should be a great event. Sounds like they're changing the schedule a little bit too...Should be okay though.

I'm sure it will be a blast. Way less drivers than any other event we have attended which either means more track time or much less drivers on course. Either way, it looks like the plan for another day of subarus blasting through the miriad of butterflys.

Kevin M 2005-07-22 01:21 AM

Man I wish I could go. But I already put off visiting my family too many times, and last weekend I learned that getting up at 6 AM and then working from 5 PM to 2 AM is not such a splendid idea. :(

Pat R. 2005-07-23 08:57 PM

Car on trailer, alarm set.

That was a great last session today. Made up for my very rough, bumpy and dusty start!

Good times once again.

sperry 2005-07-24 08:46 PM

Anyone take any pictures? I was too busy w/ Timing & Scoring, I didn't even bring out a camera.

MattR 2005-07-24 09:46 PM

I didn't take any pictures, but I have in car as always...

Nick, I was glad you made it out....And Mike, Sorry about the damage to your car, I feel terrible still...Overall, we ran really well today, great job as always guys.

I was glad also. Definately put me in caution mode for the remainder of the day. I was behind Mike and got one of those rocks on my windshield also. Fortunately I only got a minor chip. About the only run I finally felt OK about was the last session.

MikeK 2005-07-25 08:31 AM

Thanks to Pat for telling me that restaurant was on the corner of Prater and McCarren  :P

And thanks to the retard who rolled his truck on I80 so that it took nearly 2 hours to get home

Nick Koan 2005-07-25 08:46 AM

And I was so disappointed. I was hoping you'd be culturally offended by 'australlian' food with so much cheese and mayo.

How's your hood Mike?

I heard "Sparks Blvd. right in front of the water park", so I got there okay. Prater and McCarran might have been a different restaurant that we talked about earlier. Either way, I sorry you missed it! 'Course the traffic took so long that Matt had to skip out.

Speaking of that traffic... what a mess. Rolled pickup, boat trailer in the road... but I didn't see a boat. A rig hauling two other boats getting towed away by an even bigger rig. I can't imagine what went down to cause all that. All I know is that I sat in traffic for 90 minutes longer than I should have.

And Mike... you need to join the 1990's and get a cell phone so you don't miss dinner in the future. :P

I am not sure if I am ready for the 90s. I only just got rid of my dial telephone at home.

doubleurx 2005-07-25 10:49 AM

I wanted to warn you guys about that mess, but my cell phone didn't work where I was stuck!

Pat R. 2005-07-25 11:10 AM

One of the other restaurants we were talking about is on Prater & McCarran. Sorry for the confusion.
